    If condensation at the foot end of the tent is a problem maybe you could stick that end of your sleep system into a garbage bag to waterproof it. Looking at the tent in the video it looked like if you tucked a round pepple/pinecone/marble/ect. where the top end of the trekking pole would normally go and used it to tie on a loop/line you could probably set up the tent without a trekking pole by suspending it from a branch or ridgeline from above.

    • @overweighthikerwannabe901

      After looking at the Amazon page for the tent it looks like you don't even need to do what I was suggesting to use it without trekking poles. My bad. Sorry. Looks looks like there is already a loop.

    This tent may have a great price but, even at that price, the negatives outweigh the positives. I don't think I would ever consider this for anything more than a kids tent for the back yard. (After sealing myself, of course) 3 years ago I bought a cheap Ozark trail 2 person from Walmart on a clearance price of only $15.00. It definitely outperformed this tent. But, was not lightweight. It is a freestanding double wall tent. We swapped out the stakes for the wise owl knockoffs of groundhogs. And ordered some aluminum poles that were the same size and much lighter than what came with the tent. The tent never leaked. Last year, I seam sealed and basically scotchguarded the whole tent just in case. I also managed to purchase a lanshan 2 that was slightly used for dirt cheap. Since we would take our dog with us, my wife and the dog would share the Walmart tent and I used the lanshan 2. I loved the lanshan 2 so much that I purchased the lanshan 2 pro this year. The netting was my only issue with the regular lanshan 2. I'm taller also and would find it slightly annoying but not bad. My wife and our fluffmut have taken over the lanshan 2 this year. I told her to try it out and see how much she likes it. If she likes it, I'm buying her a new one. If she would rather have the lanshan 2 pro, I will buy her one of them. Her 2nd trip with the regular lanshan 2 is next weekend. First went well but trying again just to make sure that's the one she wants. Even with the upgrades to the Walmart tent, it was still about a pound heavier so she already loves that part of it. I think this tent even with price and weight will never be worth the added price for the lanshan 1, 2, or pro. The lanshan tents in my opinion are the best bang for your buck in trekking pole tents. Doors are weird on the lanshan 2's but when using them for 1 person or 1 person and a dog, the doors aren't a problem.
    By the way, just subscribed. Don't know why I haven't sooner. Used your reviews in the past.

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt 2 года назад +2

      Hey! Thanks for subbing! Truly appreciate the support!
      I think you are spot on with the Lanshan 1 pro (and 2!). Personally, i would also rather pay the extra $150 and go for the Lanshan 1 pro! I want to do a video comparing the Lanshan to this tent, as well as a slightly more expensive trekking pole tent as well.
      But for those that can't spring $170 for a tent, this one isn't a bad choice. Definitely not my first choice, but not terrible. But like I said already, i agree that the Lanshan 1 Pro has definitely advantages and worth the additional money if it's i the budget.
      Thanks again for your support! Honestly super appreciated!

    Looks like an ok tent for the price and weight. I get why people hate waterproofing but honestly you can’t take any tent out there’s word that it’s waterproof. You have to seam seal tents sometimes. Especially after a couple seasons the sticking gets pulled on and you have to re seal. Nothing lasts forever especially packable tents…

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt 5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, Justin! Totally agree! Especially in the budget category, I just don't trust that anything is waterproof right out of the bag. Some are, but I'm willing to test them first (it's fun to sleepin the backyard anyway!) and then seal the seams/waterproof if necessary!

    I am thankful that I won a Paria Arches 1P a couple years ago. It's a little heavier at 3.2lbs, but it has a lot more room with a lot more ventilation and a removable rainfly when comparing it to the Underwood. Ventilation and a removable fly is important for me. I don't use a tent very often, but for personal comfort I want moving air. If I had to buy my tent, I would still prefer paying the $140 rather than the $49 for the Underwood. That aside, you did a great job with the video review and I went and re-watched the waterproofing video. (Ugh, the twerking again.... LOL)

      Oooh! I've wanted to try the Paria Arches 1P! You're right, for a little extra weight you get a lot more 1) freestanding, 2) extra room, 3) double wall/removable fly (which I really like as well!). Wish I didn't have so many dang tents or I would try this one out as well!

    Jeff, I want to start Winter backpacking in Missouri. I'm a side sleeper who rolls from side to side a lot. Would you recommend Paria's 15 degree quilt? Or, one of their mummy bags? I've never tried a mummy bag. Thanks for your opinion :)

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt 2 года назад +1

      Hey Will! I am a side sleeper as well and also roll around quite a bit! Quilts have been a GAME CHANGER for me. Mummy bags are ok, but I always felt claustrophobic in them. I wish I would have tried quilts sooner!
      As far as which quilt, the Paria 15 is pretty good. One thing I don't like about it is the horizontal baffling. Mine has had a lot of down migration where the down that should be in the quilt right where my shoulder and side are when I'm sleeping on my side, has all fallen down within the quilt so I don't have good insulation there anymore. I can shift it back, but it's annoying.
      My newest quilt is the Hammock Gear Econ Burrow 40 degree. and I LOVE it! I'm planning to get the zero degree for this winter. You can customize the length, temp rating, overstuffed down, footbox type (closed or open) and a lot of other things about the quilt. They are a little more than the Paria (20 degree is $220, 10 degree is $250, and 0 degree is $260) but even the zero degree is a pound lighter and I think it will be MUCH warmer.
      I just don't feel like the Paria can truly get down to 15 degrees, but I'm planning to test that a little more this winter to see how cold I can get it down to.
      Here's a link to the Hammock Gear quilt I was talking about: hammockgear.com/economy-burrow-custom/
      Whatever you decide to get, I'd love to know what you picked up!

    • @stlouisphotography
      @stlouisphotography 2 года назад +1

      @@DoseofDirt I really appreciate the recommendation, Jeff. The Econ Burrow looks like the quilt for me. I'm thinking of maybe trying the 20 degree rated quilt. The average low temp during the coldest part of the Winter in Missouri is around 26 degrees. The price jump from 20 degrees to 10 degrees is $30, compared to a $10 price difference going from 40 to 30 to 20, and 10 to 0. So, that's what I'm thinking, but I'm going to have to save up first. If I'm careful, I should be able to afford one before Winter comes. Best to you, Jeff! You're doing a good job with your videos!

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt 2 года назад

      @@stlouisphotography Thanks Will! The one other thing I'll note is the lead time. Since they make your quilt custom to your order, sometimes it takes 4-5 weeks (they usually list the current lead time on their site). I got mine sooner than they estimated, and I honestly could not be happier. My 40 degree is SO LIGHT but also so comfortable and honestly just perfect. Once you get it, I'd love to know what you think about it!
