I got a super useful tip from the ballet teacher for the double frappe to figure out whether the double is front/back or back/front: if the next strike is front or back, then think of the next frappe's direction (to end up in front, one need to do back, front). if the next strike is side, then think of the previous strike: so if one just did front strike, then the doubles for the side is front, back since it's the more economical way.
