That was a masterful performance....the pianist brilliant. Considering her age then....this performance....wow! Since then Jackie has matured into one of the worlds great singers! But this....was a dream come true for music lovers worldwide!
There are many good child singers and we say how good they are for their age. Then there is Jackie. It is her light and shade, her vocal ability When she sings in another language it is perfect. He ability to interpret the emotion from each song is something even many adult singers can't grasp. Perhaps most of all, it is her respect for each song. It is like she has delved into the background and meaning of everyone, enabling her to tell the true story. That is why she is always going to be remembered as the best child singer ever. And now she is all grown up nothing has changed. He interpretation of songs is breath taking.
I can't agree that nothing has changed. Since her late teens, all her performances I'd seen were well sung, if not sounding belittled by her. She seemed to be "cruising" through, not dynamically accentuating parts of songs like she'd done as a child. Her dynamics aren't the same. It's all very mellow & overly soft ALL the time. Yes, something has changed.
Some things have changed. Her voice is more powerful and mature. It's easier for her to hit both low and high notes making it seem like she isn't trying as hard. That's because she doesn't need to. If anyone says she's lost something just go and listen to songs like 'A Million Dreams', 'She Used to Be Mine' & 'Another Day'. She still closes her concerts with a combined 'O Mio Babbino Caro/Nessun Dorma' medley that is majestic.
Like a flower swaying in a field her little body moves as swaying in a field of music and so much emotion channeling from some unknown force giving her inspiration that fills our cup to the top then leaving us to beg for more. This was 8 yrs ago and we got more and more. Thanks Jackie.

So here is a child, 10 or 11, that is performing at a level that no child has ever been before and may never be again. For me, the greatest performance from the greatest concert ever.
Considering that Jackie did not speak or understand this foreign language she sang it to perfection. And the young pianist accompanying her....wow! I come back frequently to listen to this video.....it reminds me that there can be truly pristine moments in music!
Several people have expressed a desire that Jackie sing "Broken Vow" now that she's "old enough" to relate to the lyrics/story. Given that Lara Fabian re-wrote the lyrics in French especially for Jackie, "Imaginer" belongs to her and will always be associated with Jackie as a positive message. This performance is historic in several respects and will be forever nostalgic and subsequent performances are treasures in themselves as well. She recorded "Apocalypse", which is an original given to her of a broken relationship. I'm satisfied with that.

Despite this being a record setting fundraising concert on PBS's 'Great Performances' I've never seen a rebroadcast of it on any of their stations like they've done with numerous other concerts. Very odd.
@@rd1903 Yes, when I saw the Dream With Me concert on PBS, I called in with my pledge, and told them it was the best program they had ever done. They did rebroadcast it about 3 times that yr, and each time it brought in record pledges.

It took 4 days to film these masterpieces, Jackie was 11 years 4 days old when filming started.

Considering that Jackie did not speak or understand this foreign language she sang it to perfection. And the young pianist accompanying her....wow! I come back frequently to listen to this video.....it reminds me that there can be truly pristine moments in music!
Several people have expressed a desire that Jackie sing "Broken Vow" now that she's "old enough" to relate to the lyrics/story. Given that Lara Fabian re-wrote the lyrics in French especially for Jackie, "Imaginer" belongs to her and will always be associated with Jackie as a positive message. This performance is historic in several respects and will be forever nostalgic and subsequent performances are treasures in themselves as well. She recorded "Apocalypse", which is an original given to her of a broken relationship. I'm satisfied with that.

This DVD is a masterpiece. A treasure from heaven. It gives me chills every single time.
Despite this being a record setting fundraising concert on PBS's 'Great Performances' I've never seen a rebroadcast of it on any of their stations like they've done with numerous other concerts. Very odd.

@@rd1903 Yes, when I saw the Dream With Me concert on PBS, I called in with my pledge, and told them it was the best program they had ever done. They did rebroadcast it about 3 times that yr, and each time it brought in record pledges.
@@richard40x Good to know. Unfortunately I didn't discover Jackie until late 2013, well after her Dream With Me & Music Of The Movies PBS concerts. I've never seen any of her 3 PBS concerts repeat broadcast on PBS in the almost 7 years I've followed her. I saw her initial Awakening concert broadcast once and never repeated on the 2 PBS stations I get in my area.
This song excites me so much, to the point that it makes me feel that despite everything, it is worth to live, life is beautiful, precisely because of things like these

Jackie was just a child during this performance. She sang so many songs. She must have an incredible high IQ.
Only a few days after her 11th birthday. She sang 15 songs, 5 in Italian and this one in French. A vocal prodigy, with a genius for understanding music structure, score, orchestration, harmony and interpretation.....not fully appreciated by other than musicians.
So magnificent and beautiful a voice... My only regret is that father time has snatched this wee person and transformed her into adulthood and alas she now moves on to those other pressing adult interests of which we adults are all too familiar...My most high regards to you Jackie Evancho and my fervent wish for your success in all you choose to do...be well...

New single "River" Joni Mitchell, Oct 23. Jackie reminds me a little of Joni (Wonderfully weird artistic tastes) and I think that 60's Acid Rock fits Jackie's voice more than people know.
clearly there is more on this earth than we are supposed to believe. Dream with her and Believe. What is it ? Love from Heaven, nothing less will do. And it is everything we could dream and more. It makes this performance possible and will touch everyone soon in all we do. It is more important that anything we ever heard before and it is coming to stay very soon. Everyone is qualified now.
That is how this singing and music that comes from God and Miss Evancho could move us. It is from the source that moves all people starting with those that are to lead everyone and each other to love and to God. Love that we forgot about because of so many things set to confuse us. All of that will soon be invisible to our eyes of love.
