Plot twist: The real reason Raven started crying and apologizing at the end of Volume 5 wasn’t because she left Yang, but because Raven couldn’t convince her daughter that the past was repeating itself despite all of the warning signs and efforts to enlighten her.
That's actually waaaaay more human than what we got. It'd make more sense that Raven didn't apologize for leaving Yang since her whole shtick up to that point was that she was a strong mother who was out there fighting to protect her family as opposed to being there to coddle them. Of course on some level we know that Raven regrets that she left, but I doubt it would be to the extreme that she would break down that late considering everything that went o when they first met at the camp, not to mention how convenient the reason we got sounded. No, it would definitely make more sense that the pain and sadness when she looked her daughter in the eye and realized that despite her best efforts, she couldn't get her to break the cycle and now she is forced to watch her daughter go down the same path that she went down has finally started to set in for her.
@@GG1315 I don't think you're using the term "retcon" correctly. A retcon is usually referring to a change that completely contradicts something that happened at an earlier point in the story. In this case, the writers retconned the dream meeting in Volume 2, which would make the camp meeting the replacement. And because nothing really happened because of the dream meeting and it's never brought up again, I consider that to be a non-canon occurrence. Besides, it was a dream. In other words, they wouldn't have been meeting at all, it would just be an event that was created in the theater of Yang's mind as she sleeps. Finally, I feel like everyone has somehow forgotten that Monty Oum wasn't a writer, he was an animator. Yes, he did in fact create RWBY, but when it comes down to it, all he really did was the fight scenes. The show would have gone down this path even if he was still alive most likely.
@@GG1315 @GG No Re I don't really do the whole feelings thing. It tends to get in the way of rational thought so I often think with my brain, not my heart. Raven appearing alongside Yang in the instances you mentioned doesn't mean that they actually met. If they had met as early as the Yellow trailer, there would have been no point in Yang continuing to search for he'd after. Raven did save Yang from Neo in Volume 2, but Yang was unconscious at the time which means that they didn't meet. And if Raven did appear in her dreams, that's because it was a product of Yang's mind, which would mean that we'd be meeting Raven in her human form with spoken lines for the first time, but it still doesn't mean the two of them met in that Volume. This is not an opinio , these are facts as the show itself and often times the writers themselves tell us, which means that frankly they're not up for debate. Now, as far as Monty Oum being a good writer goes... I'm not exactly familiar with anything he's written. RWBY was a first for me and I don't watch anything else Roosterteeth has ever done, so anything else is out of my wheelhouse.
Lol yeah she definitely didn't win last volume. But yeah good job Ruby... way to turn an ally into an enemy.. she honestly HELPED Salem if we're all being blatantly honest.
Let's get our facts straight here the Heroes honestly have not won any major battle since the series began they won some small victories here and there, but for the most part this is starting to look like one of those Series where the villains win every major battle until the very end when the Heroes finally win the final battle but with a phyrric victory.
@@hypeman1825 To draw a parallel, Cinder is being the team RWBY of the villain side and kind of screwed Salem over in the long haul, getting rid of a villain who damn near* (NOT ALL) won all the fights she's been in (Neo). So there's idiots on both sides of the spectrum.
I feel like there are two ways CRWBY is handling Raven, either their holding her off for a future volume or what your saying that they’re burying her like Adam

You have to wonder at this point if only Raven & Summer knew. Tai really seems in the dark about everything but especially Ruby, he's not even in the room when Qrow tells Ruby about her eyes. Qrow seems to know more but not as much as Raven.
@@symanthagattis2933 that part! It feels like Summer and especially raven know more about salem and ozpin then qrow and Tai. At this point I don't even think qrow knows salem exists
I don't think there's really any arguing it tbh. Those two didn't even tell her who Raven really was, didn't tell her about Oz or Salem, didn't tell her *anything* , whereas Raven did within minutes of meeting her.
Realizing Raven is the only one who was ever important to the plot to have ever told the truth/made sense hit something in me that I can’t put into words
It's interesting that the only two people who wanted to break this cycle, Raven and Ironwood, have been written to seem unsympathetic. Ironwood wanted to stop the lies, and Raven wanted to leave this selfish war. But, nooooo. They went against the great Team RWBY. Therefore, they must die. Whether physically or character-wise.
If Ironwood wanted to stop the lies, why did he try to stop RWBY from using Amity Colosseum from telling the world the truth about Salem? It was his plan in the first place
It was, until it seemed that Salem would overtake them. After he saw the whale, Ironwood shifted his focus onto the thing that can end reality, the Staff. Ironwood realized that if Salem got all of the relics, Remnant was utterly doomed. In a way, he was still trying to break the cycle. If the Staff was taken out of the picture, that would change the nature of the fight. The war would no longer be on an arbitrary timer. (how long until Salem gets all of the relics)
the ironwood plans would not have worked in the long term for atlas and this would lead to the abandonment of remmante and thus lead to the success of the salem plans. Raven's plans were to take advantage of the battle to take the relic without knowing what attracted the grimmes which would make the bandits a target and Salem would quickly find it. Both may want to be broken the cycle by cowardice but it will only benefit salem
@@anonyme117delt5 And what was the better alternative? For them to stay and fight, waiting for help that would never come, thus further expending resources and men, and thus jeopardizing the staff? And considering team RWBY lied and withheld vital information that could've helped James come up with a better plan, this was the best that he could come up with on short notice. Ultimately he was proven right, as both Salem got the staff, both Atlas and Mantle are destroyed, and the people of both Atlas and Mantle are.now stranded in the middle of the desert being picked off by Grimm in a dust storm. Truly a magnificent plan by RWBY and co.
Something rather horrifying and humorous. I can just imagine the writers just, making the ending of Rwby were they just send them all back in time to Volume 1 and every event is on repeat until the end of time.
I hated when Yang was yelling at Raven in the end for this very reason; Yang had no idea what she was up against and called Raven a coward for fearing her. Not to mention that she called Raven out for her cowardice and turning back on people... but then goes to instantly forgive Blake for the same thing.
