I don't know what was done historically, but I have found my British F to play very well with a smaller than typical mouthpiece. I use a 29mm Josef Klier KBP 3D 7.6 and find that it gives me easy intonation and a wonderful sound from pedal A all the way up to the 12th partial C an octave above middle C. The high range above the staff really sings with the smaller cup and the thin hammered bell. In my opinion, an instrument that is basically exactly half way between a euphonium and a 4/4 CC calls for a mouthpiece that is half way between as well! The only thing I would change about the British F is that I really think it should have a 12.5mm receiver.

Played on a Prokofiev at NABBA back on April 5th, and that tuba changed my life. Currently my goal to get one. Loved it so much, thank you.
