It's been a long time since I beat you. Got all 5 cities right with perfect scores for the first 3. 24,972 in total. Freetown was quite a lucky shot obviously.
I got a perfect score on the Israel one😎, found Hebrew letters on signs, looked for the roundabout and street orientation, and the park across the street confirmed my findings. And I also got very close on the Freetown one, down to 500m, basically using the same method Tom used, looked for similar coastline on west coast African Capital cities. And a total score of 22595. I only messed up the Ukraine one for Russia. I can proudly announce I've beaten the GeoWizzard for once!!!😎 The capital city format helped a lot, really narrowed down the areas that needed to be searched.
Nice you got that one, I had exactly the same idea but got overly excited when I saw a fitting roundabout but right beneath the correct one is another one in a similar grid leading to 4999 points, fuck me
Fun fact: Lauriergracht (the street on the Amsterdam location) was a location used in the Only Fools and Horses episode 'To Hull and Back'. (Van Kleefe's office)
WOOOO 21,509!!! That was such a fun map, some hard and interesting, but not impossible locations. The fact it's only capitals makes the search smaller and overall more enjoyable for people like me who don't want to spend half an hour looking for a 90 degree street.
I love that in a video about guessing between 198 capital cities, Tom picked 2 out of 5 cities that weren't even capitals at all. Jokes aside, this is a great map. Definitely would love to see more of it!
In the Jerusalem round, I first made a picture in my head of the street angles, park and roundabout. Then, I zoomed into the map and saw it straight away, probably luck. Nevertheless, I lost the perfect score in my own capital of Amsterdam... Hint: the capital is shown with a dot within a circle on Maps when zoomed out a bit.
The capital of Israel is Jerusalem, Tel Aviv is just a major city and out technology hub city. A tip for you about Jerusalem, if you will look closely on the walls of most buildings in Jerusalem you'll see this sort of stones on the wall that is all over the city. In Israel it's even called Jerusalem Stone, for me its an automatic giveaway. P.S it is forbidden to build a house in Jerusalem without covering the out part of it with this particular atone
I got a 5000 pointer (13m) ahead of watching the video on the Amsterdam round. Perhaps not too impressive but made my day, one of my best, luckiest guesses ever!
On the Amsterdam round I literally just clicked a random street within the first minute of the round and somehow got a perfect score. That's never happening to me again.
Meanwhile, Jerusalem was the only one I got 5000 on :D looked for streets that had the same direction, and the first one I zoomed in on had the park and side-road. Pure luck
Distinguishing Tel Aviv from Jerusalem - you see that building that looks like it's made from white stone? That is very what we call "yerushalmi" in Hebrew. Very Jerusalem.
tom, for in the future, this is a capital only mode, all capitals are marked with a black circle on the map where as all non capitals have a white circle, cheers mate great vid
Jerusalem has very distinct white stone buildings. They were pretty obvious in the video. Then, the buildings on a hill in the distance were likely the city center. I didn’t look hard at the compass or play along but while watching I had a gut feeling it was the southern part of Jerusalem. It helps to have been there obviously.
If Tom reads this: When you are looking for a capital city on the map the marker is actually different if you hover at the right distance. Around 22:03 when you are zooming into Israel you can tell that Jerusalem is the capital and not Tel-Aviv as Jerusalem's marker has a black dot in the middle that Tel-Aviv's marker doesn't have. But as soon as you zoom in too far those city markers disappear. The city names are still there but without the marker and if a city is written in capital letters or not has nothing to do with it actually being the capital or not but only with it's size.
So good to hear a GeoPeter shoutout, I highly recommend checking him out if you haven’t before! Tom and Peter are my all-time favourite content creators and the only two who I subscribe to through their Patreon / YT membership. Love their stuff.

Cant believe a government agency or big tech monster hasn't reached out yet to use your skills for "security" purposes. Edit: I got Freetown and Jerusalem. But not Papa New Guinea
I went to guinea instead of sierra leone, still lost 500 points even though it's the next one. In my defense there were no hills or mountains in sierra leone in google maps so I cancelled it. ended up with 24k with a less than a mile away guess from my capital at the end.. sort of an unfair advantage
That last israeli place almost surely must have been Jerusalem beacuse of the stone all the buildings were built of. There are few laws that Israel still has ffrom british times. And one of them is a regional law prohibiting covering buildings with anything else than the local type of stone. It was created to cultivate the tradition and preserve the historical landmark of stone Jerusalem. So this is why you can almost certainly pick Jerusalem right away as you see many buildings built of this specific stone. Also Tel Aviv doesn't really have so uneven areas.
