It's almost like that guy with expressive aphasia who can only say "tono." There's a video about him on here. The interviewer asks him questions, and he earnestly answers, but he just says, "Tono tono tono tono. Tono tono tono tono tono tono."
Easy to forget because we see him on a Video Game Playing show every day that he doesn't play video games much on his own time, and his only real experiences with Pokémon games has been on Game Grumps a decade and a half ago.
@SakuraAvalon Dan's in the show as a comedic first and foremost, and often really doesn't pay attention to the game. His job is to keep the bits going, when Arin is preoccupied with keeping the game going. Also, attention span, from being tired and whatever else is going on. I grew up with Pokémon, and I as well forgot it was a team battle, even when it was announced as such
The Marshmallow Test has actually been debunked as a predictor of patience in children; longitudinal studies failed to find a correlation between the ability for study participants to wait for a second marshmallow, and their success in future life. What the study actually shows is whether children come from an unstable or deprived environment; a child who has learned to mistrust adults, or not to rely on future security, will sensibly scoff down the first marshmallow, because they know the experimenters could be lying about bringing another one
I mean I would certainly hope it failed to find a correlation with success in future life considering that's not something it was ever meant to test. The only thing it was ever *supposed* to test is how far a kid's reasoning skills have developed, and whether they can *understand* the concept of denying themselves a small reward now in exchange for a bigger reward later, not their patience.
@OmegaGamer1989 You're right, but in this case it's a worthwhile caveat for OP to make because I remember publicity around the experiment that was claiming to have found (or be looking for) a link to metrics as disparate as SAT scores. The scientists conducting the test probably knew better, but sometimes the transmission of that science to the public misses the point.
@josephtibbs2586 Makes me think of that study that was trying to find when the brain was "fully developed," where the study ended after age 25... but not because they had discovered a clear developmental "stopping point" at age 25. It only ended because that was the point when their funding ran out. Then people who didn't know that they'd just run out of funding assumed otherwise, so now we have the widespread misconception that "our brains aren't fully developed until age 25."
@OmegaGamer1989 But that doesn't dispute what the OP said. The study wasn't a good way to test if a kid had developed an understanding of denying yourself for greater reward, it actually tested if a kid came from a wealthy/stable home or not. Because, again, the kids more likely to eat the first marshmallow weren't eating it because they didn't understand the concept of denying yourself instant gratification, they were eating it because they had learned they shouldn't rely entirely on what a grown up says and they were more likely to think the researchers were lying.
I honestly hope they give up at that point. He's awful at this and It's not even a true Nuzlocke since he just chooses what he catches each route anyway. I basically just have this on in the background for their banter, but the gameplay is atrocious.
@Cetran there's nothing saying that choosing your single pokemon per area disqualifies it as a nuzlocke. The challenge has had its rules tweaked and added to by plenty of different people. Some people even ban themselves from using items in combat. It's a self imposed challenge, so they're the ones imposing the rules if you like. If you don't like it, it's as simple as not watching.
@CetranI get that, I do, especially as someone who has been big on nuzlockes since, well, they first were a thing. I'm trying hard to not get irked by anything lol. He's just playing to play and challenge himself and it rlly isn't that serious at the end of the day. I do like popping these in the bg though, while I draw.
@MoshWithEzra With Arin's love for Onix and stat moves, I legitimately think he can handle Purugly if he just has Onix sit there and Screech for a bit before switching out to physical attacker. At least that's the Hopium I'm huffing
@krizerosHonestly haven’t watched the Grumps in years but have been subscribed since its inception as I was fan of Egoraptor. Having a new Pokémon series brings me back to simpler times watching them navigate through Fire Red. 😅
@CreepyJournalssame! I watch a lot of their Zelda and Pokemon stuff, and then hella compilations, but outside of that and sometimes 10MPH, I rlly haven't watched them in ages... But Arin himself I've known for so damn long as Egoraptor. It's so nice seeing them playing Pokemon again.
