Why wouldn't you just hook each lower clamp pad to each other or if they get in the way, take the lower pads off and bolt the bars together with a single bolt?
What benefit do you get with that wooden connector?

i made such thing years ago just a thick metal bar with lot of holes , it was fast made and i made a whole bunch of them so now i can whenever i want extend all my glue clamps, a simpler version of yours. but yours looks better of course , mine is just a strip with holes.

couldn't you get the same effect by simply bolting the two clamps together through the hole?

this is great for certain applications that don't require centered clamping force; you can see that the cauls you use want to pinch up and inward because of the angle of the clamping force. still, this could save us in a pinch.
