You hit the nail on the head when you said you’re not bias against e-bikes, almost none of us are…but…people with e-bikes will immediately label anyone that suggests it might be slightly easier to ride an e-bike a hater. I’m 57 and have no need for an e-bike, but I’m sure at some point I will, until then me and my 61 year old wife will keep chugging along enjoying every mile.

😊! I am a former dirt biker who got into mtb post recovery from a bad accident. Now years later at 67 I find my ebike allows me to continue riding areas for longer with less fatigue so I am able to function productively the rest of the day. And I find it combines the best elements of dirt biking and mountain biking (when I want it to) and gives me great joy. I typically ride at 30% power output. You will find enjoyment in ways you never even envisioned once you get multiple rides under your belt. Congratulations and enjoy!
P.S. careful with the speed, that only reinforces the negative attitudes towards e-bikes by other riders.

I too am a former dirt biker/desert racer. I've ridden regular MTB since I was 27, I turn 65 in December. I bought a Heckler 9 and I love it. I am prepping my Bronson to sell as I no longer ride it. I am lucky I live in Phoenix and can ride emtb trails out of my garage. I live next to South Mountain. As I got older, despite staying in shape, I could not climb like I used to, and pushing my heart rate way above my age-dictated limit was uncomfortable and not prudent. Now I can ride, in most cases, as I have throughout my MTB life. Trial etiquette is even more important with an emtb and we must be conscious of that while on the trail to keep the trails available to us.

I have been riding for 30 years. I got a full power emtb in 2022 and love it. I am still riding mtb 50% ish of the time. I still like the suffering to a point but I am 53 and dont have the recovery I used to. Now I ride same trails on emtb in zone 2 instead of zone 5.
No shame Cint, enjoy it. My emtb is the most fun I have ever had on two wheels going all the way back to my bmx days. I do xc to enduro shuttle lap runs on it. It also super handy on hot days where I can ride when it is 90 degrees and not get heat stroke!

one of the best purchase I haver every made. Former dirt bike rider and motocross racer, in my teens. for nearly 5 decades I have been riding motorcycles on the street, adventure tour and track days. got back into bicycling last year with a gravel/road bike and 2 months ago a eMTB. Never has 20 mph been so much fun, learning to ride in the dirt again has been a step learning curve and a blast. The ability to travel further, climb faster allows me to enjoy more downhill and see more territory while getting a level 2 or more workout.

  • @scotttriplett2151
    @scotttriplett2151 26 дней назад +1

Ebikes make everything about life better. You can still go for a ride even if you are tired. When coming out of winter and you are out of shape you can ride far enough and long enough to get a good workout as opposed to tiring out and bailing after a short ride. Owning an ebike has allowed me to get in better shape than I have been in years. I can go so much farther and faster on my regular bike because of riding my ebike.

  • @pilotleader

As a fit rider, your decision points are identical to mine as It opens up a world of possibilities for recovery/base rides and the enjoyment of downhill days. (My friends said my analog riding endurance has greatly improved). At the end of the of the day, it opens up a different type of riding which dedicated mtb riders need - it increases riding choices particularly when you have one which is part of a fleet. IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO AND CONGRATS!

I'm now 63. I think you will find yourself riding your eMTB more than you think - it's too much fun. Congrats Clint. You have the right mindset. Pretty much same reasons I got an emtb.
This year’s trip in PA on my Ibis Oso- limited time to ride and in 1 hr 15 mins got in 1900 ft of vert and, more importantly, descending. Last year on my analog- half that. Mind you we’re talking 95 degrees and a lot of humidity. So the descending was also better and safer because I was not exhausted. And the entire ride was way more fun.
And you also have the right mindset on the flats. People underestimate just how much fun you have ripping an EMTB on flat or cross country style trails and how much this will help your skill level doing downhill also.
And yeah, the extra weight of the motor down low couple with a good linkage and tuned. Suspension is amazing on the Downs. Took my Oso along with my Bronson to snowshoe about a month ago and absolutely love the field of the Oso the steep gnarly letter trails and high-speed chunder.
What idiot e bike haters don’t understand about pedal assist electric mountain bikes is that you get out of them whatever you put in. Which, of course is whatever you want. You can make the ride as hard or as easy and lazy as you want. You will probably find yourself attacking crazy uphills . I am actually riding some trails with mine.

Congratulations! I've been on the dark side for over two years, no regrets. Ideally, it's better to have both bikes. They complement each other. I like the concept of a motor with no resistance and if you take out the battery, you can ride it like a regular enduro bike with a slight advantage, and I do that sometimes. After a long ride on an electric bike, you want to push the pedals like on a regular bike). But an electric bike is definitely more fun, you don't have to die to deserve a descent)