And then immediately turned her back on Ozpin the moment that she found out the same thing that Raven was implied to have learned. And then lectured Ruby for not being honest with Ironwood, right before going behind Ironwood's back and betraying his trust during that little stunt with Robyn. And then turned her back on Ruby the second that things weren't going their way. Honestly, I think the most annoying thing about it all is that pretty much nobody ever calls her on this crap. In fact, she pretty much always gets validated in some way. She never learns anything from it, she never gets called out on it, and she always gets immediately forgiven by anyone she's pulled it on. Somehow, the writers just don't seem to grasp that a character can never really have any serious development if you refuse to ever acknowledge that they're wrong. Any "development" they get when you insist on treating them as though they're always in the right will be just be (and feel) superficial and temporary at best.
Both her and her sister are hypocrites. “We can’t trust ozpin cause he didn’t tell us the truth” proceeded to not tell ironwood anything and then wonder why he doesn’t trust them
I can hear Grif saying this: "Wow, Yang, do those things you said remind you of anyone?" "Huh?" "I'm talking about the kittycat. You're pissed at her for leaving, so you took it out on your mother rather than her." "She left me!" "They both did. But you're too damn absorbed in Kittycat to yell at her about it." Silence...
There's an old saying. Experience speaks louder than instinct. Raven has been through this entire 'War with Salem' before and while events may be playing out different? The end results are looking to be the same.
Another team disbanded... the Silver eyed warrior dies trying to stop Salem, the Branwen (in this case Yang) goes AWOL, one of the other two stays loyal to Oscar/Ozpin, and the last one tries to live a normal life...
As a big fan and devoted defender of Raven, just with the thumbnail I was like "GOD F*CKING YEEEEES !!!!!!", then I watched the video and I cried because I just want to give her a hug !
Next to Cali Raven is actually the best mom. She abandoned her daughter because she needed to take care of the clan. Even still she never truly abandoned her. She always looked out for her. She still cares for her, Tai, and even Qrow. She told nothing, but the truth and when Yang visited her she gave her daughter actual hospitality. Fuck Yang she's just a moody bitch now.
Well, imagine your mother abandoning your family, no email, no card, no leftover gift before departing, not even a goodbye, just leaving your family hanging there thinking you´re out there, dead or alive for almost all of your life, but in actuality taking care of a group of bandits and pillagers because yes, i´m not surprised she´s pissed off by that, but whatever.
That or he got tired of everyone giving him shit for just being reasonable. He saw what was going to happen to James in the writers’ room, he had to conform or be warped alongside him into a villain.
Nah, it's because that would actually solve things without the heroes somehow doing all the work, the writers don't want that, and Qrow isn't arguing because this is the only gig he's got so far and wants to stay on the show.
Honestly, I think Qrow isn't saying much because he might feel that it isn't his fight anymore, his team is disbanded and gone, and it's a new generations job- he's just their for insurance when shit REALLY hits the fan. Qrow and Raven have always seemed to be almost opposites in a sense, so it would make since for that part abiut them to be different two. Raven wants to take a more active role in the events while being cautious, while Qrow wants to trust the flag and keys to the next generation but watching from a front row seat. Or I could be completely wrong and Qrow lost some memory and brain power cuz of all the alchohol he drank
@@DetectiveLance Yeaah, add that with being almost 40 and all the stress Qrow has probably been under (especially before he started drinking and after he stopped), and I can see why he would have some brain damage. Stress kills brain cells, so does alcohol, and the body deteriorates after 30. So, it could easily be explained with; "Qrow's brain isn't as functional as it seems, too much alcohol and stress. He genuinely doesn't have all his memories, hence why he keeps a picture to remind him, and his brain isn't all there. He hasn't realized that it's a good idea to tell RWBY about his past because of brain damage."
THIS is exactly why I love Raven. And she deserves more screen time and recognition in the show. Ppl who hate her just go back to the fact she left Yang...and we don't even know why she did it to begin with...probably to give her a better life? And I completely agree with u Fang than Tai n Qrow have done NOTHING of significance against Salem as Raven has. Tai says for example that Raven's faults tore the team apart...and where those faults exactly? to distrust? to question everything? To actually turn her back at Ozpin as she knew he was hiding the truth...?
~Personally Speaking: I was really hoping Vol8 would of revealed that Hazel's Sister died on a mission that was too difficult for her & her team to complete because they were first years, but Ozpin decided to "Bend the Rules" and send them on it any way; much like he did with Team RWBY was back in Vol2. Instead of Learning from her death and never doing it again, Ozpin instead may it Mandatory for first year Huntsman-in-Training to have a Huntsman chaperoning them; so that, if something like that happened again, the blame would shift to the Huntsman Not only would it continue the theme of Ozpin doing the same thing over and over and not learning; but it also would of taken a iconic moment in the series, and put a dark & relatable twist on it. Making it Understandable why Hazel would blame Ozpin as much as what was revealed back in Vol5, and give Oscar a bigger wall to Overcome when trying to correct Ozpin's Mistakes... ...But Them Vol8 actually Happened~ ...
