I love a good top stitch on many items. Saying that, I also love an under stitch too. My last top stitch project was for my granddaughter. I made a boho style ruffle skirt which was purple with unicorns, rainbows and sparkles. She's 5.
oooohhhh my goodness your unicorn skirt for your grand daughter sounds wonderful!! I bet she LOVES it. Yes I love a good understich too! Make things sit a lot nicer. 🙋♀️
@@sewmuchsewing Miss 5 is petite and shares her skirt with Miss 3. Miss 3 is a very tall girl and often raids Miss 5's wardrobe. I really need to make 2 new skirts for them. I've got a pale purple fabric with Olaf on (the snowman from Frozen). Thankfully the girls don't know about the Olaf fabric so I don't need to rush.
Loving the dress and laughed at your denim reminiscing about your brother. Happy memories about such typical family stuff. I must admit I was surprised you hadn’t top stitched for so long! I am comfortable with top stitching but confess to never having tried poppers 🙈. To me they are the stuff of nightmares!!! As for finished garment measurements I had a similar experience recently with the Paper Theory LB sweater- it was huge. Great pattern otherwise and I will make again but 2 sizes smaller. 😊 Lynne
Hi Lynne, thanks so much for your lovely message 🥰. Well, I have top stitched since then but not in a 'look at me I'm a different color and I am a feature' kind of a way. I've just used the same thread in recent times, you know what I mean? I think if you get a quality popper you will be gold, go for it! gah! yes so annoying when you are not given the correct sizing information. I know we are supposed to make a toile of each and every garment we make up for the first time... but really? How many of us actually do that? I only do it if it is something really special or really different to my usual. See you again soon! 🙋♀️
Catherine I have used Birch jeans buttons and they were flimsy and horrible and I avoid Birch now. I love your dress. I bought that pattern straight away. It's high on my "to do" list. ❤❤
Thank you, its so great to hear I'm not the only one who is less than impressed with Birch. I felt really awkward being less than glowing about them but other people have commented they are not happy with the brand as well. Phew! Yes I can really see you in this dress 🙋♀️
thanks for the review of the shoreline Catherine. I've been eyeing this pattern since it was released and I love your long version! Im a big fan of Pattern Emporium
I love this make! The fabric was a great find and d the topstitching is fantastic. I'm tempted by the pattern but, after seeing it on you, Id narrow the neck. I don't mind the deeper V but too wide for me. It would be perfect in winter...tights and matching long sleeve top/turtleneck and boots...perfect!
What an amazing dress, and it looks gorgeous on you. I must check out the Pattern Emporium. I love the Western vibe - can you imagine denim ever being ‘out’ in Oz or anywhere the world?!
Let's do the math.... it must have been around 1980 so I guess maybe denim mania had kind of died down a bit? I know I was pretty gutted to hear that 😔 But these days, absolutely not... demin is 'in' forever now! 👖
I love the dress. I love all the top stitiching. Sorry your brother made that comment to you about your demin piece, sounds like something my brothers would have said to me. The poppers look great just don't tell anyone about the one that doesn't come open and the pocket on that is wrong. No one will notice.
Exactly, the rest of the dress will outshine the couple of imperfections 🌟. I think older brothers a just a litle careless of their little sisters feelings some times, after all we are how they practice to be caring human beings... one day. 😉
Hi Catherine, absolutely love your Shoreline dress and perfect match with the chambray! Mmmm Birch products.....yeah nah! for me they are quite inferior products to others out there. Have a great week 🙂
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear other people agree with me re Birch. It wasn't comfortable to be negative about them in my vlog so I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Have a great week.
Oooooo I love that dress so much! The top stitching looks awesome too. Sadly my top stitching is rather lacking - have bought an edge stitching foot today to see if that helps.
Thanks Sarah 😄. Ooohhh nnooo I hope you end up with the top stitching result you are hoping for. Definitely an edge stitch foot will help a lot. Ummmm I wonder why I didn't think to mention that to you... oops!
Do we have a sewing kit or tool kit? From my mechanic husband I have permanently borrowed, ok stolen or requisitioned his metal metre long ruler, his kingcraft scissors (expensive but best things out) and weights he was going to use to make fishing sinkers.
Yes, I'm collecting a few bits and pieces too 😁. I now have my trusty hammer, my husband made me an aluminium hard edge that is probably about 1.2m long... but I do want to get a few giant washers from the hardware store for pattern weights. I thnk they look like they would be just perfect!
Great dress can’t go wrong with a hammer 😊
You may be surprised how wrong I can go with a hammer!!!! 😁🤣 I'm glad you like the dress. And now, with my hammer, I'm ready foe anything 😁
Love your dress. It looks fun, comfy and amazing. The denim suits you
Thank you so much! Nice things for you to say 😀.
Dress looks great in the denim and your top stitching looks incredibly neat Catherine. Pity about those poppers but they do really suit the fabric.
Yes, the poppers LOOK great even if the actually are less than great. Smoke and mirrors!! 🤭
Wow that dress looks so smart
With all that lovely neat top stitching too
Go you 😮❤
Thank you! 😊 I'm pretty happy with it 😁.
Catherine you did a really great job with this, I love it!!☺
Thanks very much 😊

Love it! You look so fab and cool and comfortable. Looks great with the brass jewellery also! Very stylish.