I don't think he wanted it for teleport, but just the fact he wants Kadabra. There's a number of things like that he probably hasn't paid attention to like the type matchups
@LordPichuPalI’m mainly referring to the fact he actively risks losing a Pokemon by walking all the way back lol, but you’re right about that too. If he gets far enough Fantina’s mismagius is going to tear him to shreds.
this weekend i just moved out of my parent's house, across the country, and have been binging this series in the background as i take care of things around my new apartment to help me feel less alone. i've been watching game grumps for something like 11-12 years now and it's always been a source of comfort for me - on sick days, on days i really need to laugh, and now as i'm struggling with homesickness. super grateful for dan & arin continuing to do the show for so long so there's always something new to dive into when i need it ❤️
17:57 every time cel animation and collecting cels comes up, I remember Ross saying (in some Steam Train episode from long long ago) that the reason original cels from _The Secret of NIMH_ are so hard to come by on the secondary market or in museums was because most of them were in a trunk in his attic. (For context, iirc Ross' wife at the time - they're not together anymore - is the granddaughter of one of the lead animators from that film)
Add this to the list of Arin gaslighting Dan when they were looking at the list of accessories. Dan and Arin are correct that both Googly and Gorgeous were on the accessories list bought with berries. 😂😂😂
Dan: So, what does Teleport do exactly? Arin: It teleports you out of wild pokemon battles, which sucks and is not useful at all. Dan: Ah, I see.. Arin: Oh right, I forgot that if you're outside of battle, it teleports you directly to a Pokémon center. Dan: .... Arin.
"I love playing games where I just don't play them" Arin said sarcastically while the two lets plays of him watching cards flip for 2 hours looms in my suggestions
The marshmallow experiment was drilled into my brain in university. I've watched the video at least twenty times for school alone. My absolute favourite, is a little kid who flips it over, hollows the inside out, and sets it back down as though nothing happened and it looks like a perfect marshmallow. That child was a genius.
I feel like Arin not catching any mons on any of the new routes this episode is gonna come back to bite him in the ass when his party is wiped without any backup pokemon.
Mars is going to be fun. Arin also really needs to be reminded that he has a Ponyta in the box that's strong to the majority of the pokemon appearing in the next like three episodes
Ive got a terrible feeling Arin is going to go stampeding blindly into the commander Mars fight, with no knowledge of how dangerous that Purugly is in Nuzlockes, and pay the price for it like Roark.
Knowing Dan, if they ever manage to capture more Pokémon, I just want one of them out of all the different variations of turtwig names to just be,”Steve”.
37:22 Both gorgeous and googly were present. Poor Dan, half the time he doesn't understand what's going on, but then the other half he talks himself out of it.
21:25 funnily enough there’s a fantastic video essay about Black Cauldron by Breadsword on here! really cool deep dive into it, plus they have a bunch of other great vids to check out!
20:20 hearing dan gush about black cauldron is sooo gratifying, it was my absolute favourite movie growing up, but I never heard anyone talking about it
well yeah its because onix sucks ass his base attack stat is 45 which is the same attack stat as butterfree and its lower than wismurs. and arin cant even evolve it becuase it evolves by trade and hes using a emulator. a geodude even though you couldn't get golem would still be better than a onix
@minutemadehaterWell...technically he could evolve it using other methods, but I honestly doubt Arin would even know about thinks like PKHex or changing the evo method to level based via the randomizer.
I always somehow forget that Arin was the origin of the "your angle or your devil" meme, and it's just as delightful now as it was when I first found out 😂
Grumplock Name generator. Find out your name for when Arin gets you killed! 23:15 fun fact, Arin says this every time The Black Cauldron is brought up. Someone on patreon asked about it and as Dan was listing the characters he made the exact same comment
As an Oregonian, the State of Jefferson movement is a far right thing. There's also some in the eastern half of Oregon that want to become part of Idaho. But the thing is, the majority of the population isn't in these places, so they're not being like, actively disenfranchised. It's just how representational governance works. It wouldn't sway local/state level elections, but boy howdy it would sway national ones, which is the point. They usually want a far right federal gov installed, and one that is white/Christian nationalist (and hell they didn't need an extra state to do that in 2016 or 2024.) They're the minority, and a highly radicalized, violent, and overall racist/xenophobic minority at that. A lot of them are militia types. Arin's really gotta start reading more than just the first paragraph of a Wikipedia article before he talks about stuff on the show.
