#MetroidPrime #Choctopus #Metroid
maybe some day we'll get a part 3
as if metroid fans don't get neglected enough😭
“Am I just gonna have a backtrack a lot?”
As someone who loves this game dearly…you have no idea
At least the second game is better about this (except for the power bombs).
I feel like the second game is worse with the backtracking since it takes so long to go find the item, then come all the way back, then get somewhere, then go back and get another item, then...you get the idea. At least the elevators are a little better about being accessible in prime 1.
I hate this part. Had to use the guide to find it
@@x-celsius5905 the game gives you an elevator directly to where to get the power bombs.
@@BigHailFan ...okay to be fair it's been a while since I played prime 2 but I still have bad memories of running all over creation trying to find items. I still like the game though, it's not a bad game. I just hate how long some of the backtracking takes.
Alternative Title: Donkey Kong plays a Metroid game and dies
*And shows us the upgraded game over screen
@@RushWheeler didn't he already show it last time?
@@novustalks7525 he's doing it again, just to check if it changes
That’s Wario’s thing.
Tip for finding missile expansions. They make a droning sound when you are near them even if you can’t see them. Missiles are often behind breakable walls so you can use the sound to find them.
Also important scans, like for lore and progression, are red instead of orange.
all pick ups make that sound.
I didn't find that out till like a whole decade later. It blew my mind when I did, and explained why it was so goddamn hard for me to get 100%.
Cool! I never knew that!
Choc, morph ball tip here:you can press X to jump in morph ball mode. You don't have to boost yourself with morph ball bombs. You can still boost yourself higher by setting a bomb up in mid air, but if your on the ground, just press X. It might not sound like much, but it's a very welcome quality of life feature
This, it is a very useful ability and it helps by making certain missile tanks easier to get (though I believe you can get all the tanks without the Morph Ball Jump)
BRB getting that Magmor Caverns morphball powerup
@@Hirochicken it’s not a new power up or anything, it’s something you can do automatically as soon as you get the morph ball bomb
I didn’t realize this until somewhere between 50% and 75% of the way through the game 😂
@@briangruenewald7536 I mean, yeah. I’m pretty sure the game never tells you this at all. Maybe Samus’ notes on the morph ball bomb tell you, but I don’t know, I’ve personally never checked
Choc you gotta scan the enemies, helps determine how to fight them
Yes, this is another really good tip. If nothing else, Scan all the enemies you encounter from this point forward. Some of the bosses can get tricky, and scanning them helps significantly
Did you not see me scan the enemies and bosses?
@Choctopus I made this comment when you were struggling with the Triclops. But yes, did very good on Thardus
Something I say to all new players is to only scan enemies/logs that interest you, even if they are essential to understanding certain parts of the story, because otherwise the game can start to be a boring slog. Though I should say, definitely look for those Chozo logs and always scan bosses :)
@@Choctopus You can also get some sweet bonus content by scanning a lot of stuff. In addition, after completing the game and restarting the save file, all the scans you made in the previous playthrough will still be recorded, making it easier to focus on what you missed.
A charged wave beam will paralize space pirates and instakill some robotic enemies like turrets, or malfunction them for a bit
I like to malfunction them and safely watch them have a seizure and go kaboom.
An advice, if you use beam weapons always charge it. Especially with the wafe beam
Hehe wafe beam, I like that error!
@@lunarsolar8749it shoots wafers.
Ridley: "OH! What did you just shoot into my mouth? Tasted pretty good."
YES
The fact that he only had like 20 missle is really funny. I'm so use to grabbing them all when I replay it now
What if Samus doesn't get power ups from bosses. she's just so hopped up on adrenaline she ascends. Like when she floats up getting a new suit.
That's a glorious image you put in my head!
The Double jump is just her heart literally skipping a beat because of the adrenaline
So few things:
Be aware of your surroundings. Pick ups are everywhere and make a specific sound when near them.
If you're stuck, scanning is your friend and look for out of place objects.
The game gives you plenty of context clues and gives you all the info you need for puzzles and fights.
The Wave Beam is from it's damage output as strong as the Power Beam but has a slower fire rate as you see (it deals 10 Damage per shot), the Charged wave Beam deals only 50 damage instead of 60, but therefore its Target-seeking Ability is quite useful for some quick-dodging enemies.
Getting to phendrana drifts with 15 missiles is wild
Are there more of these episodes? This has been a fun watch so far
I shed a single tear at your mention of Bionicle. I miss it.
