Among my American acquaintances, there are many who see the rest of the world through the "outside the U.S. it's Disney world" lens. At first, they find it funny. But when things become too different from what they know, they quickly get scared and feel like they've landed with the cannibals in the jungle. When they stand in line at the airport and meet other Americans, they say they'll be so glad to be back in America soon. Not everyone is so distraught, but unfortunately many are. Ms. Jennings could be one of those.
Don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are soccer fans, but sometimes our association football/soccer fans here in the US seem a little desperate to experience the really crazy fan energy they've got in Europe.
Despite their attempts often falls short It really irks me that the devoted US fans doesn't get a bit of respect for at least trying their best to create an atmosphere. At least they are trying.
One of the fiercest rivalries in American football is the Iron Bowl, played every Thanksgiving weekend between the University of Alabama and Auburn University. But, despite the seriousness of this game, the fans enter the stadium together and depart the stadium together. You don't see European and South American soccer fans doing this. They even have fencing inside some of those big soccer stadiums to keep the fans apart. We don't have "soccer riots" at American football games.
@@PM-oq6ku I'm sure your condescending attitude makes you a lot of close friends. It's just a word my man, it really doesn't matter what the sport is called.
@@anandukrishnan1116 there is a massive rivalry in college football, but it usually plays out more like the relationship of the english and Americans of "takin the piss out of each other". sometimes it can get heated, but for the most part fans of the opposite team are seen as part of the same community just on different sides.
The first football association was formed in England in 1863. Rules were established - but continued to change - and the size and weight of the match-ball standardised. Crucially, carrying the ball with the hands was outlawed: association football (soccer) and rugby became two separate entities.
American soccer is... improving. Slowly, but it gets mostly our 4th-rate athletic talent. American football, basketball, and baseball get the bulk of the elite athletes.
you mean US soccer, most of America has been playing football for over a hundred years, you guys are just late to the party, but good to have you finally join the most popular sport on earth on a more competitive level.
Seattle Washington is often referred to as "The Emerald City," mostly because of the very green flora which is a result of all the rain. Washington State is also known as "The Evergreen State" because of all the evergreen trees. Fir and Pine and Spruce and Cedar and such are common here.
geekofix 1 month ago Hello from Germany, great video. The stadium at 5:15 is build like that on purpose. German engineering/construction. In Europe, but also in South America, fan culture looks a little different. Here in Europe, fans organize themselves into fan clubs and spend a lot of free time with and for the club. Very often, even the whole family is involved. I can recommend you to visit a game if you ever visit Germany or another European country. You will have a good time. But the US has some clubs with a similar fan culture like for example Detroit FC, Columbus Crew SC or FC Cincinnati. We recently also had the NFL (American Football) in Munich/Germany. it was an amazing experience. Clubs Europe: 2:55 Borussia Dortmund (Germany), 3:29 1. FC Köln (Germany), 5:15 Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), 5:55 Northern Ireland National Team, 6:33 AC Milan (Italy), 7:01 France National Team, 7:33 Iceland National Team, 7:56 Aris Thessaloniki F. C. (Greece), 8:53 Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), 9:10 Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands), Malmö FF (Sweden), 10:16 Paris Saint-Germain (France), 10:48 Romania National Team
Thing to remember is national league teams represent most or all of entire states, most of which have several million citizens. You can buy tickets to games waaaaay ahead of time, so even the bigger stadiums tend to be packed full of mostly only the superest of super fans, and yes, they often drink excessively. Its a unique experience, fascinating to non-fanatics who dare venture inside, but it become concerning and even a bit embarrassing very quickly.
Remember in America that soccer or what you call football is really the fifth most popular sport behind American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey so you really don't see as much passion as with American Football.
I wouldn't be so sure of that Diane. We may look at the box scores and root on the red, white, and blue, but we really don't have a taste for the game. I've tried to watch USMNT matches and I just didn't find it that interesting.
I think we did beat Ice Hockey already. I mean some exerts say we even beat baseball, most predict we will beat Baseball by 2023 end. Baseball declines by 5.8% and Football goes up by 12.3%. Not much time for Baseball left
Rare Tuesday drop . Love it ! I think the European fans have been doing it longer , so they have it down to a science. US will figure it out as soon as they win a World Cup . That’s a challenge !
You mention empty seats at the front, some competitions have stricter safety rules than others and clubs will sometimes be required to have a couple empty rows at the front if their seats are too close so that the stewards have space to watch the crowd.
Long term planning suggestion. You should plan a trip for next year's Thanksgiving in the USA. Find a family that could host you for Thanksgiving, but also has access to take you to a college football game the Saturday before T-Day. That Saturday usually has a lot of 'cross town rival' college football games. But, you want to go with a family that will let you experience the 'pre-game' tailgate parties that go on, with all kinds of foods and fun stuff. you should target somewhere in the south east USA or Texas. Then you could stick around for more post T-day events. Just make sure that you don't plan on flying out the Monday after T-Day, that is second busiest travel day, only exceeded by the Wednesday for T-Day, which is always on Thursday. I am sure you would get loads of video of a month of posts. Love your videos.
It's the Saturday AFTER Thanksgiving that has all the rivalries, and screw the Southeast or Texas, go to the North where they play football in the fall elements, like in Michigan.
In our first World Cup match, we actually beat Wales. Very surprising, because, normally the US men's team SUCKS at soccer. It's our women's team that is normally competitive. Out of 8 Women's World Cups, the U.S. ladies have won 4.
I certainly didn't expect this today. Chewie was funny looking at you during your hot pillow curse. I think I heard him say " What is she on about now?!"
It's partly because we've got little else to do in the winter and we're nice to everyone, and we also tend to get a bit on the happy side of drunk! The Bills Mafia is also one of the most philanthropic fan bases in sports, raising money and support for all sorts of causes and in thanks to (even opposing teams) player efforts. Check out some of the media coverage from last Saturday when fans were helping to dig out the team & support staff so they could get to Detroit, or in years past when a particularly bad play by an opponent kicked off a fundraising spree for THEIR preferred charity. #HeyEyEyEy #BillsMafia #BuffaLove

