Nice video explaining the need for adjustable control arms. My family has three Jeeps, and 2 of them are lifted. I have learned a few things over the years and wish I saw this earlier, because this will effect how ur ride handles on/off road, angle on caster/pinion, and wear and tear of driveshaft. The bigger the lift the more important this is, and there are only two ways to compensate: 1. Adjustable Control Arms. 2. Control Arm Brackets
Something no one talks about. On a Jeep JK..... After you adjust your pinion angle.... your axle will rotate a bit. Once that happens you will find your rear sway bar link now will rub and or bend going up against your rear lower control arm bracket. Nice eh? You may need to grind away part of the control arm base mount so that the sway bar link will clear the mount. Otherwise you will find a rear bent sway bar link. Also the rear sway bar angle will need to be put back to a horizontal orientation. You will want longer sway bar links.... and make sure you modify the base of the control arm or purposfully bend the sway links to clear the control arm mount. One more thing. You will need to install 10 degree shims to your lower coil spring bases.... to get your coil springs back into shape. Once your rotate your axle to get the correct pinion angle... now your coilsprings are going to be bowed. The shims will help get the bow out of your springs. You can purchase these shims online
Great video thank you! I’m having this done. Had an OMEmu lift put in my JK and it’s been tracking weird on the highway so my shop suggested BDS lower adjustable control arms. They didn’t explain the science like this though lol.
I bought the cheapest rough country lift kit for my TJ. The products are all fixed and not adjustable. Axles are off, the springs are off (too close to the pole). Adjustable track bar fixed the axle problem.. now I hope this adjustable low control arm help me fix the front springs to be more aligned in the middle
Great video, i have 3.5 jku lifted and replaced the lower control arms only, not a good idea. If u dont replace the upper ones also the axle diff where the drive shaft goes in will adjust down as u adjust the lower control arms longer because ur uppers are fixed to the top of the axle. Both control arms are a must if ur gonna change. I made this mistake and had to buy uppers also
Hey you seem so knowledgeable hopefully you see my message I bought my jk and everything fine now 5 months later it’s shakin coming to a stop I check the suspension and stabilizer bar I can move up and down is it supposed to do that ? Please help me out don’t want to keep buying parts to guess at problem
Great explanation, good job... it all makes sense now. would it make sense to put adjustable control arms on first before add a lift kit, or after... assuming you can do them at the same time.
Awesome video , I have a tj with a 4” lift , zone , came with fixed lower that are at the right length for the lift , also added ajustable upper , rides very nice , what’s your opinion on the fixed lower
What about upper control arms on the front of a tj? My Jeep tj rubicon has a 4” lift but no adjustable upper control arms in the front. I have the other 6 adjustable control arms. Why would they skip the front uppers?
Is there a chart that gives you rough figures for the lengths based on lift size? Just installed a 3.5” lift and wanted to get it somewhat close before taking it to an alignment shop.
Can I get away with just getting lower control arms and not uppers on 2 1/2 lift on 35's I can definitely tell the difference in distance on the fenders mostly on the rear, and how far can you go before the drive shaft is to short it's my first jeep and I don't know crap
For a 3.5" lift I was told that the adjustment for the control arm is 3/8 - 1/2" forward or out (meaning longer that the original/factory control arm) Does anyone know if that is correct? I only need it close enough to get it to the shop for the alignments.
You recommend anyone near Sacramento Ca area ?got a 2011 rubicon jk replaced trac bar adjustable, still all over the road just sucks.!!guess all try control arms....
By adding the adjustable control Arms and moving the tires back to a more normal position.. do I know need a longer drive shaft because the axle separation is further apart? Also, what can i expect to be better or different after the control arm upgrade other than the proper axle spacing?
alex arguello there’s no flat out answer to that. Generally speaking the driveshaft is ok, but if you want to get real in depth you can have the driveshaft length and balance adjusted for the tire size/gear ratio/etc. The number one thing you’re going to notice is much better daily drivability. It will ride better/handle better everyday
id get them. I have a 2.5 on my wj and it got a death wobble from hell. it also has 180k on stock arms ;]. Id suggest doing it. Im rebuilding my front end completely as far as tie rods, ball joints, and control arms go.
Fox1221 last name I have a 4 inch on mine and have been fighting death wobble because of it for 2 years my adjustable control arms will be here tomorrow

Great video, ordered my control arms today to get my castor correct after a 4" lift...
This was a GREAT tutorial. Thank you!
You have to be the best person at explaining things automotive related on youtube. Keep it up!
Excellent tutorial that is very well explained.
Great video. I wish I would have watched this before I got my lift or, should I say, picked the company I did to install it.
Very informative video! Only thing I think you missed was the difference or explanation of upper vs lower. Do both need to be adjustable?

awesome vid, pretty scary how many shops have no clue what's going on.

Do both the upper and lower control arms affect axle position? Or, is it just the lower set that actually affect it?

Great job explaining this.........
Would i need both upper and lower 🤔 or really just need lower? Basic street and off roading.... nice addressing 3inch intill adjustables are needed!!!
Hey you seem so knowledgeable hopefully you see my message I bought my jk and everything fine now 5 months later it’s shakin coming to a stop
I check the suspension and stabilizer bar I can move up and down is it supposed to do that ?

Any real downside to have some adj control arms on the rear and then a drop bracket on the front?
Dude this was great 👍
Do you need upper and lower adjustable control arms front back or just or just lower which one
What about upper control arms on the front of a tj? My Jeep tj rubicon has a 4” lift but no adjustable upper control arms in the front. I have the other 6 adjustable control arms. Why would they skip the front uppers?
Maybe I’m trying to take a short cut here. But if a leveling kit is used, can you just buy bottom control arms or do you need top and bottom?
Is there a chart that gives you rough figures for the lengths based on lift size? Just installed a 3.5” lift and wanted to get it somewhat close before taking it to an alignment shop.
I put my jeep jk control arms adjustable my jeep is raised 6 inches and I don't know how much I have to put my control arms
So only the lower control arms are needed or replace both on all four corners?
I've got the same control arms and instructions said put the adjustable end on frame and solid end on axle. What would the difference be?
people are fucking up..i wouldnt want my adjustable end smashing rocks
Good explaining thank you
Great Video!
Forgot to talk about setting pinion angle which is a crucial part of control arm setup.
Excellent video thanks
I’m looking for stock control arms. Can we make a deal? 2005 Rubicon
doesent the adjustable end go on towards the chassis?
Mad respect 🙏🏽

At what lift height is adjustable arms mandatory?
Same question, but our instructor doesn't reply to our questions.

Does this rectify death wobble?
Awesome
Very good
do you need to adjustable control arms with 2.5 spring lift
id get them. I have a 2.5 on my wj and it got a death wobble from hell. it also has 180k on stock arms ;]. Id suggest doing it. Im rebuilding my front end completely as far as tie rods, ball joints, and control arms go.

Do you recommend using adjustable control arms on a 2.5” foundation lift on a wj?
If I put adjustable on lower arms do i need them on upper.?
Steven Miller I’m curious about that also
also great video
You can just put control arm relocation bracket to save money
I have 2 inch spacers, do I need these? My Jeep wanders and has loose steering
no
Thanks

@dnrauto what Control arms do you suggest for a 4 inch lift? On a Jk, i was looking at the rough countrys.
Rough country works just fine we’ve used them plenty of times
We are also a rough country dealer, if you’d like hit us up to see if we can’t get you a price on them
Yes sir whats a good number to contact?

50% of information, nothing about caster angle.
Excellent video. So easy to understand. Thank you!