I did get the last one in Jerusalem as well as Kiev and Amsterdam. But I got it completely wrong in the stadium and made the same mistakes as you for the one in sierra leone, didn't pay enough attention to Freetown. really nice to play along you!
I felt relieved when Tom also guessed Tel Aviv in the last round, fell for it also and thought I was a dumb ass for not knowing the capital of Israel for a second. :D Ended on 24757, cause I got Freetown right (couple km away). Great map!
Jerusalem is only that stone for buildings, while tel aviv has modern looking buildings and skyscrapers that would be visible from pretty much anywhere

I can proudly announce I've beaten the GeoWizzard for once!!!😎
The capital city format helped a lot, really narrowed down the areas that needed to be searched.
Nice you got that one, I had exactly the same idea but got overly excited when I saw a fitting roundabout but right beneath the correct one is another one in a similar grid leading to 4999 points, fuck me
I got a perfect score, 3yds away, and it was just a random click in Jerusalem! 😂
I just watched the video first, so much easier. I get a perfect score every time.
Believe it or not some people actually do this for some reason.
It looks hilly of course it's Jerusalem
quick tip all buidlings in Jerusalem are covered in bricks called "Jerusalem stones"
I met you outside my house in Lichfield a few weeks back, you're a legend!
I'm amazed you found the one in Amsterdam, those canals and places all look so similar!
Excellent episode - please continue the “capital”-series
Fun fact: Lauriergracht (the street on the Amsterdam location) was a location used in the Only Fools and Horses episode 'To Hull and Back'. (Van Kleefe's office)
‘It’s Amsterdam for those of you who don’t have too many brain cells’ lmao love you Tom
The cars parked on the canal edge in Amsterdam make me so nervous to look at 😰
1:25 Tom: I'll be amazed if I can get two
3:08 Tom: The perfect score is on here
It broke my heart that Tom didn't know his Malabos
WOOOO 21,509!!! That was such a fun map, some hard and interesting, but not impossible locations. The fact it's only capitals makes the search smaller and overall more enjoyable for people like me who don't want to spend half an hour looking for a 90 degree street.
I love that in a video about guessing between 198 capital cities, Tom picked 2 out of 5 cities that weren't even capitals at all.
Jokes aside, this is a great map. Definitely would love to see more of it!
"I wonder if it was named after Joanna?"... I'm dead!🤣🤣🤣
In the Jerusalem round, I first made a picture in my head of the street angles, park and roundabout. Then, I zoomed into the map and saw it straight away, probably luck. Nevertheless, I lost the perfect score in my own capital of Amsterdam...
Hint: the capital is shown with a dot within a circle on Maps when zoomed out a bit.
but kiev doesnt look like kiev anymore o.O 11:48
That’s scuffed
As a traffic engineer, I noticed the “turn left ahead” sign in Amsterdam and could tell straight away that Tom’s initial guess was incorrect.
This was my first ever time doing a geo guesser properly, and trying to beat you, that african one was amazing to get. 417 metres, what a feeling!
Love this format - would love more of those ❤️❤️
btw the capital of equatorial guiena its located in Malabo which is an island its not Bata
Oof you posted 3 years ago
Stolen comment
interesting tip, In Ukraine the fences and small bridges are often painted in national flag colours (blue(top) and yellow(bottom)
11:00 imagine this picture today.. such sadness
Cry more. Z
Sad to see the kiev one, considering right now that exact street is just rumble now
I got a 5000 pointer (13m) ahead of watching the video on the Amsterdam round. Perhaps not too impressive but made my day, one of my best, luckiest guesses ever!
Congrats on a million!
Just a tip, in tha last round, this kind of stone that was used in the house is only used in Jerusalem :)
"It's better than being stoned... Ahh well I dont know..."
On the Amsterdam round I literally just clicked a random street within the first minute of the round and somehow got a perfect score. That's never happening to me again.
Got perfect scores on the first three and then didn't even put it in the capital for the last two, thanks for giving us a chance Tom
Meanwhile, Jerusalem was the only one I got 5000 on :D looked for streets that had the same direction, and the first one I zoomed in on had the park and side-road. Pure luck
I also got a perfect score, but I live literally five minutes from that spot, so it was kinda obvious to me 😂
I’m quite impressed that he managed to zoom straight in on Volodymyrsk church in Kiev without really trying.