You do realize that the short-sighted ignorance you rightfully decry is exactly how right-wing people feel about your views on them? This show doesn't really have anything political about it so maybe this isn't the place for such a comment. God knows politics inundate our lives enough as it is.
Hearing Dan's appreciation for the black cauldron really makes me happy! The film has so much Welsh influence, so it's always been a favourite of mine too.
Black Cauldron was one of my favourite movies growing up! The fact that Eilonwy isn't considered a Disney Princess is one of Disney's greatest crimes. Learning about the production as an adult was really really interesting. There was so much love and effort poured into it, and you can really see it in the animation.
I’ve come around to it. It’s not a masterpiece, but it is far from Disney’s worst movie. Pretty sure that goes to Wish now. I love the look of the film, it’s what I imagine if Disney or Don Bluth ever animated a Legend of Zelda film.
@cmrobbins88 I feel like Black Couldron had its "this box office bomb is good actually!" moment a while ago. I'd imagine most people would at least rank it over Chicken Little. Or the one about singing cows. Or Wish, nowadays.
@EmperorSeth yeah objectively it is far from the worst Disney film since it has a similar depth and tone as The Last Unicorn or Secret of Nimh. A lot of audiences just can’t handle dark shit. If you want the worst 2D Disney film Home on the Range is by far the most underwhelming. It’s essentially comedian shilling and fart jokes even though the animation is gorgeous.
As an Oregonian, I’m afraid Jefferson would just become sundown town central. Also, if I’m not mistaken, it’s also a lot of eastern Oregon and would include Idaho.
Yeah I'm an Oregonian too and I was SHOCKED to hear them talk so casually about the Jefferson movement. It's just far right white nationalist bs nobody should be talking about it like it could/should happen
Frankly, that experiment did more to prove that some kids will do things BECAUSE you told them not to, rather than that higher intelligence equates to an ability to accept delayed gratification (I don't even fuckin like uncooked marshmallows, but if someone told me not to eat one and then walked out of the room, that nasty thing is going INTO my mouth and stomach the moment they can't see me, and I'm not even a child anymore)
I feel like I'd eat the marshmallow just because I have nothing else to do and am alone in a room. I don't see what the point of leaving is. Should it just be straight up asking them if they want a marshmallow now or wait for two, and then spend that waiting time just chatting with them or something? That would tell you all you need to know, I feel.
Abra’s teleport is exclusively useful for fast traveling back to the last Pokémon center visited, and I was really surprised Arin didn’t remember or know that. Hopefully he learns about it and ends up falling in love with the move for super fast grinding strategies
Honestly I enjoyed the Braindead 13 playthrough. Also, Dan's love for Black Cauldron and the playthrough of it made me appreciate that movie more. So thank you for that, Dan :) EDIT: I wonder if they realize Valley Windworks is a "new place" to catch a pokemon
From Sweden Me and my little brother used to watch The black cauldron on VHS all the time as kids! It was one of our favorites. I've always loved Henwen and Gurgi. Hearing Dan talk about this movie makes me want to see it again. Maybe even watch it in English since we've only seen the dubbed version.
Fun Fact: "The Black Cauldron" is based on the first three-ish books of "The Chronicles of Prydain", a five-book children's high fantasy series based in Welsh mythology. The second book is called "The Black Cauldron" and deals with most of the plot elements in the movie, though the Horned King isn't the ultimate antagonist of the series. He's actually the general of another, greater villain, who's a powerful mage. And the reason the Horned King in the movie is suddenly moving toward the cauldron is both because of the wind flowing into it and the resonance the cauldron has with evil, since the power behind the cauldron is having the most evil king ever known sealed within it. It might've been better foreshadowed, but the red glow around the facade of the king on the cauldron is supposed to represent this.
Hearing Arin mashing the fuck out of the A button throughout every single battle whenever there's even a fraction of a second that he's not in direct control is a special treat for us headphone users.
