I'm 72 years old and thought that my bike-riding days were over. Now with an e-bike, I can ride around my home, and enjoy some easy desert trails that I thought were no longer possible. If ever called a "cheater," I'd like to stop an explain my situation (which I'm sure many people my age share). I was an avid mountain biker 30 years ago with lots of hours spent on trail maintenance. Life's short so let's all get out there and enjoy it!
Very well said!! For those of us over 50 or so and especially people like my wife whose had a hip replacement, ebikes are a real blessing to keep us out and enjoying life! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts😁
Hell I'm 50 I tried riding a bike the other I gave it to the first person I saw lol e bikes eucs and electric skateboards open up a new level of freedom for us folks who are getting older ,good for you brother ride on !!!
Ebikes are bicycles if they are less than 750 (1hp) by the 2002 amendment to PUBLIC LAW 309.107 . And it specifically says no state or local law can be more STRINGENT . 20 miles an hour is the max allowed to be a regualted as a BICYCLE. and if the seat is less than 25 inches from the ground it is deemed a "sidewalk" vehicle and it is exempt from the safety regulations. This is how I interpret the law as I read it.
Wife is 59 knee replacement I’m 62 full ankle replacement we can still ride regular bikes and have a tandem using it weekly now with the lectric 2.0 we ride more and for those people who don’t know we pedal a lot still get a great workout so if you are thinking about it don’t wait but do your research happy riding!
Hi Hoppy and thanks for stopping by! I couldn’t agree more. Bad knee for me and hip replacement for my wife. We can still ride regular bikes but these ebikes let us enjoy longer rides and enjoy more scenery for sure!
For over 50 years I have been cycle touring, riding and camping on some multi month trips from the Pacific to Atlantic Oceans, I now have a Cube Kathmandu EXC E-Bike (need it after Heart surgery for touring). To ride a bike is a privilege on our public roads. during your ride you rode on sidewalks forcing a lady onto the road, you rode against traffic flow, you rode through Stop signs. If you were in a car you would be a poor man with the number of traffic tickets you would receive in a short period of time. The trail you spoke of in Tuscan Arizona is the 131 mile LOOP trail around the city, you are allowed to ride the 55 miles within the city limits with an E-bike Within the PUMA County section you can not ride an E-bike, HOWEVER under the American's with Disabilities Act if you medically require assistance you are allowed to ride your e-bike on the complete LOOP. All they ask is for you to carry documentation to prove you require the assistance with your disability. Myself even though I ride a bike 50 miles a day, I require the electric assistance to protect my heart from stress., so I meet the requirements.
Hi Brian! I’m sorry my riding offended you. That’s just how bikers ride around here. We are allowed rolling stops at stop signs as long as no cars are coming and because we are riding slowly it’s easy to see if any are coming through. Also, the lady you mentioned told me to ride through. I was keeping my distance behind her until she told me to come through. That didn’t pick up on the video but you could her me thanking her as I went by. That road is very narrow and downhill and makes it dangerous to ride on the road with cars so that’s why I was staying on the sidewalk. But I hear what you are saying and will try to explain more during my rides. But thank you for the information on the Arizona bike trail that I was talking about. There were quite a few people that had questions about it so they can see your info on it as well. Have a great weekend and good riding😃
I actually called the local parks department and asked about one of those no Motorized vehicles signs. He said those signs were put up years ago before things like ebikes and escooters even existed. They were intended to keep things like mopeds and motor scooters off the trail. Honestly the obvious solution here is to just post rules and enforce them on the trails. Most cars can drive 100+ mph, yet they're not banned from driving in 25 mile zones. Why? Because just because they CAN go 100 doesn't mean they have to. If people drive sensibly there's no reason to ban them. That being said, a 25 year old on a Sur Ron is much more likely to be hassled by the cops than a 59 year old on an escooter like me. It's just the nature of the beast.
Hi Dave and thanks for the information! What you found out makes a lot of sense. I’ve always felt that if you ride with good judgment you’ll be ok. I really appreciate your comment!😁
I get asked about mine a lot. Everybody says they're thinking about getting one. I tell them I lost riding all last summer because I was thinking. Just go get one, you'll love it!!
I say very similar things when I’m stopped. I think price is the biggest road block around here. I never thought I’d spend $200 on a bike until I got my Lectric. Once I got it I couldn’t believe I waited that long!😂
Hi Don and thanks for the information! That goes to show that as long as ebikers ride with some sense, nobody will mess with them in most cases. Most of the time you can’t tell how many watts the motors are anyway. I’ve seen regular bikers riding recklessly so it shouldn’t matter if you have an assisted bike or not as long as you are riding responsibly.
Absolutely right…I couldn’t remember the city while I was riding. Someone messaged me that they emailed them about the ebike restriction and told them that they’d have to vacation elsewhere. The reply was…enjoy your vacation somewhere else! Crazy way to respond if you ask me.