Distinguishing Tel Aviv from Jerusalem - you see that building that looks like it's made from white stone? That is very what we call "yerushalmi" in Hebrew. Very Jerusalem.
Building with limestone siding is the law in Jerusalem
@@boazshaf And as such, you see it a lot in Jerusalem. :)
Get in! Looking forward to watch your next adventure - it will be awesome!
"those of you who dont have too many braincells"
Please never change, Tom!
tom, for in the future, this is a capital only mode, all capitals are marked with a black circle on the map where as all non capitals have a white circle, cheers mate great vid
Tom: "Let's see if we can find a flag!"
Also Tom: Completely ignores the blue and yellow painted fence in the exact same second
Amazing. Love this channel
Btw Bata isn't the capital of Equatorial Guinea. Capitals are marked with a dot inside the circle marking the city
If Tom reads this:
When you are looking for a capital city on the map the marker is actually different if you hover at the right distance.
Love how unique and therefore recognisable Amsterdam is
I thought it was Italy at first lol. Haven't really seem a whole lot of pictures from there but does sound like fun from all the stories you hear lol
Tom: "If you don't immediately recognize Amsterdam, you're literally too stupid to insult."
Also Tom: "dO ThEy HaVE BiG ShIpS ON AnY LaKeS???"
To be fair, they often do
salty baby online
"It's Amsterdam, for those of you who don't have brain cells" that felt like a personal attack ahahha
So good to hear a GeoPeter shoutout, I highly recommend checking him out if you haven’t before! Tom and Peter are my all-time favourite content creators and the only two who I subscribe to through their Patreon / YT membership. Love their stuff.
Love these videos having never played geoguessr, but just loving geography. Once I saw your method of finding things when you never looked at it in person is crazy. Cant believe a government agency or big tech monster hasn't reached out yet to use your skills for "security" purposes.
Edit: I got Freetown and Jerusalem. But not Papa New Guinea
Well I’m pretty proud with myself to have gotten 4 perfect scores! Just missed the Sierra Leone round. Ended up going for Libreville...
@Érik haha t’as raison, j’avais pas fait la connexion
20:57 even if it ended up being Equatorial Guinea, its capital is on the northwestern island (Bioko) near Cameroon. The capital is Malabo
I went to guinea instead of sierra leone, still lost 500 points even though it's the next one. In my defense there were no hills or mountains in sierra leone in google maps so I cancelled it. ended up with 24k with a less than a mile away guess from my capital at the end.. sort of an unfair advantage
haha ya gever. wanted to see if anyone got it
@@danielmizrahi9629 I did! I live super close to the location lol. I was in absolute SHOCK when it popped up on my screen 😂
@@jonahs92 haha same😂

been watching tom for to many years, still love ya
That last israeli place almost surely must have been Jerusalem beacuse of the stone all the buildings were built of. There are few laws that Israel still has ffrom british times. And one of them is a regional law prohibiting covering buildings with anything else than the local type of stone. It was created to cultivate the tradition and preserve the historical landmark of stone Jerusalem.
So this is why you can almost certainly pick Jerusalem right away as you see many buildings built of this specific stone.
Also Tel Aviv doesn't really have so uneven areas.
Great map, great video! I love how many formats you have, and this will be among my most liked for sure.
Pretty sure kyiv doesn't look like that anymore 😬
I did get the last one in Jerusalem as well as Kiev and Amsterdam. But I got it completely wrong in the stadium and made the same mistakes as you for the one in sierra leone, didn't pay enough attention to Freetown. really nice to play along you!
I felt relieved when Tom also guessed Tel Aviv in the last round, fell for it also and thought I was a dumb ass for not knowing the capital of Israel for a second. :D
Ended on 24757, cause I got Freetown right (couple km away). Great map!
First time I beat you, gotta love these play alongs!
Got all five :D
Tom:" couldn't be easier"
Me:" yup thats londo..."
Tom:" Amsterdam"
Me: " ...amsterdam yea obviously "
Jerusalem is only that stone for buildings, while tel aviv has modern looking buildings and skyscrapers that would be visible from pretty much anywhere
"I'll be happy if i get two or three right"
One perfect guess later...
"ok so we're going for a perfect score"
Wow you are good. I can guess from flags, I know all the flags, but looking at the patterns on sidewalks and number plates is next level.
Me: Ahh yes that must be Venice!
Tom: It's Amsterdam for those of you who don't have too many braincells
Me: :(
loved your amsterdam call.. been there, done that
