  • Today I review the Balvenie 18 PX cask. I generally like Balvenies but I do find them overpriced for what they are. Let's see if this Balvenie can sway me and you into shelling out a lot of money for it. Enjoy!

This one isn’t a Nalgene I super enjoyed but I really appreciate your review. I think my jam at this point is bourbon cask peat monster expressions!! Cheers!!🍻

Only if you find it at a bar or a cheap sample. It's not worth the price Gert. Thanks for watching!

I recently opened an old Billy Walker era Benriach 17 PX finish and let me tell you, it is very good. Guess what it says on the box? That's right: Non Chill Filtered and Natural Colour. I'm just putting that out there before I gripe about everything Balvenie.
I used to enjoy Balvenie but for some reason they went through a phase where they bottled all their good old stock for expensive, short term profit, expressions. After that the core range went very noticeably downhill and ever more expensive. I don't know why I'm repeating it because we all know the story. They are of course owned by William Grant & Sons who also own Glenfiddich. Both distilleries make superb spirit but aren't very adventurous. In fact we could describe the outlook as reactionary and old fashioned but not in a good way.
Back to this bottle, which is on sale in the U.K for an eye-watering £215. Love your review of this and your description is what I would expect of this dram. I would only consider it if it was half the price. It's 18 year old Balvenie but aged in mediocre casks without much PX influence I suspect. My Benriach PX finish has a bucket load of sherry but really well blended with the ex-bourbon. Hay-Ho, that's the whisky world these days. Glad you reviewed all the same. WT

Thank you for your comments, insight and added value to my channel, I always appreciate it when it's coming from you!
Yeah we all know the story and sure it's a sad one but there are so many new distilleries coming up, I think we might be just fine. Whereas for these old guard, I don't know. Maybe they'll move away from us even further go for the collectors lounge or maybe just maybe they decide to change. We'll see.
Thank you for watching. I enjoyed this whisky but only when I paid a fraction of the price as it was a group buy. Never would I pay full price for what you aptly described. Cheers my friend!

I’m a sucker for PX… but this doesn’t sound good value.
    Cheers 🥃
