What some folks don't realize is this song encompasses the struggles of soca music and putting aside their differences for the betterment of our culture. Ultimate rejects has nothing to do with this. This isn't a competition to see who is better. Their legacy is set in stone. This aint no see who is better than who. who winning road march. They could not have done a power tune just yet. burying the hatchet is one thing. But one didn't over power the other. They sound very comfortable in the song. Anybody who thumbs down this tune don't really understand the importance and tone if this song. The lyrics and the vibe. We all want a power soca tune but this track was not for that kind of vibe. I am sure we'll get the pace in future collaborations between the two guys. As people we need to mature and grow and I applaud both men for taking that step. #bigmanthing.

For those who believe this song is based on a Grenadian Jab Jab vibe it is not.
This song is based on traditional T&T jouvert and kalinda/stick-fighting vibes.
Also it should be noted that Jab Jab mas just like kalinda music and stick-fighting has been present in T&T carnival culture since the days of Canboulay even before slavery was abolished in the English colonies so jab jab is not just a Grenadian thing. Grenadians have simply specialised in playing Jab Jab mas while in T&T jouvert and ole mas we have traditionally had more of variety of scary carnival characters including jab jab, jab molassie. bats, dragons, etc.
A lot of our T&T Rapso music is also based on this sort of haunting jouvert vibes style that evolved from the rhythms popularly heard during jouvert fused with the lyrical tradition of the midnight robber who would spew rapid and impressive lyrics about defeating his carnival opponents and many times would tell stories about defeats he has inflicted on the most powerful leaders around the world. The midnight robber is probably the world's first speed rapper!!

Being of a certain age I can state categorically that Trinidad "Jab Jab" (Diab, Diab) music has been around for as long as I can remember. With that said, not much distance should be placed between historical Grenadian and Trinidadian culture for reasons I'm sure you are aware.
@Danny Colossus: Unfortunately the Grenadians have been promoting misinformation that Jab Jab mas was started by and is unique to them and that it was brought to Trinidad around 1795 by the French Creole slave owners who fled from Grenada to Trinidad (see link: culture.gd/index.php/oc/festivities/traditional-mas which states that Jab Jab is uniquely Grenadian which is not true).
The Grenadians have also been confusing Jab Jab mas with Jab Molassie mas when they are two distinctively different Devil mas characters.
The truth of the matter is that the French plantation owners who came from Grenada to Trinidad did not play Devil mas or Jab Jab mas in their elaborate and expensive masquerade balls nor are there any records of Jab Jab mas being played outside of Trinidad before those characters were developed by ex-slaves as part of the Canboulay celebrations in Trinidad.
The fact that both Jab Jab and Jab Molassie mas were developed as two different Devil mas characters in the Canboulay celebrations in Trinidad is evidenced by the fact that the Grenadians don't seem to understand that they are two different Devil mas characters and as a result they have been mislabelling Jab Molassie mas as Jab Jab mas.
Jab Jab is really a Devil character with a whip who mocked the plantation overseer who whipped the slaves. Also being a former slave mimicking the overseer, Jab Jabs were meant to be immune to pain which they demonstrated by engaging in whip battles with other Jab Jabs who they encountered on the streets on carnival day. A Jab Jab costume makes him look like a medieval European jester - two-coloured shirt with points at the waist, decorated with bells, mirrors, and rhinestones; a cape; a hood, sometimes with horns; stockings on his legs. But this clownish gear disguises a fierce warrior who carries a thick whip, ready to use in battle against any other jab jabs he may encounter. In the old days, the jab jab would usually wear an iron pot under his hood to protect him in battle from his opponent’s whip. He showed off his battle-readiness with chants about his ferocity and his resistance to civil society.
What the Grenadians refer to as Jab Jab is basically not Jab Jab mas but a version or derivative of Jab Molassie mas.
Jab molassie means “molasses devil” in French patois and is one of the oldest Carnival characters, possibly dating back to the days of slavery. He represents the ghost of a slave who met his death by falling into a vat of boiling molasses in a sugar factory.
The jab molassie’s costume is nothing more than a pair of pants cut off at the knee, and a thick coat originally of molasses and later of tar, oil, or grease, all over his body, including face and hair. He often sports a tail and horns and carries a pitchfork. As he dances and gyrates wildly through the streets, to the sound of drumming on a pitch-oil tin, he runs after children, terrifying them until their parents hand over money.
A similar derivative character which became popular in Paramin Village in Trinidad is the blue devil, dressed much like a jab molassie but instead with a coat of bright blue paint as molassies became harder to get hold of with the decline of the sugar cane industry in Trinidad.

Not sure bout any other Afro Trinidadian but this song have always done something to my soul. It gives a sense of pride. Not only being Trinidadian but being African and knowing how powerful we are and what our major contribution has been to make Carnival what it is.....We started the phenomenon 💗💗💗
