Hell yah brother, that mead looks good, I’ve been making it the barracks for about 6 months at this point, and I’ve learned you can use the strawberries and other fruits to add a flavor and natural yeast, you can even use the strawberries to back sweeten the mead and make a strawberry mead. I use grapes since I’m in Italy to make Pyemots, mead fermented with grapes. I’ve noticed your mead has a whiteish look to it instead of looking like you peed in a cup, probably the ratio of honey to water. Also have your heard of Hugelkultur? it’s a German method of fertilizing the soil by burying logs underneath your plants in a raised burrow like garden bed, I don’t know if you have any logs lying around anymore after that prairie fire, but you could use it to great extent in order to expand your gardening and self sufficiency Amateur brewing and agriculture tips aside, your an inspiration to all of us man, I’m hoping that I’ll get out their one day, maybe not your neck of the brush but somewhere similar, keep living it man.

I'm really glad you enjoyed Desert Solitaire man!!! Water is one of my favorite chapters in that book. I always loved the way he starts it with the word "Water" and ends with it too. And very true man that is definitely a common criticism of Abbey is he can often be negative, to me I kind of enjoy that aspect too though, because of the way he can articulate his anger hahah. And it makes him real to me. Like a more honest and brash Thoreau 😄 Right now I just started reading The Ox Bow Incident by Walter Van Tilburg Clark. I recently finished Girl With Curious Hair by DFW (Would not recommend hahah) and before that I read Alone at Dawn by Dan Schilling (Highly recommend), it's a biography about John Chapman the combat controller who was abandoned by the Navy Seals and fought off the Taliban alone on a snowy summit and saved most of his team members before succumbing to his wounds. He won two Medals of Honor for that and it's on video if you RUclips search: "First Medal of Honor Ever Recorded". Better than the mead, better than the elderberry wine and apple cider and all of that! And there's no shortage of fir, plus it's green year round! To answer your question I've never encountered anyone at all near my cabin and with how far out I am I doubt I ever will. It's a difficult trek through a network of canyons and offshoots 👊🏻 I did once run into another hobo 10 miles from here who was passing through, I sighted smoke from his campfire in a gully close to the highway and ate a weird meal with him and his dog for a bit hahah. Maybe I'll tell that story in a video one day. He had a skull mandable tattooed on his jaw that I could see through his beard and he was unironically named Chad 😂🌲

I'm about to finish Seeds of Terror; How Heroin is Bankrolling the Taliban and Al-Qaeda by Gretchen Peters. I finished Bad Lands by Oakley Hall after falling in love with the first book in the series called Warlock. I'm going to especially talk about that one in the Autumn video because I loved it so much! right when I thought we hadn't heard from you in a while! Wonderful video, not sure what 120F is in real degrees and I'm too lazy to check, but it sure sounded hot af. This year's summer has been cold af where I live, but at least we get to have late tomatoes and pepper. I would recommand not living your jar closed too long when you brew stuff, I've seen cases of explosion before. This year I'm trying to brew some apple juice and distill it later. It's hard af to press apples but I hope the result will be worth.
I think 120° F comes out to 48.9° C! The hottest I've ever experienced up here and I can only imagine what it was on the desert floor. It's a bummer that your Summer was so cold but I'm glad you got to have late tomatoes and peppers! And man let me know how your brew goes that sounds so awesome, I'm excited to hear about it 🍻 I hope I can advance enough to be able to distill some day. My moonshiner buddy in the desert (the guy who taught me to make my tooth numbing ointment) makes apple pie moonshine and it's a big hit with the locals there hahah. I'm definitivly going to try that mead recipe! Is there an autumn video in the works or are you taking a break to chill for a while (which would be absolutely understandable). You're an absolutely extraordinary person, how many millions do not go around fanatazising about just leaving it all to go live in the woods and never do it? And you just fucking up and did it. Most time I ever spent alone in the woods was 2 months after graduation where I had a job lined up but the contract didn't start until august and it was the happiest period of my life; just not having to worry about any long term shit like grades, money, social stuff. I've watched every video at least like twice, defintitivly my favorite poster on not just the /lit/ board but all chans out there.

So far I've harvested rose hips and made jelly & wine from them, enjoyed a much needed rainstorm, trekked down to the store and saved some rattlesnakes off the highway, and I'm planning on attempting a 150+ mile walk to my old hometown for the adventure & to see if I can do it (I'll probably fail but it will be fun to tramp along the canyon highways) Those 2 months you spent in the woods were probably so nice and those memories are probably going to last in your heart forever man :) It's like living out here opened up a door to my soul, I get an indescribable feeling thinking back to when I made my first treks through the desert. I can remember the feeling of the air and the way every rock smelled and the sounds of different kinds of dirt under my feet. It makes you want to just live forever 🌲 I'm so glad you enjoy the videos my friend, I sure do miss being able to post over there on /lit/. The ball thigh pain your taking about happens to me when i wear an uncomfortable pair of under pants and walk alot. Might be similar although this was a year ago hope its not a tumor
Nah man it was a strained hip flexor but I'll probably never mention an injury again haha. I've had people think it was everything from cancer to liver failure to a sebaceous growth.
Hey man, any advice on dealing with damgerous animals? I went sleeping in the forest a few weeks ago and got spooked by what sounded like a wolf. I was amazed on how calm you responded to those bear tracks. How do i deal with wolves?
From what Ive heard the way to deal with wolves is similar to how you deal with lions --- if you encounter one and it looks interested in you, then you want to stand up and make yourself look big and you want to never turn your back or break eye contact 👊🏻 Personally sometimes I'll give myself the spooks and get a bad vibe as if a lion is watching me -- when that happens I just start talking to myself very loud (in a deep voice which is key) to maintain a presence, and constantly checking in all directions. But 99% of the time you'll be okay brother, I had a bobcat sneak up behind me once but that was because I was crouched down watching a stink bug, so he thought I was small prey until I felt him looking at me and stood up. He didn't stalk off immediately until I began waving my arms over my head (I'm a tiny dude so it's hard to look big hahaha) 🐾