I keep hearing him mash through menus and any amount of dialogue where he isn't in control, even without headphones. It is crazy to me how someone can be that impatient and still try to do a Nuzlocke run or even any RPG like this.
34:33 I hope this doesn't go from blades of grass into blades of glass, but they're doing well so far! In a lot of nuzlockes the foundation is crazy to build, and then it's smooth(er) sailing after that.
32:54 Plus, all of the opening shots for the movie are in Estes Park, were the Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for the hotel in the Shining, is located. Come visit!
Listening to Dan talk about The Black Cauldron is like listening to someone describe what's going on in their dnd game. Like if you were there you know exactly what he's talking about and it's awesome but if you don't it absolutely sounds like made up gobbelty goop.
I actually enjoyed The Black Cauldron too, Dan. But I much prefer the novel series that came first. Lloyd Alexander based a lot of it on Welsh mythology, which is why one of the main parts is an oracular pig.
Arin recapping the names of his party sounds like someone having a stroke while attempting a tongue-twister.
Now this put a tickle in my pickle 😂
It's almost like that guy with expressive aphasia who can only say "tono." There's a video about him on here. The interviewer asks him questions, and he earnestly answers, but he just says, "Tono tono tono tono. Tono tono tono tono tono tono."
i just know his lungs are fighting for their lives
Its sort of hard to remember which pokemon he's talking about. They're no TruntSNACO.
Arin: "Titwig, Turtwyg, Tartwag ,Tuntwug, Turd Wig, and Tortworg"
Dan: "DUDE R YOU COOL?!"
Kudos to the editor for making use of the right side of the screen. I got a kick out of seeing that old PokeAwesome clip.
Right the nameless editor..
@Drizzle68editors
Dan asking halfway through the battle "that's not your piplup???" is masterful levels of not understanding anything that's going on
Easy to forget because we see him on a Video Game Playing show every day that he doesn't play video games much on his own time, and his only real experiences with Pokémon games has been on Game Grumps a decade and a half ago.
Yup thats our Dan
@godqueensadie What does that have to do with this? lol
@SakuraAvalon Dan's in the show as a comedic first and foremost, and often really doesn't pay attention to the game.
His job is to keep the bits going, when Arin is preoccupied with keeping the game going.
Also, attention span, from being tired and whatever else is going on.
I grew up with Pokémon, and I as well forgot it was a team battle, even when it was announced as such
@manarallego3745 That's not what they said.
Their comment was relating to his experience with gaming.
Not how he's oblivious to the games they play.
That was a pretty decent "Yeah Boi" i especially liked Dan's harmonizing near the end
I dont always like the video, but you bet I did when I heard this right here :p
It was kind of beautiful actually 🥲
The Marshmallow Test has actually been debunked as a predictor of patience in children; longitudinal studies failed to find a correlation between the ability for study participants to wait for a second marshmallow, and their success in future life. What the study actually shows is whether children come from an unstable or deprived environment; a child who has learned to mistrust adults, or not to rely on future security, will sensibly scoff down the first marshmallow, because they know the experimenters could be lying about bringing another one
Thaaaaaaank you!!!
Using the negative space for visual gags and putting up things to coincide with the boys is awesome, love the editing on these so far guys!!
I give it like 5 more episodes until the editor decides it’s too much work
@conormurphy4328negative nancy
@conormurphy4328I doubt it. An editor is often an editor bc they genuinely enjoy what they do. They probably have a bit of fun with it honestly
@kimberkanekiwhat naive optimism
@kimberkanekihave you watched game grumps at all throughout the years?
“And all you Feed me is Poffins. I need nourishment!” Such a good animation video.
Dan harmonizing the "Yea boi" was legitimately awesome lol
Arin not paying attention to what Bide does
can't wait to wipe to Mars next episode
It'd be rough for him, but it is possible to beat Mars' Purugly with brute force, even with bide
Knowing the grass gym is coming, and knowing Arin has absolutely forgotten he has a Ponyta, is the quintessential Grumps experience
I'm gonna explode. It's so frustrating. He was so excited to get it and immediately forgot it and started training Onyx instead
"I love games where I just...don't play them."
Bombastic side-eye at the This Ain't Poker videos.