This series ever coming back 😂
Use your charge beam more. It does missile levels of damage and, most importantly, pulls things like health and missiles toward you!
I did not watch until the end of the video lmao.
"When do we think Prime 4 is coming out, 8 years?"
AYO I GOT NEWS FOR YOU MY FRIEND
The whole Metroid franchise deserves better.
You’re getting better at scanning enemies now, my only advice is to use the charge beam more. Charge beams with the wave beam stuns the enemies slightly which give a bit of time to do another charge beam.
Also I would 100% recommend Resident Evil 4, both the original and the remake are phenomenal
Really hope he finishes this game his dread playthrough makes me laugh and I feel like a full playthrough of this would be just as fun
He didnt
Someone should probably tell him about the Morph Ball Jump (if that's a feature in Remastered, I only played this game in the Trilogy version).
Actually, I could tell him.
Flick your controller up to jump with the Morph Ball. I think. Wasn't in the Gamecube version, was added in the Wii version, should be in the Switch version.
Very important to remember for Prime 2, trust me.
Yup its in the switch version and x also does the jump too!
Small tip for missiles that I'm not certain if you've discovered yet. They fire very slowly, unless you push the button to fire your beam. This will automatically reset Samus' arm cannon and the cooldown timer on the missiles. So you can just then very quickly fire a missile again. There is a little rhythm to find with it, but once you do, you can fire missiles much faster.
It's moments like the beginning of this episode that remind me why I subscribed, that spontaneous deadpan question if Samus came out of boss fights on a victory high had me in stitches.
I'm honestly so glad i wasn't the only one who called fendrana drifts, "fendara"!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
A tip for Morph Ball puzzles: many of them have you going higher than a Bomb can make you go, but Bombs can be placed in mid-air. If you press X while in Morph Ball, you can jump. If you place a Bomb in mid-air, and then jump back up to it as it explodes, you get more height. There are a lot of Morph Ball puzzles that use that in this game.
I'm going for a 100% run in my playthrough (I'm using casual difficulty rn and then default on my second run) and I definitely remember all the metroid games being apart of my childhood.
My dad played them all on GameCube and my 4y/o (that's an exaggeration but yes i was really young) ass would watch him and help him!
And yes other m is apart of this too..
Also the metroid prime series is the first to break my fear of dieing alone in a game!
On my main account I'm planning on releasing a collection of clips of my playthrough!
It took 18 minutes and 24 seconds before I realized this is part two of a series. Dang.
I get so hyped when a choctopus metroid video comes out
Hey Choc, try using the charge shots more often, they offer extra perks (charged wave beam can paralyze enemies for example)
He won’t 😅
"Metroid Prime is terrifying", Echoes has entered the chat. All joking aside the various ways that Metroid as a series tends to create unease are pretty impressive. EDIT to add thought. Choc if you see this, use your Scan Visor more, it will give hints on enemy vulnerabilities. You can also hop in the Morph Ball by flicking the controller, it makes Bomb puzzles more conveniant.
In Echoes you basically live in darkness. I feel the space pirates were more freaky than the Ing though.
he’s using the inferior control scheme so ball jump is mapped to a button
@@silversauceran When I was younger the Grenchlers were what did it for me.
Prime 2 is my favourite game and it is genuinely haunting because of how alone you feel
@@slipknotmetal8101 It's a spectacular game, I prefer Prime 1 but 2 is either my next favorite Metroid or just behind Super. It definitely has better bosses overall compared to Prime (especially Quadraxis, that thing is amazing).
7:49 bro I’m with you on this! I didn’t really get into the series until a couple months before Dread was announced, then I marathoned the whole series (Primes includes). Glad you’re really enjoying, but I have the same feeling of being bummed about not having it in my life sooner
And thus another chapter in Metroid Prime is finished! Tip if you happen to see this, a charged wave beam can stun enemies for a bit. Give you some breathing room when you're swarmed by space pirates.
I am so glad you're having a blast with this game. I could literally hear the thrill in your voice as you play.
General Metroid tips: Your charge beam can be used to damage enemies that normally can only be damaged with missiles.
In prime:Scan the enemies and the environment if you need guidance.
