Hey everyone! The water you initially mix with the powdered formula needs to be at least 70c to kill any bacteria. Hence the perfect prep machine dispensing the hot water first. For this reason when out and about you should mix the powder with hot water first before mixing it with the cooler water. Very faffy but carrying two flasks one with hot water and one with cool water could be the solution for this. X

I did this with my first child now aged 2 years old and will be doing the same with my second due in a week's time. I boil the kettle in the morning and fill a thermal flask (which stays hot for 12 hours), then i will measure out the formula into mini pots and when it comes to feeding time i just have to add the right amount of water and pour in the powder, then i take a pot of cool water to cool the milk down - so much easier. Also perfect for night time when your half a sleep

If you do the flask method for out and about do you pre measure the cold water too otherwise after you’ve put the powder in the water volume is higher so how do you know you are putting the right amount in?

Just a tip to not have too many steps to prepare a bottle when out and about. Just boil the kettle in the morning and let it all cool down to a medium-low temperature (suitable for baby to drink) then pour it all in in your thermos and it will keep it that temperature all day. Then you just have to pour in the right amount of water and mix it up with the formula. This is what i do not just for when going out and about, but also for all day at home. If someone can not afford the bottle making machine, this is working for us very well, my baby girl is 4 months old and its been working since day 1 🙂

Love this video it’s helped me so much! With the ready to feed, what do you do with the rest of the bottle when you’ve poured out the milk you need? Say you used 80ml out of the 200ml bottle, what would you do with the remaining 120ml when you’re out and about? Or can you just fill the bottles you need and use the whole bottle of ready to feed?x

Once the ready to feed bottle is open you have 2hrs to use it when it is not refrigerated xx

Hi!! I throw about the remainder of the ‘ready to use’ . It’s only safe for an hour so I just throw what I don’t want away 🙂 xx

Ellie how do you store your bottles once sterilised? Do you just leave them in your steriliser and take one out at a time as you need it? Xx

Hi! Yes I just leave them in the steriliser 🙂 xx

@@ElliePolly thank you! I'm sure I did the same with my first but sometimes I would assemble them once sterilised and store them on the side! I am expecting baby number 2 in a few months so trying to refresh my brain it's crazy how quickly you forget! Xx

I’m sure storing them on the side would still be fine as long as they’re not touching anything 🙂 xx

You can take them out and put them in the cupboard and there sterilised for 24hr, 48hr MAX. This makes making bottles up alot easier and faster. You can buy a sterilising machine that also drys bottles which if formula feeding helps prevent damp bottles and causing clumps in your feeds which can lead to bellyache etc.

What steriliser have you got wen I get my own house thinking about getting one 🤔

The perfect prep machines are highly not recommended by midwives, public health England,NHS or WHO. The reason is because the hot shot of boiling water kills the bacteria within the powder milk which is good, BUT the coll water that comes out is NOT sterilised water, it is tap water that goes through a filter, which doesn't kill the bacteria, this in turn could cause problems for baby such as gastroenteritis which for newborns is deadly. So the prep machine isn't really good idea. But each to there own. The best way I found is to boil the kettle and pour boiling water into a storage bottle, out it in fridge this water IS sterilised for 24hr .. the water then coolds in the fridge. When baby is hungry boil fresh water in kettle put amount of boiled needed into bottle, then top rest up using the cooled sterilised boiled water from fridge. And its ready to drink. For example my baby is on 5oz so I do 3oz cool water and 2oz boiled water. That is the safest quickest way to do a bottle feed. But the WHO and NHS do recombed fresh boiled water into bottle and cool it.. but as we know this takes ages but thats the safest way. The other way but expensive is ready made and when your out and about ready made or make fresh and time it. Then you got option to pump and bottle feed. But I would defo ditch the prep machine

You can just pour sterilised water in to the prep machine and then cold water is sterilised and filtered x

The NHS advices against this machine. The boiling water kills the bacteria in the formula, it's hard but please follow the instructions on the formula box carefully

No judgement from me... Just something I've learnt now. Milton Bottle cleaner works better than Fairy Liquid.
Also if you boil water for a few minutes, pour the amount you need straight away into a bottle as it is then you can have as many bottles with fresh sterile water as you like.
Having said that I wish I got the Prep Machine.
Can't believe coops is 7 weeks old 😲