Rwby's biggest problem is that they want their main characters to always be right, and at the same time, they try to make them be teenagers (meaning that they make them act sometimes out of impulse and be reckless, which isn't bad for character writing), but since they can't be in the wrong, they don't make elder figures be guides. Raven was able to be so honest and be so muchh right about all this because she was taking an antagonistic role, and as such, they could say "Oh, she was just being an evil character, selfish and coward" (which by Yang's words, seems that's what they intended). Team STRQ is not gonna be of any help for the main cast, that would require them to admit that the main cast can be wrong and need to learn from others who know more Rwby secondary characters have a lot of potential, Ironwood had a lot of potential as a gray character (before they butchered his character), Raven had a lot of potential and could've explained so much, the ace ops had a lot of potential (I mean, it's the first profesional hunters team, it could've been nice to see them as a team more and as a reflexion of the main cast. Vine and Marrow could've benefitted a lot from time on screen with Blake, and blake with them, since Blake this volume didn't do anything.). They have so many glimpses of potential, but at the moment of truth, they always miss the point and we end up with things like the infamous battle Clover vs Qrow and Tirian (I still don't know what the hell were they thinking, I was seeing the episode with a friend, and we were both surprised. My friend was visibly angry, and I was laughing because it was so stupid what was going on)
@@kingraplhmativo5178 With Weiss, I think the foil would be more his brother. Whitley was the more affected by that, after all, Jacques was too antagonic even from the start (maybe they could've made him a better villain, but he was too antagonic). I think that role fits better whitley, as he was the one wronged by his sister's inability to trust him in a way that made sense (I mean, Willow told her that he resented her for leaving him with them, making her understand that he is also a victim of their father, and yet the first thing she does after that is point a sword at him and tell him to go to his room.). That stay at the Schnee manor should've been used to develop the relationship between Whitley, Weiss, and maybe Willow, because they didn't ever looked at Willows character, like, I wanted to know why she became an alcoholic, because it looked like she was using that as a coping mechanism for something (my bet was that Jacques did something to her that made her see herself as worthless, because I don't believe for a second that someone that is able to say a line like "Of course he doesn't want to know anything about you. You left him alone... with us" isn't someone who cares about their family enough to just run away from an abusive household, specially since she is the true owner of the Schnee Dust company (I mean, Weiss said it, Jacques got the Schnee name through marriage, and probably had only the power to represent the company's interest while Weiss was not in the legal age to inherit it due to Willow's alcoholism), like, she has the economic power and the motivation to leave Jacques with nothing, and yet she doesn't, so, she must have a weakness Jacques was exploiting, like lack of self-esteem or something like that
This just goes to show that Raven truly cares about her daughter, she told her the whole truth, warned her of the danger and of Ozpin among other things, she truly cares even if she doesn't say it
If Raven truly cared about Yang, she would have taken Yang with her so that Yang wouldnt be raised to believe and listen to Qrow and Tai over her. Is Raven truly so surprised that Yang doesnt want to listen to the one who truly abandoned her?
@@Xgendude14 I'm not denying the fact that she abandoned her daughter, what I'm saying is that despite that there's still a part of Raven, no matter how small, that does care about Yang Cares enough to: Constantly follow Yang around to check up on her Have a portal dedicated to her (also Raven's semblance only works with the people she cares about, so she has to care about Yang to some extent for that to even work) Save Yang in a moment of mortal danger And tell her the truth about the situation she is caught in She's not mom of the year material or anything but that's a lot of effort for someone who "doesn't care at all" Now this is me just guessing, but with the options of: A) take your baby with you and raise her in a tribe that kidnaps, raids villages, steals from people, among other things, while also having to raise her in a place of constant danger Or B) Leave her in a relatively secure place where she can grow up like a normal girl, even if she lives blind to the truths of the world She shouldn't have abandoned her daughter in the first place, but given the fact that she did, I think it's easy to see why she chose option B), and I honestly think option B) is the most logical and caring of the two I apologize for the long text, I have a hard time expressing myself in short sentences
I really love the dynamic of Raven being diametrically opposed to her daughter to protect her.... But the writers can't seem to hone any of that appeal.
You mean the character that learned the truth was right all along ? No way, no one could have predicted that haha. Man, I still love Raven character so much
@@anonymousapproximation8549 as much as I don't want to admit it (BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT TO!) I know you're more than likely right. Her family, even know, is continuingly keeping both Ruby and Yang from the truth, and I'm starting to get really mad about it. Raven only ever told the truth, and she's the bad guy? Hello? She's not a good person, but she's not a bad one either.
And she did so knowing her daughter would likely only hate her more. You can't tell me she a very bad person when she acting better than most of the main cast.
I mean, you could make it that Yang and Blake developt feelings for each other. The Big problem is that they did a bad(or lack) of execution in doing it. And at the end,it ends up becoming a Bronie attribute and a progressive shield agaist those who critizices the show
I always wanted a team or someone with actual brains to be in a scene like this one. It was originally meant to be an OC team. "I can't believe we've been lied to all this time. All the people we've lost, the friends and family that we'll never see again." "But there's got to be a way to stop it. Isn't there?" "This isn't what I signed up for. No amount of money is worth going up against a goddess of darkness that can't be killed." "What about you, fearless leader? You think you can just punch or head butt something hard enough not to think about this?" "I am thinking about this. Don't think that just because I'm quiet that I'm not as angry as all of you. Yes, we are in too deep to bail out. Yes, we were lied to. And yes, we may not win. But if we stop now and let things play out like they've done before this will never end." "What do you mean?" "All this has happened before because Ozpin has been playing this game all along. But now, we know there's a game going on and we know the stakes. It's our turn to make a move. It may be good or it may be bad, but I will take satisfaction in doing something that neither of those two immortals see coming. Now we have all the cards. Are you guys with me?" "Damn you and your cowboy speeches. We're in." "What's our next move boss?"
Honestly, that would be incredible! I had made up an OC who was granted the power to look at someone and know everything they need to know by Ozpin. And since Ozpin, as much as I love him as a character, is a sneaky bitch, he didn't meet this person again in person until shit hits the fan.
Given that Raven is the spring maiden and one of the wishes for this century is already missing, I always assumed she made a similar wish to Ruby's and learned the full truth. When she confronted her team with the information, they either straight up didn't believe her or were convinced not to by Ozbin. She couldn't reveal that she learned all of it from the relic without showing her hand with the spring maiden. This all culminated with her leaving the team and returning to the tribe. Summer's death was probably the final nail in the coffin for her to lose all faith in Ozbin or beating Salem. Ozbin has essentially been knowingly throwing people at a fight that he knows they can't win for centuries. It's the whole reason Hazel sided with Salem. Sure, she's the one who killed or helped kill his sister. But Ozpin convinced his sister to throw her life away in a battle that he knew she could never win. Just as he did for team STRQ and just as he was going to do for team RWBY.