Getting two episodes back to back of this series has. Unironically made me happier than I have in a while
@krizerosHonestly haven’t watched the Grumps in years but have been subscribed since its inception as I was fan of Egoraptor. Having a new Pokémon series brings me back to simpler times watching them navigate through Fire Red. 😅
That's good. Some good ol pokemon can heal ya
Way too fragile. Just end it.
@ahall9839How miserable in life are you 🥀
Arin walking into the PokéMart to buy an antidote instead of just taking 5 more steps into the Pokémon Center gave me an aneurysm.
He just wants to support local businesses, there's usually only one of them in every town!
@bigginzly3389Considering it's the only available shop in every town makes it sound more like a monopoly lmfao
*whispers* it grows the economy. Hurts nobody
Me while watching: Arin, what is this?
Arin fifteen seconds later: "Yeah for some reason my brain thought that was the pokémon center so I just bought the antidotes since I was there."
Grumplocke weekends are the best weekends and it's not close.
I notice you didnt say the weekend following the emancipation of african slaves in the United States, how curious
It truly makes me hate mondays even more than Garfield
The nervous, audible button smashing after the psyduck took a bunch of damage lol
Arin hanson: the man who desperately wanted the teleporting pokemon forgets it telepots DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HOSPITALS!
I was thinking the exact same thing. I swear I’m going to insane by the end of this playthrough
That's implying he knew in the first place...
He mentioned something im a previous episode that suggested he thinks it gets him out of caves, which it doesnt
this weekend i just moved out of my parent's house, across the country, and have been binging this series in the background as i take care of things around my new apartment to help me feel less alone. i've been watching game grumps for something like 11-12 years now and it's always been a source of comfort for me - on sick days, on days i really need to laugh, and now as i'm struggling with homesickness. super grateful for dan & arin continuing to do the show for so long so there's always something new to dive into when i need it ❤️
❤
Hey, stick with it. It can be tough moving to a new place where you don't know anyone, but you got this.
Heck Yeah, very relatable.
You got this!
I had a similar experience to you, for me I binged Mario Rpg. It was nostalgic when they released the compilation the other day😌
Arin playing a double battle, experiencing what Dan goes through when Arin has the wheel in Wheel of Fortune
So true
nah, he'd have to get a pokemon one shot, to TRULY get that dan experience...
I can't wait for the fat cat to rack up a killstreak lmao.
He’s gonna get so wrecked.
it is going to be so brutal lmao he has no clue
Mars, being named for the God of War, knows no such word as "mercy."
13:56 - Match of the millennium! Magikarp vs. Abra! Only one of these fierce competitors will leave the arena alive!
just LAST episode, Arin told Dan he was causing issues by singing too perfectly
and in this Episode, Dan has sung multiple times already lol
They're both very forgetful but we love them for that lol
17:57 every time cel animation and collecting cels comes up, I remember Ross saying (in some Steam Train episode from long long ago) that the reason original cels from _The Secret of NIMH_ are so hard to come by on the secondary market or in museums was because most of them were in a trunk in his attic.

Add this to the list of Arin gaslighting Dan when they were looking at the list of accessories. Dan and Arin are correct that both Googly and Gorgeous were on the accessories list bought with berries. 😂😂😂
44:55 Can't wait for Sbassbear to sample this and turn it into something brilliant
Most beautiful hym that’s ever been sung 😂
Dan: So, what does Teleport do exactly?
Arin: It teleports you out of wild pokemon battles, which sucks and is not useful at all.
Dan: Ah, I see..
Arin: Oh right, I forgot that if you're outside of battle, it teleports you directly to a Pokémon center.
Dan: .... Arin.
31:51 pachirisu is a world champion you put some respect on the name.
"I love playing games where I just don't play them" Arin said sarcastically while the two lets plays of him watching cards flip for 2 hours looms in my suggestions
Honestly that "its not poker ya joker" playthrough was actually pretty funny though. Dan hated it.
1: Arin is never coming back for those berries
2: Mars is taking at least 1 mon, if not a full wipe
I'm calling it now
Arin one episode ago: Dan, you can't sing anything or youtube will claim the video.