"Idk why I haven't played this when I was 12" You, like many others have missed out on a phenomenal franchise for years and is just now realizing how great the series is. I never thought I would see the day when people finally know that Samus isn't a Smash character, but a Metroid character. Also you're not the only one who pronounced it as "Zeebs" in the past lol
If only you scanned that magmoor. Man had no idea how accidently funny he was.
wave beam isnt a direct upgrade, just another tool. Power beam has its shining moments throughout the game. As others pointed out the charged version stuns most enemies and will cause robots and turrets to short circuit
The best strategy for using the Wave Beam is to keep charging it; its charge shots will home in on whichever enemy you've targeted and will stun them long enough to either charge another shot or finish them off with a missile. Also, as you get further into the game, super missiles become your best friend. Right now your missile count is a bit low to use them effectively (ie spam them at everything that takes more than three shots), but as you keep going you eventually get to the point where you have plenty of missiles to spare.
I like to go on "item hunts" where instead of progressing i go back to an area I haven't been to in a while and start exploring to look for items and stuff; I don't know if you'd enjoy that, but it's a great way to get more missiles because they are the most abundant item, and it can also get you more health.
Really, just play the game at your pace : )
Bionicle died then they tried to revive it but it didn't catch on again
Idk what it is but this is the first time I enjoy watching a blind playthrough of the game. GJ
It's not so much that you need to scan everything, but if you're stuck on a puzzle or can't figure out how to beat an enemy, try scanning around.
And a hint for interpreting scans: a red word generally means sonething can be destroyed by a specific weapon and if "concussive blast" is mentioned, try using missiles or bombs
You missed every single e tank that you could get at this point💀
You kinda can't expect perfection from a first run of this game lol. And besides, It'll just make their location that much more memorable if he goes back for them for the final boss :)
Eh he missed like 2 which is fine, you probably meant missile tanks lol
If you think Prime 1 is terrifying, just wait until you play Prime 2. That game is a bona fide horror game.
Also, exploring your surroundings and looking for power ups is a core part of the Metroid franchise. Depending on the amount of exploration you do, you should have up to 60 missiles and 6 E-tanks by the time you fight Thardus. It is also possible to get at least three artifacts with just Wave Beam, Space Jump, and Boost Ball (not including the free one at Artifact Temple).
Honestly you're doing a really good job with the game. I've seen people struggle way more than they should with puzzles and enemies, but you are doing plenty of scans which is good. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game!
1:28 you see the magmar in magmar caverns lol
The good part of the Wave Beam is if you charge it up. The charged shot will electrify and stun many enemies, leaving them screaming and spasming for about the amount of time it takes to charge up another shot and continue the hurting.
My big tip for you: use the Charge beam in combat with your beam weapons! The shots are very strong, and it'll help you save on missiles. Also, wave beam shots automatically home in on any target you have locked on to.
One thing I like about those games is that unlike most other Metroid games, you can explore the map however you want as long as you have the right equipment.
Hey Choc, love seeing another person join the Metroid club, our ranks shall continue to grow! Definitely don't wanna backseat game, but here's a tip for ya (even though you've probably already played a lot more since uploading this video): spamming the fire button doesn't do very much damage like it does in Dread, charge shots deal significantly more damage like missiles do, so hopefully that'll help deal with certain enemies. Also you definitely don't have to scan everything, but scanning a new enemy when you see one will often give tips on how to defeat it; the way the game tracks completion is by how many items you've both collected *and* how many things you've scanned, so that's why people are saying "scan all the things" over and over again, but it's definitely not mandatory. Hope you keep enjoying the game! :D
Where is the rest of the game D:
Hey Choc, the Charge Beam is more effective than you think. I do think it was better in the Gamecube/Wii versions because there wasn't an array of shots inbetween every charged shot.
I love both how much fun you're having with the game and series as well as how flabbergasted you are that you missed this game.
PUPPIES AND DADDY PUPPY! (I find the ice enemies adorable) I must say that I died to the mini boss twice because of low missiles and I couldn't dodge well. Also, as said before, SCAN EVERYTHING!!!!
it was very funny watching him not figure out that the wave beam is the weakest beam for combat but believing otherwise.
Definitely charge the wave beam! It gets a neat stun effect and deals *significant* damage. It also just works better against bosses
8:36 oh boy, you NO IDEA how much fun the last beam, and the visor combos, are at the end of the game!
Btw the Plasma beam, AKA the last one, can melt tons of ice structures, and instantly kills baby sheegoths, as well as regular and shadow space pirates, when fully charged.
You can use the charge beam to deal more damage than regular shots. It helps a lot in boss fights.
"Gatorade-ass electrolyte" had me rollinnnnn 😂 good to see you playing one of my fav games ever bro, enjoy!