@@davidssubwaycookies190 It would help if we actually knew the ages of team STRQ. We don't even know how old she and Tai were when they had Yang. It's also possible that she was assigned by Ozpin to train the last spring maiden before she defected.
@@Snaaaaap I wouldn't be surprised if she convinced the former spring maiden to open the vault for her, they used the relic and saw what Ruby and them saw, the spring maiden either went crazy or completely gave up when she saw the vision from the relic, and Raven decided that she would be better of taking the power herself rather then let it fall into potentially worse hands.
Still, even if fighting against Salem is “pointless”, what do you suggest we do? Give up, lie down, and let the Grimm just kill us? Or let Salem take the relics, bring the Gods back, and she convinces them to destroy Remnant and everything?
This is so true yet sad and i didnt even realize til now..i feel like qrow these past 2 volumes have been infatuated with clover and its blinded him from the actual battle with salem and it seems like in volume 3 all qrow was was a camera; picking up video or evidence of movement from salem but never really getting involved except when it comes to fighting Tyrion or protecting ruby but by not dwelling back into his past hes just hurting ruby and the others more than ever in this sense
It would be great if at the end they revealed it was a member of the cast telling the story of RWBY & Co. to a younger generation doomed to continue the cycle.
Theres a saying in "More knows the Devil by being old than being devil", history and respect for the elders are often being ignored and even ridiculed by modern art and media, which is a shame. and if we remember the past "Kids rule, adults drool" speeches Ruby gives and how often are portrayed as positive.... i think we all know the answer how things are gonna develop
This is an interesting revelation, it would be amazing to actually see the cycle get near repeat and then have the main cast finally see it and break the cycle before its too late, but knowing RWBY that's not gonna happen.
I mean yeah pretty much, hell qrow is for the most part is exactly like Dante except qrow gets action and her own child has a robot arm, emotional issues, and spends a majority of her Time killing monsters

So does anyone else think that Yang wasn't really taking Ravens advice when she told the truth to Robyn? Cause like she said Yang shouldn't accept what others tell her and she should start questioning everything. With Robyn she didn't really do that? Maybe I've read too much WarHammer, but maybe what changes is that the entities in each artifact are in fact some kind of demons hoping to corrupt Remnant and the story about the Gods and how Salem was created are all lies and Salem and what's left of Ozma, or the entity masquerading as him, are demons themselves and can only manifest through a host while the Artifacts are simply conduits to some hell-realm, and in the end they stop it all by having Oscar break the cycle of possession by sacrificing himself right as he and "Ozpin" are about to completely merge. The resulting explosion of psionic or whatever energies repairs the moon or something as part of undoing the damage they'd done and the demons are sent back screaming, their final victory denied to them.
If you ask ozma why I continue to oppose her. Because he loses patience with oscar, if the world is ruined it is his fault (salem) ozma is not arrogant.
Yang has become the second-worst character in the series, due to her stupidity (only barely above Blake on the suckometer). She chose to question things at the wrong time, with Robin. Sure, she gained an ally, but she's also the biggest reason for all of Atlas being fucked over, because she wanted to put a finger to Ironwood. She and Ruby both hold the burden of completely screwing over Atlas, because they chose to keep secrets (Ruby) and go behind people's backs (Yang) Huh, now why does that sound so familiar. Didn't they scorn Ozpin for the same thing? An entire nation was felled by two little girls wanting to put a finger to good order and discipline.
Honestly, Ruby opening the lamp and learning Ozpin's secrets cost Remnant big time. Atlas is at the center of cutting edge tech and dust production, so losing it was a HUGE blow in terms of resources and being used as a base of operations for the group. There's no explaining that away and honestly, the sisters need to suffer for what they've done.
I hate how team RWBY in Vol.7 choose to lie to Ironwood (a straight up good guy they all knew since Vol.2) while blindly trusting Robyn (a criminal vigilante that they never even heard of before Vol.7). Its so dumb.
@@Xgendude14 yes, I can 1) The secrets Ozpin kept were literally world-changing, and there's a good reason he kept it from the world. 2) Lionheart didn't lie to them, we straight up betrayed Ozpin. And as he said "I wanted him to be remembered for the man he was, not what he became in his final moments." Ironwood gave them nothing but a reason to trust him. He was transparent from the start, and offered all he could to aid them throughout the series. They repaid him by going behind his back, and twisting in the knife. They literally did the EXACT SAME THING that they scorned Ozpin for doing. Fucking hypocrite moronic children.
while i dont agree with Raven abandoning Yang ( or betraying everyone at the end of vol 5.. ) you do raise a huge point. out of almost everyone she has been the most honest and upfront with team RWBY.. i truly hope we see her soon.
As someone who holds an unreasonable amount of love for one Raven Branwen I must thank you for every video you make about her, because they continuously give me the reasons.
I said this awhile back but ruby unifying the world against salem is the same way that salem united the world against the gods .......we all saw how that turned out.
Tbf, while Salem does have magic, its not like she can cast DELETE like the gods can. Hell the fact she had a hard a time as she did assaulting Atlas says alot about the extent of her powers. Of course this is taking both the logic of the Atlas situation (assuming it was even the most logical) and then assuming they remain consistent to that power level. This also assumes that rwby is actually in a cycle. I'll be frank eruption fang may just be making a leap in logic due to Raven bias.