Dan this episode: Turn around bright eyes!
The marshmallow experiment also depends on the kid's trust of the person administering the experiment
Alright, lots of Stunky, Glameow, and Buizel up ahead. Abra is being trained. Let's hope there's no accidents with the move Pursuit.
Purrugly about to wreck the playthrough
26:15 A slice on your finger will heal faster, whereas a jagged wound will heal slower, prone to infection.
Dan's harmony during that yeah boi was nice
So excited for the return of Dans Harmony on the next Guest Grumps.
Mars is going to be fun. Arin also really needs to be reminded that he has a Ponyta in the box that's strong to the majority of the pokemon appearing in the next like three episodes
Arin with a voice of supreme authority - "Tackle is only like 80%"
Ive got a terrible feeling Arin is going to go stampeding blindly into the commander Mars fight, with no knowledge of how dangerous that Purugly is in Nuzlockes, and pay the price for it like Roark.
I like when Arin explains things like he knows what he's talking about when he clearly does not.
This series is an instant classic, so glad they didn't give up. I can't wait to see them go all the way to the champion!
Your very optimistic.
I would love to see him make it that far. I don't think he will, but I am rooting for him 😭
Ikr?! It'll be amazing to see him get to the champion! And then get there again! And then again... and again... and again...
@PrimeEnLightenedShadow Yeah, he might make it there by run 30+ Then yeah, decent chance he wipes the first few attempts.
Knowing Dan, if they ever manage to capture more Pokémon, I just want one of them out of all the different variations of turtwig names to just be,”Steve”.
Steven Gundam, if it would fit
I am getting tired of this bit honestly
Fart Corner 😂
I'm crossing my fingers for a "twatwag"
@leavemealone802It was tired after the first episode
37:22 Both gorgeous and googly were present.
Poor Dan, half the time he doesn't understand what's going on, but then the other half he talks himself out of it.
Anyone who says a sharper knife is more dangerous to use in the kitchen deserves whatever gross uneven wounds they get
Haha joke’s on you, I chop my food with DRINKING STRAWS
Arin mashing the A button constantly in pokemon games gives me so much anxiety
I used to do that too, makes you feel like the time is passing faster lmao
21:25 funnily enough there’s a fantastic video essay about Black Cauldron by Breadsword on here! really cool deep dive into it, plus they have a bunch of other great vids to check out!
Dan 'benching' Arin from jokes is one of my favorite things.
Whenever Arin uses Rock Smash, I imagine him picking up Turtwyg by the tail and just full on slapping it against the rocks
8:50 awesome editing
Soooo we're all in agreement that Arin is going to lose his Abra to a Glameow using Pursuit, right?
I think the chances are pretty low considering glameow doesn't learn pursuit
You're thinking of Fursuit
@dracoshield2344 Damn you right. I was certain they did lol. Purugly neither : P
Buizel, though…
20:20 hearing dan gush about black cauldron is sooo gratifying, it was my absolute favourite movie growing up, but I never heard anyone talking about it
The Shining was inspired by The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado, after Stephen King stayed there in the '70s
was just thinking about this when they mentioned it
yo honestly the harmonization on that yeah boi was sick as hell
I need more discussions on animated films... I loved hearing them talk about The Black Cauldron as an avid animated movie fan.
enthralled by dan's vocalization at the end
The beginning of this episode reminds me of the Monty Python Inquisition bit where he keeps having to update their weaponry and start the list over.
Be patient everyone, Mars is happening soon
Lol there’s absolutely no chance Arin doesn’t wipe to purugly
So ready for attempt 3 lmfao-
@potitishogun2961997isn't this already attempt 4? 😭
@D3viant517he has an onix tho, he'll stand a better chance than you think
They’re losing at least 2 party members
I respect Dan for loving The Black Cauldron. Was one of my favorites as a kid, and I never know anyone else who's even read the books.
Nanab berry: "GRANDMA!"
18:18 a big reason is because a sharp knife is more predictable if you always work with a sharp knife you always know how it's going to act
Arin episode 2: Onix is so good dude!
