I used to own a BMW and remember going to the dealer and expecting to pay many hundreds of dollars and up over a thousand for regular routine maintenance. That was in my 20s and was living the average middle class “normal person” life with lots of debt (car, mortgage, credit cards, etc.) During the last recession of 2008 me and my wife were impacted badly and almost lost our home because debt piled up too much. We got serious and turned our lives around. For many years we didn’t buy any cars we couldn’t afford (no leasing and financing allowed). It turned out well in the end and going debt free was the solution. These days we prefer to daily drive just “regular” non luxury cars. I bought 2 Chevrolet Bolt EVs (paid cash) 3 years ago and I pay about $65CAD every 6 months for routine maintenance. The most I’ll spend is just over $200 if brakes need “servicing” which involves cleaning them out. I had that done once so far for both cars. I also own an Infiniti QX80 which is still hanging around and garaged. I just drive that during the summer time. The maintenance costs for that are consistent with cars of that type which is okay too. Good luck and stay safe in 2021!
You can get regular maintenance, oil changes, exchange of brake fluid and transmission fluid, and filter at AAA, Goodyear, etc, for about 50% of the cost charged by the dealer. Fact. Same service at a huge savings.
Prepaid maintenance packages is a deal, I have found the dealership to be a bit expensive honestly but the complete inspection and just in depth inspection they do is worth my peace of mind
I would say the fuel and oil additives and remote battery change were not necessary. It seems like they added those to keep service A on a certain price bracket.
oil additives are actually necessary on mercedes’ benz especially on the c300 7th generation since they’re prone to cracking at slow speeds due to high pressure
Its the labor cost at Mercedes Benz dealerships that get you. I use to go to the dealership to get my car worked on until I found out that it was 240$ an hr for labor. Now i go to my local European specialized mechanic which only charges 100$ an hour. Also, if its easy I will try to do the maintenance myself to save.
Never go to the dealer. Find an independent MB specialist in your area and go thru them. I've never paid over $400 for a 10,000 mile checkup. Actually less than half of that. I've owned a 2016 CLA 250, a 2016 C300 and now a 2008 S550. My go to spot is German Motors here in Denver CO.
What I paid was in Canadian dollars. I could have gotten a very reasonable 3 service package for $1199 but I decided not to so I can share my experience without the prepaid maintenance
This is the reason why I never go to a dealership to get any type of service done I do it myself or if I don’t have the time I go to my mechanic that is not a dealership
So I just bought a 2020 C-class, and when I have it in Sport+ mode it up shifts perfectly, but when I put my foot on the brake it downshifts pretty hard, NOT EXTREMELY HARD, but just enough to the point where I can feel it
I was a bit worried about that too but I bought a preowned 2015 one at 30k miles, and I’m now at almost 70k in just a bit over a year later. Excellent car all around- some minor quality control issues: peeling “chrome” accenting in center console, door handle outer lights failed, and panoramic sunroof got jammed (cost $2.5k to fix!). When things do break they aren’t cheap and often can only be fixed by a dealer. It does feel like a solid car though, I’d just leave some money aside for possible repairs.