"Insanity is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results..." With that said, I think it would be extremely anti-climatic for Salem to be defeated unceremoniously By team RWBY or the protagonists in general, especially if RT's forced to wrap up RWBY in a hurry. I sure hope they don't go down this route despite the circumstances these days. If anything I don't even see Salem as the series' true villain or the final antagonist. There's always a tragic and sympathetic aspect to Salem and her story, and at this point it's not gonna be all that emotionally satisfying to see her kicked to the curb. I've always read her as more of a anti-villain who from a different perspective could be seen as even more of a heroine than a conventional villain. A couples of observations of mine: 1) Raven is now a far more likable character than Yang. Raven also happens to have way more potential for character development than Yang at this point, although RT will probably waste her away as was the case with many other characters thus far. 2) EruptionFang seems to be way better at developing RWBY's story than Miles and Kerry, to the point that his analysis makes the writing of the series look better than it is. 3) Considering Qrow doesn't even sound like Qrow anymore these days, I'm not surprised that he's becoming another character with wasted potential. I mean even with Vic gone, they could've gotten JelloApocalypse to do his voice instead...
So, fun fact, I've been writing a fanfiction ever since volume 4 which is basically a literary interpretation of the series, though I'm splitting off from volume 6. Since the beginning, my flan for the finale was going to be a plot twist that all of this has happened before and that RWBY was just 1 iteration of many. So, I freakign swear if they do that before I can write my version, I'm gonna be pissed
This analysis solidified Raven as being one of the best characters in the show for me. I’ve always understood (and liked) that Raven’s characterisation was one of the more complex ones out of the show, but I have not found a way to justly connect this characterisation to the main plot of the show, until this video. I have to admit that I have focused on her motherhood story far too much compared to her other relationships and with Salem’s plot, but finally, this analysis virtuously tied Raven’s story to the plot via her experiences with her team, and thus concretised a reason for why I consider Raven’s character one of the best. Excellent video EruptionFang. This topic’s going to be a certified hood classic in the book of RWBY critiques.
Raven is the only one of her team who not only accepted the past, but proved that she learned from it. Qrow spends most of his time trying to forget the things he regrets and only focuses on the present. Tai spends so much effort trying to shelter the truth from Ruby and Yang, it's unclear how much he actually knows. But Raven accepts what the past was, almost priding herself on her ability share it while others have only kept secrets and lied about what's happened and is still happening.
yeah, nothing will change my mind on RT writing, they say the story has been planned since the beginning, but now it just seems like they're shooting from the hip cause there are other higher priorities than the actual story. It's the constant releasing every weekend, the merch, the mangas, the crossovers, the shipping, the fan pandering bullcrap, the VA firing people left and right. RT doesn't care about the story in itself, they care about fame and money. If they did care about the story like they claim they do, it would be better and the writing wouldn't be so inconsistent and not act like they forgot the previous volumes before. This show is was a trainwreck since vol 4 and Raven is my favorite character cause she seemed like the only one who gave a shit about what was happening cause Eruptionfang is right, she's the only one to bring up Salem and all this other stuff. Hope she returns only to die off in the end so we can move on cause you know, evil.
Also consider this: literally every time Ozpin has ever tried to get the upper hand against Salem, it always blew up in his face and he'd lose yet another part of the world that can never be reclaimed, like Beacon, Atlas, and Mantle in the present. All he can do is keep a stalemate with Salem, depriving her of resources, but that's it. The protagonists have literally no chance of actually stopping her. To use terms from Mass Effect, we're watching a Reaper Cycle with no Crucible. It doesn't matter how heroic or how much willpower the heroes have. They are all doomed.
I am both really excited and really concerned for when Raven returns to the main story. Just hope the writers don't pull something completely out of the blue or stain her character even more.
@@adigitallegend6269 They retconned her meeting yang at the end of one of the volumes to push this whole bad mother role. They want the viewers to hate her. I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a cartoon evil villain like Ironwood did.

I left the show shortly after RWBY &JNR got to Atlas. The writing had already been going down, Adam had been demoted to mustache twirling villain and offed "because." They took the moral grey, and put it back to black and white. And then set up a living in hell scenario. Killing Salem is impossible. Changing Salem's mind is improbable bordering impossible. Humanity will never live up the the Light and Dark God's expectations. So salvation is improbable as well. The only game is to put off exterminatus for as long as they can to have one more day in the hellish world that is Remnant. A light sprinkling of hope to draw out the "Grimm" dark inevitability of annihilation. But poorly written with plot holes you can ride the Moon through. I miss Monty. Might be time to have fun with portals and find the universe where he is still controlling and running RWBY his way.
I do think they were strange with Adam don't get me wrong but I feel like theirs little grey when someone you worked closely with, or was with depending on how you read into it in the eailer volumes gose through great lengths to hide from you. setting season three and after aside Adam was always, on some level, very cold and beloved in fanus supremacy. I do think they went over board on making him indisputably evil but somehow he's suffered the least out of any of the characters that made it past volume three. I guess part of that is them killing him off season five didn't give them more than a handful of volumes to mess him up. They could written him a lot better and maybe made him reach some kind of understanding that Blake was done with him and that his method of leading the white fang was harmful. It would not be a redemchion arc for him as it think that would be terrible but this way they don't just kill him off. But this is RWBY we are talking about they always mange to make their "grey" characters "pure evil."
Ive been thinking of something since v7 and that is that Summer and Raven used the first question of the lamp. When team RWBY summoned Ginn in v6 she said that there was 2 questions left. In v7 when Salem appears in front of everyone in Ironwoods office Ruby says "we don't need to kill you to stop you and we will stop you" then Salem retorts with "your mother said those exact words. She was wrong too." You also have to consider that Raven and Summer could have possibly been good friends after Raven left Tai and Raven very well could have had the power of the spring maiden considering it was about 7ish years after yang was born when Summer died. So it is possible they could have went to the vault and asked about Ozpins past and that could be one of the biggest reasons to why Raven doesnt want anything to do with it anymore and possibly knows exactly how Summer died. When she was talking to Yang and Weiss she did say she was telling the truth. One thing I can think of that can go against this is that Raven seemed confused about how the door to the vault opened.