Onix episode 8: Rock throw can't kill Wurmple
Super effective rock throw on -2 kricketot got me
@MichaelSotoCE STAB super effective rock throw on the -2 kricketot at that.
well yeah its because onix sucks ass his base attack stat is 45 which is the same attack stat as butterfree and its lower than wismurs. and arin cant even evolve it becuase it evolves by trade and hes using a emulator. a geodude even though you couldn't get golem would still be better than a onix
@minutemadehaterWell...technically he could evolve it using other methods, but I honestly doubt Arin would even know about thinks like PKHex or changing the evo method to level based via the randomizer.
34:48 I hear nurse Joy knows how to perfectly poach a pokeball 😅😂
Dan harmonizing with the worlds longest YEAH BOI completely unprompted ended up producing the most pleasant sound. Wow
curious that the GG's smash or pass came up as a recommended video after this one ended. i wonder why 🤔 (43:00)
12:44 Can someone please animate a trainer losing to "Existence Shuffle"??
26:50 What he is trying to say is that a sharper knife wont slide off the thing your are chopping, cuz it has more bite to it.
I always somehow forget that Arin was the origin of the "your angle or your devil" meme, and it's just as delightful now as it was when I first found out 😂

23:15 fun fact, Arin says this every time The Black Cauldron is brought up. Someone on patreon asked about it and as Dan was listing the characters he made the exact same comment
Lunchtime is Grumplocke time
23:05 dying in a waiting room trying not to laugh at Arin’s response lol
Arin being a state of Jefferson guy was not in my 2026 bingo card
As an Oregonian, I’m afraid Jefferson would just become sundown town central. Also, if I’m not mistaken, it’s also a lot of eastern Oregon and would include Idaho.
Yeah I'm an Oregonian too and I was SHOCKED to hear them talk so casually about the Jefferson movement. It's just far right white nationalist bs nobody should be talking about it like it could/should happen
08:45 what a callback!!! feels like only a few weeks ago
That "Yeah Boy" was glorious.
That "Yeah Boi" harmonization was fantastic
We all know Arin would eat that marshmallow 14 seconds after the adult left.
I imagine I would be a weird outlier on the test, since I don't like marshmallows.
That harmonization at the end was perfect.
Abra’s teleport is exclusively useful for fast traveling back to the last Pokémon center visited, and I was really surprised Arin didn’t remember or know that. Hopefully he learns about it and ends up falling in love with the move for super fast grinding strategies
Not Dan unlocking the childhood memory of The Black Cauldron holy shit
Honestly I enjoyed the Braindead 13 playthrough.
Also, Dan's love for Black Cauldron and the playthrough of it made me appreciate that movie more. So thank you for that, Dan :)
EDIT: I wonder if they realize Valley Windworks is a "new place" to catch a pokemon
From Sweden
Me and my little brother used to watch The black cauldron on VHS all the time as kids! It was one of our favorites. I've always loved Henwen and Gurgi. Hearing Dan talk about this movie makes me want to see it again.
Maybe even watch it in English since we've only seen the dubbed version.
the pokemon center cooking your pokemon like eggs is so cursed lmaooo
Dan talking about "Dark Ages" Disney movies and I gotta say, my favorite Dark Age movie is The Great Mouse Detective.
34:33 I hope this doesn't go from blades of grass into blades of glass, but they're doing well so far! In a lot of nuzlockes the foundation is crazy to build, and then it's smooth(er) sailing after that.
Black cauldron is so goated!!! I used to watch the swedish dub all the time as a kid
32:54 Plus, all of the opening shots for the movie are in Estes Park, were the Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for the hotel in the Shining, is located. Come visit!
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Black Cauldron is one of my favorite Disney movies.
sobbing as I devour Psyduck "Does this mean I lose the Nuzlocke???"
Ah Dan, I understand your Black Cauldron references even if Arin doesn't. It's such a great underrated film!
If Arin catches a Pikachu or Pichu in this playthrough I hope he names them Myknee 😂
Arin, last episode : Don't sing or recite lyrics, we'll get flagged !
Dan, the very next episode : TURN AROUND~ 🎵