A daily dose of Diane Jennings my mind is blown even before I viewed. Then I viewed. At the start of the video Chewie had that what's going on, we don't work today? Then he disappeared, and I assumed a lack of interest, but no he just felt that a video without his direct involvement was not truly official.
They are actually broadcasting the Premiere League here in American in large cities and amusement parks. It’s really attracting a huge crowd, compared to American soccer.

Happy Tuesday Diane and Thanks to ED for the video! I don't know much about American Soccer, but I do know the Seattle Sounder fans are quite loud. As far as American Football goes, I think the Pros are definitely a more skilled game, but College Football has the better Atmosphere, very similar to the European Football atmosphere shown here. I did find out that my college football team unfortunately does not sell Turkey Legs or Fried Oreos. Will have to get them before the game.
American football has a thing where home team fans get really loud when the visiting team is huddling and just before the football gets snapped. Aside from the psychological impact, it can cause problems with the ball getting snapped, and sometimes it's enough to make it hard for the QB to communicate the coach's play to the team and have to resort to hand signals. 49ers fans travel really well, and recently played against the Cardinals in a special Mexico City game, and while neither team should have had a home team advantage, it was basically a 49ers home game. Some scummy orgs, like the Seattle Seahawks, geolock people from buying tickets so they always have a homefield advantage.
Happy Tuesday to you Diane! You look fabulous as always! I can appreciate that you're taking the time to understand and like American Football. Both American and European football are very fan absorbed sports, because of how passionate the fans can get emotionally over their participants. I watched a World Cup Soccer match between the United States versus Wales, which ended up in a tie. That was an amazing game! Thanks for sharing this video and your insights on it. Have a great rest of your week Diane. Be well and stay lovely. 👋😎✌️❤️🌹
95% of female track/cross country runners in college: "We grew-up playing soccer." Soccer coaches in college: "Curses!!! You stole our good runners!" College runners: "We got tired of running up and down the field for no reason and sometimes getting tackled!" And that's how you get college cross country and track runners. TEDtalk complete. 👍
There's much more passion involved in European football. It becomes part of the lifestyle and creates a whole community of its own. I recommend you to watch a video about a Turkish team (Fenerbahce) where supporters were banned from the game and was decided to fill the stadium with only female supporters and kids. Around 12000 fans were expected and tickets were printed accordingly. But 43000 fans (female + kids) ended up filling the stadium.
soccer(futbol) they like to dance and chant more where american football the audience likes to drink beer, eat some food, watch the game, and cheer on touchdowns/incetercepts. I like Chewies blanket on the couch he looks happy in the background. Tuesday video made my day awesome. A great thanksgiving gift thanks Diane.
A friend told me Rugby is a game played by hooligans and watched by gentlemen...soccer/football is a game played by gentlemen and watched by hooligans. American soccer fans are really different from American football fans (maybe it's the weather due to the time of year the season is played) . The street thing is called the march in...team supporters march from their pub to the stadium (at least in Orlando)
That wasn't quite what I was expecting. Glad for the surprise video though! 😁 I used to really get into cheering with the crowd, and on the field I was pretty loud. Lately though, when I do go to a game (usually baseball) I just watch the game. Lol. I'll buy ED some coffee (and a little adult liquid to put in it) if she does a video a day this week! 😁