No matter the era, no matter where you are from, there is one thing you should know " War, war never changes, but men do through the roads they walk" ( Quote Ulysses fallout New Vegas)
Raven talking about how she went to Beacon to learn how to kill huntsman made me remember Huntsman haven't been much big deal since Qrow's debut. Since then they have been forgot or just idiots or people for team rwby to make look bad. Like Raven didn't need to learn how to kill them they are all pretty trash tier.
It could be easily fixed by having an All Might style character. Nothing big but someone for people like Ruby, Jaune, and Yang to gush over. Maybe have Beacon Alumni visit the school and go with students on missions. Perhaps the missions board is on the school ground, showing the huge amount of jobs and hunters. Maybe introducing the Aceops early. God, anything to show why these people are considered heroes would be great. It's like the writers are afraid of having adult characters be cooler/more competent than the teens. Unfortunately, that makes everyone wonder why these kids looked up to them in the first place, and we don't know if they're improving because there's no basis for improvement.
Fatmanfalling makes a note of this Huntsmen In the show have shown to be eighter dead or teachers in some form, and when we finally saw two of them in vol 6, one died almost immediately, and the other got injured soon after. And than there is the ace ops, Atlases best team of huntsmen that lose against a team of freshmen who did not even finish their first year at Beacon. Me personally, I dont mind when a show takes a different turn of focus, but making being a huntsman so big of a deal that their are seen as defenders of the world (according to Glynda) but than is shown to be easily killed off (on and off screen) and relegated to teachers just makes the goal of being one seem pointless. Perhaps that is why when they got their license in vol 7 I felt nothing except confusion
I was thinking about this the other day. the average huntsman isn’t all to special they aren’t that many of them and the ones we have seen have been lack luster. When we first saw qrow and winter they felt faster, stronger, better. Now we have these kids who didn’t complete their training beating the best atlas has to offer it doesn’t feel like huntsman have any luster to it. Like imagine if class 1-a beat up the top hero’s in japan, it doesn’t make sense.
@@bean1an143 well we did get new ones in addition to Miles and Kerry, and while Ironwood in vol 7 was done well. And than vol 8 happen and we notice that the new writers dont change shit sadly except somehow making the last half of vol 8 somehow on par with vol 5 in terms of how lack luster it is
If Monty was writing it, I feel they would have learned from the past and Raven could have been more involved too. Given Monty DID have plans for Raven that Roosterteeth changed after Monty died. They even tried to pretend that Yang never met Raven at the school fountain. Which we saw after the credits of volume two! But as things are now? No way will Roosterteeth acknowledge the fact she told nothing but the truth.
I will say that in the sense of STRQ and RWBY being the same, Ozpin's big secret being revealed in Vol 6 is different then the secrets initially told to STRQ and RWBY. STRQ got the Ozpin edited version, which lead to Raven digging deeper into it, while RWBY and Qrow got the big fat truth about the past, gods, and etc. So it is technically a break in history repetition, however, Raven was still right.
I've literally been saying this since Volume 5!!! But like you said, hardly anyone is willing to acknowledge how much Raven was right because they can't look past her being a deadbeat mother. And honestly, my own theories aside, I'm starting to think the reason Raven has been dodging Yang's questions about why she left is because she knows it's not revelant right now; she knows Yang isn't walking away from this war, so there are more important pieces of information to worry about right now than why she abandoned her family.
well that and RT wants to make the adaunce hate her because "she left her daughter so there's no way she can be right because peolpe never made mistakes or do the wrong thing and should never give anyone, expect emerald to caused one of their friends to die and another one to basicly get themselves kill. But the mother who seemly left her daughter for reasons of her own and still shows she cares about Yang in some way, na she's pure evil, you can't trust her even thought she is right that'd be crazy.
I think "the last eye is blind" refers to Qrow being blinded by his faith in Ozpin. Since Raven knew much more than what Qrow knew at the time (Vol 5), it seems like she went around spying on Ozpin and Salem AFTER Team STRQ went their seperate ways. The enigma is really Tai. In a sense, he gave up on the war the same way Raven did, by abstaining. He decided to focus on supporting his family instead and isn't shown to be a part of the inner circle the same way Qrow is DESPITE knowing the truth. He also didn't stop his daughters from joining Beacon and becoming huntresses despite what happened to Summer. But maybe that's also why he didn't share any advice. For him, there was no advice to give. Summer's death was apparently a shock to Ozpin, too, meaning she operated on her own and without backup--she was likely hunted down by Salem. This would mean that Team STRQ didn't actually have any experience confronting Salem as closely as Team RWBY has, and the one person who did died. Qrow had an "excuse" in that he still had faith in Ozpin pre-Vol 6 and he chose to let Ozpin choose the path instead of sharing any advice of his own. This is probably why Qrow's reaction towards Ozpin's dishonesty was the strongest, and so was his despair. He probably thought about how his sister WAS right, and how he's just been leading Team RWBY down the worst path without realizing it. I definitely wish that they'd mention Raven at some point in Vol 6. STRQ's generation seemed more like a recon mission (what with turning Raven and Qrow into actual birds) and RWBY are the ones who truly jumped into the fray. I think history HAS repeated itself in the sense that Ozpin's distrust and his inability to compromise created a rift with Team RWBY, Qrow and Ironwood, and the show made this pretty clear. Raven had the words... but her response was to look away from the impending doom and do nothing about it. Raven's entire arc is basically just to showcase another outcome of Ozpin's actions. He essentially tore that family apart. Her impression of Ozpin had been jaded the same way RWBY's was after they learned the truth, but Raven didn't get the chance to see Ozpin try to redeem himself in Vol 7-8. In this sense, they are showing that RWBY is heading down a slightly different path, but different isn't always better.
Raven: Why are you doing this?! You are abandoning my lessons over mommy issues! Think Yang! By ignoring my lessons, you and your idiotic unprofessional team will destroy more lives rather than saving lives! You'll put your younger sister through the same experience and possibly same end result like Summer! Everyone and everything you know, WILL be gone! Yang: ..... @@Jaromeo1287 I really do too. Don't just kill Raven off and leave it like that. If she was this supposed big element it yang's life, cause Yang was looking for her in vol 1, then give us a reason to think more of Raven than just a "bad mom". For all we know she could be an anti-hero, seems like she's set up for it, but then she's placed on the backburner.