It’s funny how everyone thinks it is easier. Downhill takes a lot out of you as well, even though you are not pedaling. my highest calorie burns have been on my trek rail. That motor may be your friend sometimes but I find very often I am trying to put down more power than the motor is putting out. It ends up being a weight. My times on flat terrain are generally faster on a regular bike because the motor holds me back. It’s such a great time and every motor has its own personality to learn,
Instead of doing the same trails I normally would I end up doing a level higher backwards, a.k.a. riding an uphill black diamond (technical climbing Will wear you out!) Unless you plan on doing the same trails you always do, just climbing fire roads, or riding pavement you are going to find more of a workout than you think😎🎉👍 The other cool thing with the eBike is after you push yourself to the limit you can chill out and let the motor take you back to the car instead of having to drag your butt back to the car feel like you are going to pass out😀

When I moved from Florida to Colorado, I basically had to get an e-bike just to do trails here. The hills are no joke but the decent is so fun. The main catch is the rules are all over the place - depends on jurisdiction - and can change as a trail crosses them. I’m just getting into mountain biking - and that’s even harder to do on an ebike legally. All Colorado State Parks allow them, some BLM lands do, and nearly all ski resorts do (downhill bike park in summer). My city is re-evaluating them for use in all city parks and open spaces - but that might take years to approve. Frisco Adventure Park is 2.5 hours away, so I can ride there too. Some trails in Fruita are next level fun.

    - Very fun Recovery Rides
    -Improve the upper body strength
    - Borrow it to your unfitted friends and enjoy a ride together
    - great Trail Building support bike
    - improve your ability to sustain higher cadence
    - if you have the Mastermind display you have always the possibility to check your watt and motor watt and so make the proper training but with double the downhills in the same time..
    -………
If you live in a flat area you aren’t probably in the best place for an eMTB but you will enjoy it for sure anyway !

It's just more fun 100% of the time instead of 50% of the time. If you like suffering, then maybe stick with your analog and stop complaining about others having fun. Sure you'll lose some fitness but I prioritize having fun and being able to access areas which I don't normally have due to range. Remember every time you ask yourself what's over there but don't want to spend the effort? Well with an ebike, you're exploring again, which is actually part of the fun.

Don’t care what anyone says, I’m 60 and love my e-bike. I just use it in trail or eco mode to feel like I’m 20 again

In about 2 months I wonder if he will still say 'I will ride it once a week or once every couple of weeks'. I bet he rides it more often.
I say an e-bike removes everything you hate about mountain biking, and makes everything you like even better.
Embrace owning an e-bike and don't be embarrassed.

Your reasoning for an e-bike is spot on. I think you will find you ride in FL mostly in eco mode because you will hit the speed limiter and turbo won’t allow you to go any faster- plus you will still want to get your heart rate up - just my guess. The biggest challenge will be federally managed lands not allowing them … yet. I spent a bunch of time in Colorado where there is a GREAT mix of outstanding county and state trail systems where they are allowed. I have not found that in the southeast yet. Look forward to hearing of your adventures.

Congratulations. I have the Turbo Levo. I highly recommend putting the Axs Transmission drivetrain on it. Shifting under load with no worries makes for a better ebike ride. I also put on a Zeb fork to handle the weight of the bike. 220 front rotor is also helpful.

Third season on my Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay and it is a blast. I have almost 4500 miles on it. I go through tires, pads and chains a bit faster. I also ride a RM Instinct, a Santa Cruz Chameleon and a Gravel/Urban/Touring - old steel framed Jamis Coda. I ride the eMTB the most now. Use cases for me are - time limits, heat, wind and when I’m fatigued. It eliminates excuses. Enjoy the ride…

I have the SL but I love my regular mtb but when it’s 90 degrees out I can still go into the woods and have a great ride. Or after a hard day, I can still go out next day…. Best decision I’ve made in a long time. Plus, I can go through very techy trails a bit easier.

Haha, prevarication an all before pulling the trigger on a new bike, were all the same. The price of that bike here in England is £7000 rrp, but £5500 on sale or about $5000 US dollars. My cycling mate has an electric MTB, amazing bit of kit. He has health issues like empysemia and COPD so at least he has an excuse.
My finger was hovvering on Add To Cart then i treated myself to a new chainring, chain, cassette and jockey wheels instead.
Please keep these videos coming. I showed my " sick" cycling mate this video and he cracked up laughing. Hes probably going to buy one of these to ape you.😂

When I was living in flatland and riding was my primary means of exercise, non-e cycling was the most enjoyable way of doing it while measuring my progress. I ran some but I did not ride Mtb much. Now I live in the mountains and run for exercise and all my cycling is on an eMtb. Up, down, all around and as you say - so much fun going fast. Of course you should be careful and considerate of others and maybe with e-assist there is more of a chance of mucking that up - but as you say - that is a people thing (e or no e)…

I did that and an ext coil shock with cascade link and a vorsprung smashpot in the fork and it’s like rinding a cloud that pedals like no other.
Levo is the best Emtb around in my opinion!

I said the exact same thing... not going to ride my e-bike all the time... and well.... I ride it all the time except in bike parks :) My nomad was the best ever bike I purchased last year... and a back injury made the climbing so bad so hurtful that I had to buy an ebike if I wanted to continue riding... So well, now that my back is top shape... still using my Heckler SL all the time :) It's just that good.

The regular turbo levo made the 500 foot climbs a blast while still needing to catch my breath once I got to the top. I was able to double the number of downhills compared to my regular bike!