To answer your question: YES, US Football fans can get as UGLY as certain English soccer/football fans. Bad chants, throwing things, storming the field, fights, you name it. I have been involved in an activity called Marching Band, in the late 1980's (High School) and early 1990's (College). I have to admit, much to my shame, I have chanted some "bad" things in high school. It was pep band for basketball, but my school's team was always getting unfavorable calls on our home court. So, the referees got the blunt of our eyrie. My freshman year at Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona), as a member of ASU's Marching Band (The Sun Devil Marching Band), I got a taste of worst behavior. Because it was an even numbered year, the ASU/UofA (University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona) football game was in Tucson that year. School/team rivalries in the US can get just as ugly as school/team rivalries in Europe. The morning was fine, as both ASU's and UofA's bands hung out, practiced our joint number, had lunch together, and I even got to mingle with the members of UofA's chapters for Kappa Kappa Psi (Fraternity) and Tau Beta Sigma (Sorority) (Fraternal Organizations dedicated to supporting bands and music.) Everything was fine. Even when one group played their fight song, the other group would playfully sing their alternative lyrics to said fight songs. It was the march over from the practice field to the stadium (in full Maroon and Gold polyester/wool uniforms) did the ugliness start. Kids as young as five were saying things (while being encouraged by their parents) that I would have had my ears boxed in by my mom and dad if I had ever uttered them. Glass bottles were being flung at us, and one broke near me, showering my pant cuffs in the remains of a brown beer bottle. Never experienced anything worse, thank goodness. But have seen fights, and sometimes people getting stabbed and/or shot makes the news at some places.
I'm not a big sports fan. But if I'm going to watch any sports, it would be American football, then world football (soccer), then basketball. Off topic, but I love how Chewie brings out your playful side. That's just adorable watching you with him. He's a cute dog. 😊
It’s a lot calmer and more wholesome in a sense I would argue because there are A LOT of state, troopers and other law-enforcement walking around and don’t forget about the surveillance and stadium jail( they even have a judge)
lets call a ''Hold the ball with you'r hand FOOTball'' - lets call a ACTUAL football game (a game you play the ball with you'r feet) ''soccer'' - 'merica!
Soccer is for the little american kids playing at school Football in Europe is for real man and craziest fan and supporters we did not play at the same level football is an art sometimes near most a religion . We have a only club to support an entire live even if i move in another country i Always be a supporter of Olympique de Marseille Allez L'OM 🩵🤍🩵🤍🩵🤍. My club is 125 years old
Also when I mentioned that college football fans are passionate, imagine how passionate the players are. They play for the sport, not money, the don’t/can’t get paid to play. They can’t even accept gifts like money, cars etc. the 50,000-70,000 seats filled with college football fans are mostly students of that college, their friends and families and alumni as well as private fans who didn’t go to that school. 50,000 seats filled? That’s pro sports numbers! RUclips vids to react to include ‘best atmospheres in college football’ or ‘the best college football fans’ you’ll be amazed
I lived in Italy when they won the World Cup in '82 and went to a couple of PSV Eindhoven games in the Netherlands. I also played 6 years of American football and 1 season of soccer. IMHO, the action and excitement of soccer takes place in the stands (especially in Europe) as opposed to American football, where most of the excitement is on the field. For me, it is far easier to watch American football on television than soccer. Just how I see it...I am certain others may feel otherwise.
If you know the rules of american football, than you're right. But explaining tthe rules of AF to an old german soccerfan isn't funny.... Why do they allways stop playing and spot the ball... why are the plays so short... why is he kicking now.... try to teach my father in law the rules of american football, but i gave up^^
@B F2021 the „stop/start“ nature of american footbal makes every play a possible Highlight play, so i also don‘t understand the critisism of it. But for someone who came from soccer and didn‘t understand the beaty of football it‘s hart to understand
you can tell the person who made the video was European or at least a fan. They showed almost none of the US side, and even then only a couple. There's a lot of times where the fans are just as hyper if not more so, the crowds are also usually a lot bigger, even at the college level. like the England v USA world cup game(the new most watched game of its kind ever) was in a stadium that is smaller than the Alamodome, a College football stadium by 4 thousand seats.