The problem is that they would have to make actual attempts to write a decent plot and characterizations, something even season 5 attempted, but nope, we really aren't going to get any attempts anymore. They don't have a reason to care, so I'm just going to continue ignoring the actual show and it's teams, as they don't deserve my time or non existent money.

Your videos are really good- I love watching deep dives into side characters, or plot lines to get a bigger picture of the whole plot [whether the writers intended it or not] and HOPEFULLY, this will all tie in to give an ACTUALLY satisfying wrap-up to the Yang-and-Raven plot. But also, let's be real. With the way the story is going so far, Team RWBY will prevail by blindly flailing around with little repercussions.
theory: is the shopkeep the most powerful character in rwby because hes running multiple businesses across remnant at the same time or is it like officer jenny/nurse joy where they have a ton of "cousins" (cough clones cough)?
I’m back from RWBY Volume 9 Episode 10 and holy moly you’re cooking EruptionFang! 🧡 I feel like Ravens appearance has reinvigorated my love for RWBY and I hope that they don’t drop the ball & add more depth to her.
She had the right idea to give up on ozpin cause and run like hell from salem(Both immortal are not favorable). And when you said history repeat itself I thought more in the line that ozpin life constantly result in this scenery truth comes out, betreyal, abandonment, and the only one getting the "deja vu" joke is oz and salem, and since raven perceptive is on point the realization is that she is part of the joke and wants no part in the punchline.
I really hope the two get a chance to properly reconcile, especially since her semblance is probably going to/should definitely be invoked to find/save Team RWBY. It'd be a nice moment if Tai-Yang were able to talk her into it, or if Ruby's transmission reached Raven and as such Raven decided to have hope in a Rose once more. Or maybe they'll just forget her and she and her semblance will lie in a plot-hole by the wayside. I really hope it isn't the latter.
Honestly I’ve been watching the shown only because I wanna know how it ends and if it ends with team rwby dying and Oscar as an old man finding a new silver eyed warrior, it would be the best ending to a show ever
This is absolutely why I love Raven, and even more so well past Volume 5. She holds a lot of potential to help everyone, but the writers are keeping her under lock and key. It makes it feel like they are keeping some big truth that Raven knows and are waiting for the right moment to reveal it. And the longer they do that, the less impact the actual truth will be. And the more they keep Raven out of the spotlight, the harder I feel that the redemption is going to have to be. I honestly hope they do Raven justice and not just leave her on the wayside. She's proven time and time again that she can be of use to the team, even more than Qrow these days.
Honestly the hole series needs a reboot because even good analysis like this is of material that without the expensive production would just be bad fanfiction that wouldn't last long.
Plot twist: The real reason Raven started crying and apologizing at the end of Volume 5 wasn’t because she left Yang, but because Raven couldn’t convince her daughter that the past was repeating itself despite all of the warning signs and efforts to enlighten her.
I'll pay that
That's actually waaaaay more human than what we got.

I hated when Yang was yelling at Raven in the end for this very reason; Yang had no idea what she was up against and called Raven a coward for fearing her.
Not to mention that she called Raven out for her cowardice and turning back on people... but then goes to instantly forgive Blake for the same thing.
Remember this is RWBY, where shipping >> family & character development smh.
“We can’t trust ozpin cause he didn’t tell us the truth” proceeded to not tell ironwood anything and then wonder why he doesn’t trust them
I can hear Grif saying this:
"Wow, Yang, do those things you said remind you of anyone?"
"Huh?"
"I'm talking about the kittycat. You're pissed at her for leaving, so you took it out on your mother rather than her."

SHHHH SHHH! NOT SO LOUD. if the writers hear you they might pull an adam and ironwood. And we dont need that for Raven
Me too, kid.
Raven is the best character that never got her time, I hope we see more and they do her Justice.
It is entirely possible that the reason Qrow hasn't given any important information away about Salem is because the writers forgot.
@@Ohimeshinso ok there is the almost 16 years of alcoholism
Instead of Learning from her death and never doing it again, Ozpin instead may it Mandatory for first year Huntsman-in-Training to have a Huntsman chaperoning them; so that, if something like that happened again, the blame would shift to the Huntsman
Not only would it continue the theme of Ozpin doing the same thing over and over and not learning; but it also would of taken a iconic moment in the series, and put a dark & relatable twist on it. Making it Understandable why Hazel would blame Ozpin as much as what was revealed back in Vol5, and give Oscar a bigger wall to Overcome when trying to correct Ozpin's Mistakes...
...But Them Vol8 actually Happened~
...
Without even realizing what the video was about I had already figured that SOMEONE would use this clip. I’m glad it was Fang.
Team STRQ is not gonna be of any help for the main cast, that would require them to admit that the main cast can be wrong and need to learn from others who know more
Rwby secondary characters have a lot of potential, Ironwood had a lot of potential as a gray character (before they butchered his character), Raven had a lot of potential and could've explained so much, the ace ops had a lot of potential (I mean, it's the first profesional hunters team, it could've been nice to see them as a team more and as a reflexion of the main cast. My friend was visibly angry, and I was laughing because it was so stupid what was going on)
I see the pattern
Ruby - Ironwood
Weiss - Jacques
Blake - Adam
Yang - Raven

If Raven truly cared about Yang, she would have taken Yang with her so that Yang wouldnt be raised to believe and listen to Qrow and Tai over her. Is Raven truly so surprised that Yang doesnt want to listen to the one who truly abandoned her?
