I have a neurological condition (Small Vessel Brian Disorder) which if struck in the head or thrown to the ground could quite easily cause death or permanent injury. It is not readily apparent to a casual observer. I cannot allow another to grab me, strike me, even touch me if I believe they might perform one of these actions. Because of this I would have to use force sooner than the typical citizen if I cannot safely withdraw. In many states you are required to retreat EVEN IN YOUR HOME if it can be shown you could have used that to prevent the use of "deadly" force. Massachusetts comes to mind.

    Jack:
Good stuff! What is the word or term for a behavior that becomes an automatic response under Duress. So I strike out an assailant as a conditioned response to a threat.
    Thanks

You may be thinking of automatism, an exceedingly rare defense that has sometimes been used to negate actus reus. See, e.g., State v. Utter, 479 P2s 946.