Over here at the empire state trail in new york no ebikes or motor vehicles too. I juzt went last week first time on the trail up the hill i used the trottle but i pedal most of the way but i see so many ebikes on the trail peddling or using throttle low speed so im doing that and if they stop me i just said i have it off and pedaling.
Hi pangeria…thanks for stopping by the channel!! Thanks for your comment. I agree that as long as you ride as if you are on a regular bike, I don’t think anyone will mess with you. The cops in this video you commented on were impressed with them and commented that they needed to get some. I found out that e-bikes are allowed on any trail regular bikes are allowed on as long as the trail does not specifically outlaw e-bikes. But the cops told me that motorized vehicles mentioned on the signs were meant for gas powered engines that are capable of much faster speeds. The funny thing is that regular bikes often pass me on trails so I don’t know why they would be so worried about e-bikes.
When it comes to electric bikes in parks, I did some searching around and found the policy for the national parks. It says that if you ride an electric bike on the trails, only class 1 ebikes are allowed. That doesn't make a lot of sense because I have a class 2 ebike (Aventon Aventure) and the only difference I can tell is that what sets both classes apart is that the class 2 ebikes have a throttle control. Both provide a pedal assist up to 20 mph, so why not allow class 2 ebikes as well? As for an increase in popularity with ebikes, I am slowly starting to see more of them where I live in Maine. I saw a guy riding a Super 73 ebike the last time I was out for a ride. One reason why I bought an ebike myself was all the hills in the area in which I live. In years past, I would have to strain myself to push my bike up the hill and that just took all the fun out of bike riding for me. Often I would stop to walk my bike uphill. With my new electric bike, the powerful 750 watt motor it has allows me to ride up hills much more easily. It's brought back the fun I used to experience on a bike when I was younger.
@GrnArrow092 Thanks for the information about the national parks. I hadn't heard that only class 1 could ride there. I strongly agree with you...class 2 is basically the same and only adds a throttle. Both go the same speed so I don't see why it would matter if you are peddling or not. Maybe they should just post a speed limit for all bikes as I've been passed by manual bikes quite often. Putting restrictions on ebikes really only hurts law abiding citizens and those that need a little extra help on occasion that otherwise would keep them in the house. In my state, I believe the restriction is on the size of the motor which the law states 500Watts and under are fine for all trails/roads that regular bikes are allowed to travel. I was actually on my 750 watt Rattan when the cops stopped to talk to us and they never even asked me about that. We just try to blend in as best as we can and try not to draw attention to ourselves and we have never had any problem. Thanks for stopping by and sharing with us! 😀
Aostirmotor a20 folding ebike 25 MPH, on eBay, for$739 is the lowest up to 799 without tax. I have one 80 nm of tourq I hit 27 when it's fully charged.
Good to know Mr Perry!! Also good because our states are neighbors 😎 WV is good for ebikes too but mainly on our rails to trails routes if you’re lucky enough to be close to some. Because of our mountains and old roads, there isn’t much room for bikes of any kind. Huntington and other flat towns are good though.
It looks like it was great day for a ride. Enjoyed it. It's been too hot in Oklahoma to ride much and we have alot of construction road work going on. Hope to get out soon. Yall take care.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm also glad to hear that you have seen some more areas to ride. We need to get you off that hill so you can get some riding in! 😎
Me too…I was the only one last year but I’m starting to see more and more lately. I’d say the $ is the only thing holding most people here back from buying one. It’s kind of a luxury item now but hopefully that market will open up so more can enjoy them.
I can't figure out the reasoning that Tucson has on not allowing Ebike s on their trail. Phoenix and Maricopa County no problem. Glad you got out for a ride. 😎
ExtremeFight said that he emailed them and they told him to vacation elsewhere!! Can you believe that?? Makes me feel privileged that I live in a state where the politicians rule by the will of the people.

Hi Gene! I have the 1.0 but it sounds like they are very comparable. I have ridden 25 or 26 miles using peddle assist 1 and 2 and still had battery left for a few more miles. I’ve never actually run the battery totally down though to see what the final number was.
Hello there. It's 95 here & I can't take the heat. I found out diabetes does stuff that doctors don't mention to you. . I can't take hot weather. I almost passed out before I could get to my Jeep to get the a/c on. The house was too far.

We are doing fine. It’s either been too hot or to rainy lately. When the weather is finally ok I have had things around the house to do like yard work and stuff. Hope to get back out soon.
I figure we all get stopped for questions. I’ve only been out a few times where I didn’t get asked about my bike. And that was because there weren’t many people out. Luckily, I don’t think I’ve ever been yelled at by another biker but it might be because I look like a Sasquatch coming down the trail and they are stunned!🤣
Yes it’s crazy! Ebikes are really the least of the worries. Full human powered bikes can go as fast or faster than most ebikes anyway. I heard from a sharif that the “motor powered vehicles” signs were put up before ebikes were a thing and were meant for gas powered engines.
