Same, I always felt so self conscious going into an Abercrombie and Fitch, if you didn’t have a perfect body or look gorgeous they were really judgmental, it’s like you had to be hot to wear their clothes, and the funny thing is the goths and emos at Hot Topic we’re so chill and nice compared to the stuck up snobs that worked at Abercrombie

All the staff were just a mess, there was no order or anything, they all just went on their phones and did whatever they wanted. Bro I had a hot topic employee hype me up about my body type and gave me the confidence to try on a skirt and now I have 3 of them and I love them all. She was my gateway to confidence for my style
Edit: because some of y'all need to hear this
    1. My body type is curvier with a slim waist, so the skirts would slide up and a appear too short. I am not, nor do I support being obese
    2. Yes I understand she was a saleswoman, but she actually did a good job. She helped me gain confidence, even if it was for the sales, I appreciate her and her work. She deserved my money because she was so sweet and gentle about it.
    3. I don't always need affirmation to do something, I simply had so many fails in a row that I was discouraged, I expected the skirts not to fit, as they seemed to me the same length and the hem didn't look any different.
Now if y'all are so insecure and unhappy with yourself that you have to accuse me of being a woke transgender obese insecure pushover, that's sad. I'm not trans, I'm not obese, and I'm happy with how I look. I understand that clothes were made to fit people not people meant to fit clothes. Thank you.

I worked at Hot Topic back in those days. It was such an awesome experience. We had a small crew, and we were all really close and good friends. We would hang out after work watching movies and doing other random things around town. Every employee seemed to have their own group of “fans” that would come in asking if their favorite employee was working that day. It was innocent and endearing. One of my co-workers there was Mike Gossin. He would later go on to be in a pretty popular country band “Gloriana”. So many good memories of those days.

When I worked for Disney, we’d have “regulars” the annual passholders, or passholes as Disney employees refer to them. There was a show that used to go on at night during the time I worked there, that had a lot of fans, like a ridiculous amount… and one of the guys in this fictitious band based on Alice in Wonderland, got followed home one night by an obsessed fan.
It might be cute to have some teenage girls be like, “Omg is Mike working today!” But when they are following you home after work, not so cute anymore.

Went to a Suncoast store one Friday evening at the mall. She was spooked by the shop clerk who was a dad bod, tattoo sleeve both arms, both ears heavily gauged, with a greaser rockabilly goth dude. She was buying snoopy peanuts gang figures that were on sale. My mother struck up a conversation with this clerk and connected on their love for all things snoopy. Conversation lasted 45 minutes. She walked out of there with a completely different view. Gave her the longest told you so attitude all the way home from that. Lol.

That was my first job in the early 2000’s. Back when it was still dark and “scary” each day felt like Halloween lol. We would see preppy kids too scared to come in just like little kids too scared to come to a spooky house to get Halloween candy, sometimes the reactions were pretty funny but we were all chill as hell.
Customers liked how laid back we were and would come in to geek out with us over metal bands and anime. You could literally eat Chinese food and drink monster energy drinks on the salesfloor while talking about Yu Yu Hakusho and Pantera all day and get paid for it. Barely, at $6.75 an hr but the discount was solid back then, and it used to stack with the frequent shopper punch card and clearance, and we used to get free concert tickets now and then.