@@Xgendude14 I'm not denying the fact that she abandoned her daughter, what I'm saying is that despite that there's still a part of Raven, no matter how small, that does care about Yang
Cares enough to:
Constantly follow Yang around to check up on her
Have a portal dedicated to her (also Raven's semblance only works with the people she cares about, so she has to care about Yang to some extent for that to even work)
Save Yang in a moment of mortal danger
And tell her the truth about the situation she is caught in
She's not mom of the year material or anything but that's a lot of effort for someone who "doesn't care at all"
Now this is me just guessing, but with the options of:
A) take your baby with you and raise her in a tribe that kidnaps, raids villages, steals from people, among other things, while also having to raise her in a place of constant danger
Or
B) Leave her in a relatively secure place where she can grow up like a normal girl, even if she lives blind to the truths of the world
She shouldn't have abandoned her daughter in the first place, but given the fact that she did, I think it's easy to see why she chose option B), and I honestly think option B) is the most logical and caring of the two

"But there's got to be a way to stop it. Isn't there?"
"This isn't what I signed up for. No amount of money is worth going up against a goddess of darkness that can't be killed."
"What about you, fearless leader? You think you can just punch or head butt something hard enough not to think about this?"
"I am thinking about this. Don't think that just because I'm quiet that I'm not as angry as all of you. Yes, we are in too deep to bail out. Yes, we were lied to. And yes, we may not win. But if we stop now and let things play out like they've done before this will never end."
"What do you mean?"
"All this has happened before because Ozpin has been playing this game all along. But now, we know there's a game going on and we know the stakes. It's our turn to make a move. It may be good or it may be bad, but I will take satisfaction in doing something that neither of those two immortals see coming. Now we have all the cards. Are you guys with me?"
"Damn you and your cowboy speeches. We're in."
"What's our next move boss?"
Damn right. That was well-said.
I would think she got the powers after she left since Raven said she tried to train the spring maiden and it would make sense for her to be older.
@@davidssubwaycookies190 It would help if we actually knew the ages of team STRQ. We don't even know how old she and Tai were when they had Yang. It's also possible that she was assigned by Ozpin to train the last spring maiden before she defected.
So Raven probably killed the Spring Maiden and took her powers for herself.

She and Ruby both hold the burden of completely screwing over Atlas, because they chose to keep secrets (Ruby) and go behind people's backs (Yang)

This also assumes that rwby is actually in a cycle. I'll be frank eruption fang may just be making a leap in logic due to Raven bias.
"Insanity is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results..."
With that said, I think it would be extremely anti-climatic for Salem to be defeated unceremoniously By team RWBY or the protagonists in general, especially if RT's forced to wrap up RWBY in a hurry.
A couples of observations of mine:
1) Raven is now a far more likable character than Yang.
Interesting! What would this fanfic be called? Is it on ffn or ao3? I'd definitely check it out.
what would this fanfic be called? :0
Soos is that you?
In Volume 9, Yang might have a vision of this conversation, but this time, she finally understand
Let hope so okay.
Nope, she doesn't. I guess that would require RT to care about plot instead of trying to bash the haters.
This is why Raven mother of the year
yeah, nothing will change my mind on RT writing, they say the story has been planned since the beginning, but now it just seems like they're shooting from the hip cause there are other higher priorities than the actual story.
Just Like Steven universe, as long as they say this was all planned, they can do whatever they want.
@@Jacob_G9 Maybe they mean "planned" as in they have a list of ideas, but there's no outline.
Great video eruptionFang :D
I am both really excited and really concerned for when Raven returns to the main story. Just hope the writers don't pull something completely out of the blue or stain her character even more.
me either, though she's written to be a bad mom, I can see her in an anit-hero role, but you know RT will destroy her sadly
Yep or do something even worse like do a full 180 so she is completely good and now has another child with Taiyang
@@adigitallegend6269 They retconned her meeting yang at the end of one of the volumes to push this whole bad mother role. They want the viewers to hate her. I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a cartoon evil villain like Ironwood did.
If she comes back in Vol.9, CRWBY will most likely give her the Adam/Ironwood treatment smh.

And since they brought Neo back cause a bunch of fans wanted her to return, I bet that the writers will not kill Neo cause the good guys dont really kill the bad guys in this show except for white fang henchmen in vol 2 and Neo is a girl with a cute design that they will keep around to satisfy the fans, and only way to keep her alive and around would be to have her somehow switch sides
I just hope team Rwby and Jaune the isekai protag kills Neo cause of all the trouble she has brought

Love this channel and Vexed Viewer. Keep doing what you do, Brother.
I mean yeah. Ofc she was. It's.. "Have I ever told you the definition.. Of insanity?")
Raven: I told you so
Yang: Still abandoned us
The section with Yang... THIS SHIT SHOULD'VE BEEN WHAT SHE SAW IN THE PONDERSTORM! EVERYTHING ALL WITH RAVEN'S VOICE NARRATING!
I swear, your theories made me like Raven more and more.
Who came back to this after comparing yang & raven scene with Summer & Raven
Fatmanfalling makes a note of this
Huntsmen In the show have shown to be eighter dead or teachers in some form, and when we finally saw two of them in vol 6, one died almost immediately, and the other got injured soon after.
The show needs new writers.
They retconned that meeting into a dream. And agreed
Remember this is RWBY, where any character who disagrees with team RWBY gets demonized, flanderizied and humiliated smh.
well that and RT wants to make the adaunce hate her because "she left her daughter so there's no way she can be right because peolpe never made mistakes or do the wrong thing and should never give anyone, expect emerald to caused one of their friends to die and another one to basicly get themselves kill.
Yang: .....
Raven: What will you have if Salem wins this war?!
Yang: .....Puns....I'll still have puns...
Raven: ....My daughter is truly gone.

The work and detail you put into this video is amazing. Never realized the similarities until it was pointed out. Well done
Great points and I hope you're right that we do see more of Raven and STRQ because she's one of the most interesting characters for me. Where she still clearly cares about STRQ and Yang, but because of the things she seen has chosen to do the whole bandit thing. Like you said the history is there to give us a really interesting character there.
