  • @sonnymak6707
    @sonnymak6707 5 лет назад +4

    one may say the players were slower... but the 2 pairs helped make the game progressed. the Chinese pair was very good in attack and was one of the most lethal in attack. those days defence of doubles were quite bad therefore the China pair considered top. The msian pair were not good in attack but they were phenominal in defence and could return any smashes. So the games of these two pairs occillate. The indonesian and the Koreans during this time had to developped different strategies to counter these two pairs. Koreans of Park joo Bong play lot of drives and cross court whilst the Indonesians had to alter their attacking game to that of variable shots to counter the Sideks ultra defensive game.

    • @songsisters6269
      @songsisters6269 6 лет назад +2

      Still does. As you can see this is the Perth Superdrome, AKA the HBF Stadium which was opened in 1986, same year as Australians Audrey Tuckey (WA) and Michael Scandolera won the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Edinburgh, and only two years before this very event which was broadcasted on Channel 9. One of the commentators was in fact Michael Scandolera himself. Sze Yu was amongst the top players in the world at the time. The MS silver medalist at the 1986 Commonwealth Games also represented Australia at Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, and held titles at Taipei Open, US Open... He went on to become a well known actor after retiring from badminton. His father was amongst the first overseas Chinese Indonesian badminton players returning to mainland China in the 50’s.

      @@songsisters6269 Thank you for your reply. Does the hall still have the dedicated badminton courts as can be seen from this video?

    • @songsisters6269
      @songsisters6269 6 лет назад +1

      BadmintonConnect WA This was never meant to be a dedicated badminton facility anyhow. The arena serves multi sporting & cultural purposes and is certainly regarded as a top option should we have the badminton competitions of this level coming to WA. What you see here, as you would understand, was only set up for that particular event. We need to have our own, Australian stars & pros, and keep the Australian legends of this calibre in this sport to raise its profile. With today’s technology, we are able to record, share and view badminton footages of all sorts, though BWF could have done so much more to bring Badminton beyond the badminton community to the general public’s enjoyment on mainstream media.

      I think you have a misunderstanding of the level 30 years ago. Yang Yang in his prime would still make it pass the first rounds in a World Championship or similar. The game has changed yes, but for his talent it would have been easy to change the game. This was by no means a good match by Yang yang.

      Sidek Brothers were the best doubles players the world have ever seen. The players today would not be in the same league. These guys were skilled and played with rackets that limited the game. If you gave a top ten double team a racket from the 90s and asked them to take on the Sideks they would not get into double figures.
      The standard today of the Badminton skill has not improved but the tech has.
