This! This, how much I loved this! You're the man when it comes to all things Carlton and the Australian game. For you to share the story of likeminded others who have not grown up with the game but who share the same passion for the greatest game on the planet, brings me so much joy. (What a fantastic interview and how good is Oliver even if he's not a Blues fan). I'm a big sports fan but I long for the day when the rest of the world discovers the greatest game on the planet. (No better than you and Oliver to help do so). A hundred likes if I could. Thank you!
@@PommyinOZ I really loved that idea of bringing concepts from other sport into AFL coverage and commentary . that's the only way the game grows. I'm not surprised at all that two people from a british background are bringing something different to the game.
@MakeCakeNotWar yeah mate I agree. I also watch some stateside stuff and I wish that was in the British game and here too. First take in the states I find fascinating to watch and I'm not a huge nfl nba fan
Always a bizarre one this. Uk history we go in-depth on the commonwealth and the south Africans love the phrase too, as it was heavy an army base the cockney rhyming slang took off and it's coz they were immigrants and stuck. Weird how it's changed to Australians as the British empire never used acronyms on prisoners unless they were in isolation hence our derogatory term for sex offenders nonce in uk. Like the term at his or hers majesty's pleasure for the acronym to work wasn't used in any form of literature till 1910 so it's a funny folklore here. Kiwis and South Africans seem to have nailed the colonial history
@ I also read POHM was printed on their prison clothes, and another POHM was an abbreviation of pomegranate which having never seen one I’m told is red like their sunburn.

G'day mate, Oliver, what a champion , makes you want to listen, two intelligent blokes having a chat, just happen to be two Australians with pommy roots commenting on AFL, diverse option alive and well I think. When the rivalry gets out of hand it detracts from the codes enjoyment, nothing wrong with giving each other shit up to a point, but then it's what you are born into I suppose. The idea of you two doing a show anywhere, sign me up mate. As a bullants member who goes to 90% of games I agreee with both Oliver and you Pom. I tell you the Coburg, Bullants rivalry when we are at each others grounds is a very real thing while the shared struggle of being a stand alone club gives a commonality. Still, Coburg supporters mate, a cheaper version of the Collingwood inbreeding program. Agree with Olivier, a afternoon spent at the bullants home paddack with kids all over the place running around off the leash or for the younger ones rolling down the outers grassed hill and the dogs on the leash everywhere, a great way to spend time watching footy. Unfortunately for us Bullants fans missing a bit of winning success, good job I'm a blues fan, well praticed at being patient. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the two of you mate, so many wonderful voices to hear locked out of the mainstream, great you and Tez can introduce us. Merry xmas, Go Pom, Go Blues.
Love that mate about the bullants. I want to go to more grass root games in 2025, when I went back home went to a few epl games but visiting my local side whitby town was the highlight of the trip great to be at the base level where passion and community keeps the club afloat
The Saturday Sport you discuss is a bit like the old radio AFL coverage doing around the grounds. Also the old World of Sport on Sundays. We have lost something.
@Michael-r1x5h the historical information of sport is always fascinating I find. Like crazy wh3n you think about it, how we came up with different things purely to pass the time and then they boom 100 years later
In round 14 2020 Collingwood defeated Carlton by 24 pts. which meant that after 258 matches against each other 1897-2020, each had won 127 matches against the other, with 4 matches having been drawn. Since then Collingwood has won 6 of 8 matches against 'Blues'. From 1897 to 2024, Collingwood has scored 3,061 goals and 3,213 behinds for a total of 2,1579 points vs Carlton 3,000 goals and 3,088 behinds for a total of 21,088 pts. The two have played 22 Finals against each other with Carlton winning 14 of them. They have faced each other in 6 'Grand Finals' with Collingwood winning in 1910 and Carlton winning in 1915, 1938, 1970, 1979, and 1981.