Despite their attempts often falls short It really irks me that the devoted US fans doesn't get a bit of respect for at least trying their best to create an atmosphere. At least they are trying.
European don't call this sport soccer. They call it football. So don't mixed up.
We do leave the stadium together in normal games. Its just rivalries where they make you wait
@@PM-oq6ku I'm sure your condescending attitude makes you a lot of close friends. It's just a word my man, it really doesn't matter what the sport is called.
Maybe it is not as much rivalry as football
The Oklahoma/Texas rivalry is the most intense.
@@anandukrishnan1116 there is a massive rivalry in college football, but it usually plays out more like the relationship of the english and Americans of "takin the piss out of each other".
sometimes it can get heated, but for the most part fans of the opposite team are seen as part of the same community just on different sides.
If you don’t see the stadium move like that, It is going to collapse and you should run

And the best players on the soccer team usually become the field goal kicker on the football team.
you mean US soccer, most of America has been playing football for over a hundred years, you guys are just late to the party, but good to have you finally join the most popular sport on earth on a more competitive level.
Seattle Washington is often referred to as "The Emerald City," mostly because of the very green flora which is a result of all the rain. Washington State is also known as "The Evergreen State" because of all the evergreen trees. Fir and Pine and Spruce and Cedar and such are common here.

Hello from Germany, great video.
Going onto Europe. Diane be like, what country is that? Brazil?
Remember in America that soccer or what you call football is really the fifth most popular sport behind American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey so you really don't see as much passion as with American Football.
I expect passions will ignite as the next world cup is due to occur stateside
I wouldn't be so sure of that Diane. We may look at the box scores and root on the red, white, and blue, but we really don't have a taste for the game. I've tried to watch USMNT matches and I just didn't find it that interesting.
Football is called soccer in a good a bit of ireland to distinguish it from gaelic football, but not in dublin so much
@@gallowglass2630 makes sense. Association is called soccer in most places that it's not the predominant football code.
I think we did beat Ice Hockey already. I mean some exerts say we even beat baseball, most predict we will beat Baseball by 2023 end. Baseball declines by 5.8% and Football goes up by 12.3%. Not much time for Baseball left
American sports: People pay to watch to a spectacle while drinking, eating and selfying
Calcio/Fursball/Futebol/Football: Fans do the spectacle
Rare Tuesday drop . Love it ! I think the European fans have been doing it longer , so they have it down to a science. US will figure it out as soon as they win a World Cup . That’s a challenge !
good luck, The Netherlands has been undefeated for 17 matches now.
this aged well
They have, on the women's side.
In USA you use speakers, in Europe we are the speakers
Americans wouldn't even know the capital city of America
they're all f'ed up on drugs or more concern with the next whores in Atlanta episode
In our first World Cup match, we actually beat Wales. Very surprising, because, normally the US men's team SUCKS at soccer. It's our women's team that is normally competitive. Out of 8 Women's World Cups, the U.S. ladies have won 4.
No you have draw not win
Soccer is the number one women's sport in the U.S.
The men playing soccer in high school/ college, well, were unfortunately usually bullied a bit.
Well, beating Wales is not saying much in terms of international football
Family versus thuggery is a better comparison. We take our kids and grandparents to games. But at least you got the names right.
I certainly didn't expect this today. Chewie was funny looking at you during your hot pillow curse. I think I heard him say " What is she on about now?!"
So true!
My first impression? Chewy is such a sweetheart!❤️❤️🐶🐶 "What in the heck is Mommy blathering about now?"
Chewie in the beginning: "Look at me. Look at me. LOOK AT ME! No one loves me"

