Got one of these. Definitely has its flaws, but at 107,000 miles, she's still ticking along smooth and strong. Had to change the AC compressor. If you don't keep up with maintenance though it's real easy to kill the engine.

I bought a 2012 Cruze this morning with 196k miles. It has a fully overhauled engine, new turbo and new gaskets all around. I spend 3 hours cleaning it with a DIY cleaning solution. What a difference. The interior looks great now. Tomorrow is oil-change day. I was amazed to get 45-50 mpg on flat land at 58-59 mph. So far I am loving this and I am trying to learn as much as I can about the Cruze. This is my daughter's first official car.

I’ve driven my 2014 Chevy Cruze for the last 6 years. I’m a Chevy dealer technician so I do the work myself with all of GM’s bulletins, engineering information, and service information at my disposal. Never broken down or had serious issues, just oil/coolant leaks and preventive maintenance. Front crank oil seal, valve cover, and intake manifold (pcv valve internal to manifold failure causes front seal and valve cover diaphragm to blow out), oil cooler seals (cooler is fully serviceable), camshaft actuator solenoid seals, front cover gasket, oil pan reseal (sealant) were all oil leaks that I fixed. Coolant reservoir, both turbo coolant pipes (replace both at the same time), water pump, water outlet housing (what this guy called the thermostat housing-he’s wrong, thermostat attaches to the after pump), and coolant reservoir all leaked coolant, all fixed.
No suspension, no brakes (yet), no AC, no mechanical engine or transmission failure. The Cruze can be a great car if you are good to it. I’ll take this thing across the country and back with no worries!

It won't go over 25 and is giving transmission control module warnings, power steering and-code u0101. I can't drive it and even if I tried, the speed limit anyway I go is 55mph for 20 minutes basically the whole way from my home. I have to get it fixed asap. As of right now I have no way to work so I'm not working. I have a daughter to take care of. I have to figure this out. Does anyone know how to fix it quickly? Hello, thanks, for this helpful video for getting a gist of concerns to take into consideration while in custody of a Cruze. Having an intermittant stall issue, and coolant was level was low. While it was hot, I removed the coolant resevoir cap. With each rotation of the cap, coolant started bubbling. The coolant level decreased proportionately, as the air bubbles escaped. The resevoir was refilled with a 50/50 mixture of OEM coolant and distilled water. Stalling persisted, so two weeks later double checked oil level because the engine oil monitor indicated 55% remaining, but it was reading the level in the oil pan instead of the level indicated from the oil dipstick. Two quarts of oil was added to the engine.

    @timrisch4540 2 года назад +6

Have a sonic with the same 1.4L engine. Agree with several of the items you pointed out. Another problem is the diaphragm on the top of the valve cover. This 50-cent part is not replaceable so when it breaks (frequently) you, need to replace the whole cover. Also, early in the vehicle years when removing the spark plugs, if you tore the cheap 50-cent rubber boots, GM did not sell them separately so the only way to replace them was to buy a new $100+ coil pack. Aftermarket boots are now available.
Other than that, its been a good engine for me.

I bought a 2013 1.4L. I was told it had a blown head gasket. I ran a compression test. 110-50-70-90. It cranks, but no start. Cylinders 2&3 were very clean. I saw small droplets of coolant on top of the piston. When I check the oil, it looked relatively clean no milkshake. I was going to replace the head gasket, but the low compression has me concerned. I know with the blown head gasket you do lose compression, but isn’t that compression kind of low for a motor with only 115,000 miles? Engines around here are pretty expensive and most have more miles than mine. The previous owner had changed the Oil regularly and just did timing chain and water pump. I haven’t pulled the head yet to put a straight edge or check it for cracks. The cylinder walls look good. I added a little oil to each cylinder to check the rings. No blowby.

I think a lot of people buy these expecting them to be Camrys and Corollas. They're not. You can't neglect regular maintenance, and you can't give them hell. You HAVE to baby them to get extended use out of them, and you need to be either good at fixing cars or have enough money to spend on repairs, because you WILL have to fix stuff. Even the most vociferous Cruze defenders will give you a laundry list of things they've had to fix. People who say they've never had any issues are very much the exception, not the rule.
I've gotten okay mileage out of mine, but if I wasn't decent at turning a wrench I'd have sunk thousands of dollars into repairs.

Agree - These things aren't terrible cars "for the right type of owners". My Chevy Cruze has been a decent car "for me" but for someone else who gets all bent out of shape when a light bulb burns out or the tire pressure light pops on the dash, this wouldn't be a good fit for them.

I had a couple issues with the cruze mine is a 2ltr turbo charged diesel engine which is amazing regarding the power delivery anb all but recently my cruze went on limb mode and thought it might be the output speed sensor fixed it but turns out that it’s not the problem and my mechanic told it will be a gearbox issue and i have repaired my transmission which is on the way rn. So please let me know any face similar issues! Much appreciated and amazing video

Ok. Here’s my issue. I have a 2014 Cruze 1.4 turbo. I have smoke coming from the exhaust. Now it really only happens when I first take off and stop and go traffic (not all the time). I have replaced the valve cover, the turbo oil line and one other on the passenger side of the engine. I believe it’s called a camshaft position actuator solenoid valve. Fresh oil change. Coil pack has been replaced also. It seems like it’s lacking power from when I first got it so I’m wondering if the turbo is leaking or going bad. My brother is a mechanic in the Army thinks it could be it. Could you please give me any kind of help or advice? I’m really stressing about this and you seem to know what your talking about. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I can't believe you have to change the engine in a 2015. I had a 2012 focus with a manual trans and the thing was dead reliable. Sold it last year with 120k miles in that whole time all it needed was a $300 cat.

The issue with these cars is if they overheat at all they can get ruined. They operate at 220°F with the turbo and once coolant drops out that turbo heat raises the temp fast fast. Dumb people keep driving until it's dead. This is mostly a stupid people issue rather than the car.

@@subarulegacy4203 This is true however In the dash readout it will show you the exact temp the sensors or putting out. 300k and still accurate. In these cars if you go past halfway temp at all whatsoever you are overheating. Seems pretty simple to figure out to me.

That's why I always say that turbo goes into race cars and diesel engines, not to family cars with small petrol engines. I have cruze with 1.8 N/A engine, after 6 years of ownership and some 135.000 miles overall, engine still runs fine, still doesn't burn oil and didn't had any of problems you mention. All I replaced was a throttle body sensor, 2nd oxygen sensor, crankshaft seal and was sealing oil pan. In terms of reliability, it can comfortably go head to head with any german or japanese, common 4 cylinder engines.

My son purchased a 2011 Cruze LTZ w/ RS package brand new It was the
worst piece of garbage I had ever seen. From day 1 ownership, it spent
more time at Elkins Chevrolet then him driving it. It was a good thing
that the vehicle was covered by a GMPP for 6 yrs/100k miles. My son
drove that boat anchor for close to 6 yrs and finally traded it in for a
2017 Subaru Impreza also brand new. Since he has had the Subaru it has
not been in for repair beyond regular maintenance. The boat anchor
