I'm 63 years old and grew up in and on Sunnydale Avenue from 4 to 12 or 13 years old before moving to hayward but SF / the city will always be home. Born in San Francisco General Hospital starting life on potereo hill.

I grew up at 170 Brookdale ave. I may be real old cause we used to go to the candy store Sheepers if anyone remembers and El Rancho market formally Mayfair i dont remember a whole lot but i remember those stores. We lived at the top of the hill rode the #29 bus to school Visitation Valley.

Yup. Mayfair then turned into El Rancho. The the Short Stop opened up too. Got busted trying to rip off candy bars and poly seeds there. That was a good lesson to get early. I was 8. Hahaha. But I was just below your building. Yours was pink, ours was white. 109 Brookdale. We too used to go to candy houses, some houses sold fireworks, fire crackers, barrel bombs and m-80s. We left in ‘77. Right after Star Wars at the Geneva Drive In. Used get pickles, hot links and blue cream sodas at Little Village. Good times.🤙🏽

Being an outsider and social worker, I never felt anything but love in this spot. People were always real, if you acted real. I’m Mexican-American and was never not welcomed by the dudes chilling on the block. I’m glad they’re tearing the old buildings down because motherfuckas was crumbling to pieces. I hope the new buildings give the area something to be proud of.
