Larry Linville was an American actor born on September 29, 1939, in Ojai, California. He is best known for his role as Major Frank Burns on the popular television series "MAS*H" from 1972 to 1977. Linville began his acting career in the theater before transitioning to film and television. He appeared in numerous TV shows and films throughout his career, including "Cannon," "Charlie's Angels," and "Grandpa Goes to Washington." Linville was also a talented voice actor and lent his voice to various animated series and commercials. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 60.

What is realky great about Larry Linville was how well liked and admired he was by the cast off screen. I've heard that many were actually a little sad when he left. He was a man of many talents, and a great character actor. I think he made the right decision to leave, as he pretty much took the character as far as it could go before it became a real negative to the viewers, or became just silly.
According to other cast members, Larry was the complete opposite of what we saw on TV as Frank Burns.
definately should have had some Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

The story needs a Frank Burns. That anyone could do that for the time he did is amazing. He was right though. His best time will tell.

Nicely done, only slip up I heard, Ojai is pronounced as O-hi. Larry Linville was a fine actor, he made Frank Burns easy to dislike and went the extra mile to sell a gag when needed.
I saw him twice on his college tour where he talked about his life and wanting to be an aviator. I even wrote a report about it for college. He was also in an episode of Hawaii five 0 where he plays a scientific psychological researcher.
Larry was a kind fella. Left MASH too early. Would have loved seeing Larry stay to the final episode. He left for a reason. Good enough.
Many actors left M*A*S*H early for a reason. Mclean Stevenson, Larry Linville, Gary Burghoff, Wayne Rogers. None of them were fired, they all wanted OUT. I can't think of any show in which more than one main actor chose to leave the show. M*A*S*H had four. I think the reason was that the writers of M*A*S*H were constantly denigrating the characters of everyone on the show to make Alan Alda look good. Basically, the show became the Alan Alda show... and the rest of them got fed up with that.

@@mikeymutual5489 Well, the show began as a comedy, and turned into a drama. There was no place for the character of "Frank Burns" in a drama. The writers started making it more like a soap opera.

Larry left for the very reason he said: the character was played out. Once Margaret dumped him he had no future on the show.
In early Mannix episodes, he played a cop or detective.
Larry Linville aka Major Frank Burns will always Stand! Linville was very talented! He did so many Shows and Movies! M*A*S*H Fifth Season Episode 3 "Margaret's Engagement" Will always in my opinion, Should of given him an academy award! His Personality change with emotional meltdown by trying to be an on the mission War Hero as well as capturing so-called enemy Koreans, His rescue Phone call from his Mother at Home, Thanks To Radar! and trying to make Margaret jealous in the mess tent about Him asking Hawkeye Pierce for them to both hook up on Double Dating with two young nurses! Followed by his youth in women crack towards her! That gave me a more respectful liking to his true side! Linville was also Great as Captain Jonas in "Kolchak! The Night Stalker" Episode: CHOPPER!
Mash lost my favorite character when he left the show.
It seems me I remember seeing him in an episode of Marcus Welby.
What is interesting to me, is that one of Larry's best guest spots i remember is on the Rockford Files.
He was a very cold, calculating scientist, who was running Jim Garner like a rat in a maze. Far less likable than Frank Burns, but yet totally different...
Studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Hated this man with a passion as a kid. Now as an adult I can appreciate the amazing talent it took to do that. 👏👏👏👏🫡✌️