Brazil? Europa? So sad
I always thought Buffalo Bills fans look like they have the most fun. Bills fans smash tables in the parking lot 😂
@@mikeh720 Y’all have some rough winters. You know it’s bad when they have to move your games to Detroit 😆. I’m not from Buffalo but have always been a Bills fan. Hopefully Josh Allen isn’t hurt too bad, I can see the Bills winning a few Super Bowls with him.

A daily dose of Diane Jennings my mind is blown even before I viewed. Then I viewed. I bow down to the expertise of Editor Diane in being so diligent to produce high quality video with a daily time limit. However, Editor Dianes cheerful injections into the video show that an opportunity to display her prodigious skills to the unworthy masses. At the start of the video Chewie had that what's going on, we don't work today? Happy Tuesday Diane and Thanks to ED for the video! I don't know much about American Soccer, but I do know the Seattle Sounder fans are quite loud. As far as American Football goes, I think the Pros are definitely a more skilled game, but College Football has the better Atmosphere, very similar to the European Football atmosphere shown here. I did find out that my college football team unfortunately does not sell Turkey Legs or Fried Oreos. Will have to get them before the game.
Me too-post them over!
That 'i think i would leave' made me chuckle xD try to get out there when shit hits the fan..it probably started already outside the stadium.
4:13 - Brazil? In Europa? Ahhh, Americans.
03:55 Europa, 04:10 Brazil. Good job, my American friend. 🤣🤣🤣
soccer(futbol) they like to dance and chant more where american football the audience likes to drink beer, eat some food, watch the game, and cheer on touchdowns/incetercepts. I like Chewies blanket on the couch he looks happy in the background. Tuesday video made my day awesome. A great thanksgiving gift thanks Diane.

@@DianeJennings🥰 You bring me so much joy with your gifts and are very appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving week.
sorry but when was brazil a EU country? ^^
You’ve got it twisted. The saying goes, “Football is a gentleman’s game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen.”
Europe... Is this Brazil...?
That wasn't quite what I was expecting. Glad for the surprise video though! 😁 I used to really get into cheering with the crowd, and on the field I was pretty loud. Lately though, when I do go to a game (usually baseball) I just watch the game. Lol.
I'll buy ED some coffee (and a little adult liquid to put in it) if she does a video a day this week! 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!

In USA you go at matches to eat hotdogs. In Europe, you are defending your neighboruhood's honor.
American football should just be called eggchasing, then noone would be confused.
Yes
I'm not a big sports fan. But if I'm going to watch any sports, it would be American football, then world football (soccer), then basketball.
Off topic, but I love how Chewie brings out your playful side. That's just adorable watching you with him. He's a cute dog. 😊
Soccer only started to gain popularity in the USA during the 1980s. So it’s a relatively new fandom.
It’s a lot calmer and more wholesome in a sense I would argue because there are A LOT of state, troopers and other law-enforcement walking around and don’t forget about the surveillance and stadium jail( they even have a judge)
Title: "EUROPA"
What country is that? Brazil? 🤣
lets call a ''Hold the ball with you'r hand FOOTball'' - lets call a ACTUAL football game (a game you play the ball with you'r feet) ''soccer'' - 'merica!

Europe.. is that Brazil? Just how
Also when I mentioned that college football fans are passionate, imagine how passionate the players are.
4:19 "brazil" ??????? wtf she's serious ?

Happy Tuesday! I really enjoy this video.
5:30 the stadiums are build that way so it's easier to absorb the shock of the fans jumping. that's save.
you can tell the person who made the video was European or at least a fan.