If my memory serves me right, the flying pirates DID use to explode on imact in a much more spectacular fashion. You should watch some old gameplay to see it really. This is my favorite game of all time, and its awesome how well you're doing!
23:09 This _is_ his business. I'm pretty sure he founded the space pirates for the sole purpose of gratuitous and intense violence. Y'know, that's actually how Samus and Ridley met! She was like 6 and Ridley wanted to slaughter her entire planet. Of course, he failed because a single surviving 6-year-old means you didn't slaughter the _entire_ planet, but 99.99999% is close enough, I guess. After that fiasco the chozo who had visited the planet 5 minutes earlier, Old Bird and Grey Voice, ended up taking Samus in and the rest is manga history.
Now THIS is a mf comment 👍🏾
In Prime, charge beam is far more valuable than regular shots, the opposite of regular metroid. Better than regular missiles.
Points for finally learning how to scan
But hopefully by ep3 you learn you can morph ball jump in the remake without using bombs, major QOL change from the original
I for one appreciate the scanning
Happy to see the new Metroid related content and that you’re enjoying yourself!
Lil fun fact about the beams in this game they all have different properties, power beam is like an all rounder, wave beam i believe is slightly weaker in terms of damage but it has homing shots, another beam u get later deals the most damage but has the slowest fire rate ect. Also another thing theres like unique super missile upgrades for every beam but they arnt required thus are extra fun upgrades so keep an eye out
Sadly Bionicles are no longer being made by lego...
Space Pirates : Let's make super soldiers.
Choctopus : Do not make super pirates!
Pirates : We'll make Elite pirates then.
Chocto : Curse my specificity!
1:29 he actually found a Magmar.
Can you please play this more?
The space pirates and their music are truly scary, especially when the lab goes pitch black
21:00 Imagine that Air Pirates excileration at having killed Samus Aran, only for her to return 10 minutes later.
Just as a heads up Choctopus, you might wanna scour through the areas for more missile upgrades and energy tanks. When you reach Phazon Mines, stuff can get pretty intense.
Great play-through, episode 3 where
My man forgot he was hyped for this game
21:00 nope. They did a reboot a few years ago but it apparently didn't do well enough to continue past the one wave.
I went through this whole area of the game without using missles. It was a huge mistake. I also didn't use the wave beam. Stupid.
30:09 I love how you said you were about "halfway done"
Oh man.. one of my favorites of all time. Enjoy it! It’s a classic for all the right reasons. I was terrified of the chozo ghosts when I was younger. And Metroids felt invincible until I learned of a super simple way to dispatch them. Without any spoilers, my man you need to get ready for what this game is going to throw at you 😅 some of the boss fights can be very unforgiving. Puzzles are pretty fun to figure out on first play through too! Awesome content! Humor is definitely on point!
This game has an atmosphere that’s never been matched by the other Metroid games.

Funny story, the bombu (the thing you encountered at the beginning of the video) used to scare the SHIT out of me, far more than even the Metroids
Curious as to why? XD
@@BigHailFan I think it was the way they wobbled as they floated towards your face. I just found that so unsettling and creepy
@@AngryGoats555 wouldnt that make the metroids worse then? :p they literally target your face.
There are versions of these floating light sphere things in all 3 Prime games, actually. Prime 2 has the “Harmony-class drone” and Prime 3 has “Atomics” which are also in Metroid: Zero Mission.
@@ThatWeirdGuyYouKnow Yup! The atomics freaked me out even WORSE than the Bombu did! Lol
I know Tears of the Kingdom and Mario are really good, but you are going to return to Metroid prime right?
choc - "you guys are eating right now"
*me eating a lil snacky as i watch* "yes, yes i am"
If I have one tip to give after watching both parts so far: always rely on charged shots for damage. Spamming uncharged shots is terrible DPS and drags fights out. Charged shots end fights much quicker.
This game is still legendary, this remaster felt like I played it for the first since years ago as a kid!❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Why do I relate to your old mall dilemma?
A mall I would frequent is the same

13:24 I could not figure that out as a kid. I ended up getting a guide a few moths after getting stuck at this spot
Charge the Wave Beam, Choc! It stuns the pirates and does a lot of damage!
In the Sheegoth room....there are boxes FULL of health and missiles in each corner
you can jump while in morph ball without using the bombs
are you ever gonna beat the game
Bionicle ended in 2010, they tried a juvenile reboot in 2015-2016 that justifiably flopped, and now it exists only as a fond memory and easter eggs in other Lego themes.