If anything, he is reviving an ancient practice that still exists in some parts of the world, and has only died out recently in others. Once could say that while his lifestyle rejects a lot of modernity, socially he is still fully immersed. The impression I get from him is that he has fully devoted himself to this lifestyle in the ascetic sense, he has his own youtube channel called 123homefree, and discusses there that while he wants to marry and start a family on the road, he will not compromise at all to do so.
Perhaps you could grow tobacco if you're so inclined! They're quite easy to grow and somewhat easy to process. might be tough to smoke at first because you'll have to air dry it for a time, but it's pretty all natural. Still.. smoking is bad for you, but it definitely could be a better alternative to highly processed cigs you buy at the store.

Thanks for watching and following along my friend and much love from here in the American woods to you in Germany! 🌲 The liquid is "Perky Pet's Hummingbird Food" which is really just 100% sugar water with red dye added to attract nectar feeders! I _could_ just use my sugar to make my own, but I go through a ton of sugar in my tea and wine and jellies, so I always just grab some hummingbird food when I make it to a store. (There's a big debate about whether the dye is safe but so far there's no proof it's harmful, _still always better to opt for sugar if you can_ ) Hope you have a nice Autumn friend! 🍁🍂

I used to the first year and a half or so! I used to buy big cheap cigars mainly to keep the black flies away but eventually I got used to them. I still have half a bag of Buglar I would roll cigarettes with, but that's gone awfully stale and just sits here behind my shelves now. Since that went stale I haven't smoked in a year. I still happily would though if I had a pack of smokes or fresh tobacco hahah 😂 Bad habit I know, but a real enjoyable bad habit!! And the rabbit tobacco has zero nicotine! After I filmed that clip it actually hit me a little hard and my eyes got heavy which suprised me, because when I smoked it in the hills of my hometown it didn't do that. But back then I was a weedsmoker so maybe that's why I didn't get the full effect of the rabbit tobacco then! But it definitely knocks me down a bit now 😂 I'm glad you like the videos man and I hope this season has been treating you well so far!

man i had that same pain you're talking about. It was right around the time that I had a brief stint with ED that came and went suddenly and then had a very stiff lower back that stayed around for a while (basically felt like an old man getting up out of a chair). Strangely it all subsided and I just chalked it up to something they're spraying in the air during the covid bullshit

Right now I just began reading The Taliban; War, Religion and the New World Order in Afghanistan by Peter Marsden. I'm about to finish Seeds of Terror; How Heroin is Bankrolling the Taliban and Al-Qaeda by Gretchen Peters. I finished Bad Lands by Oakley Hall after falling in love with the first book in the series called Warlock. I'm going to especially talk about that one in the Autumn video because I loved it so much!

Wonderful video, not sure what 120F is in real degrees and I'm too lazy to check, but it sure sounded hot af. This year's summer has been cold af where I live, but at least we get to have late tomatoes and pepper.
I would recommand not living your jar closed too long when you brew stuff, I've seen cases of explosion before. This year I'm trying to brew some apple juice and distill it later. It's hard af to press apples but I hope the result will be worth.
I think 120° F comes out to 48.9° C! The hottest I've ever experienced up here and I can only imagine what it was on the desert floor. It's a bummer that your Summer was so cold but I'm glad you got to have late tomatoes and peppers! And man let me know how your brew goes that sounds so awesome, I'm excited to hear about it 🍻 I hope I can advance enough to be able to distill some day. My moonshiner buddy in the desert (the guy who taught me to make my tooth numbing ointment) makes apple pie moonshine and it's a big hit with the locals there hahah. Oh and don't worry my jar doesn't seal air tight, so my problem is a bit opposite because I often worry it's too loose. 👊🏻 Take care brother! 🌲

Is there an autumn video in the works or are you taking a break to chill for a while (which would be absolutely understandable). You're an absolutely extraordinary person, how many millions do not go around fanatazising about just leaving it all to go live in the woods and never do it? And you just fucking up and did it.
Most time I ever spent alone in the woods was 2 months after graduation where I had a job lined up but the contract didn't start until august and it was the happiest period of my life; just not having to worry about any long term shit like grades, money, social stuff.
I've watched every video at least like twice, defintitivly my favorite poster on not just the /lit/ board but all chans out there.

I'm always filming brother! And I can already tell the Autumn video is going to be an eventful one! So far I've harvested rose hips and made jelly & wine from them, enjoyed a much needed rainstorm, trekked down to the store and saved some rattlesnakes off the highway, and I'm planning on attempting a 150+ mile walk to my old hometown for the adventure & to see if I can do it (I'll probably fail but it will be fun to tramp along the canyon highways)
Those 2 months you spent in the woods were probably so nice and those memories are probably going to last in your heart forever man :) It's like living out here opened up a door to my soul, I get an indescribable feeling thinking back to when I made my first treks through the desert. I can remember the feeling of the air and the way every rock smelled and the sounds of different kinds of dirt under my feet. It makes you want to just live forever 🌲

Hey man, any advice on dealing with damgerous animals? I went sleeping in the forest a few weeks ago and got spooked by what sounded like a wolf. I was amazed on how calm you responded to those bear tracks. How do i deal with wolves?
From what Ive heard the way to deal with wolves is similar to how you deal with lions --- if you encounter one and it looks interested in you, then you want to stand up and make yourself look big and you want to never turn your back or break eye contact 👊🏻 Personally sometimes I'll give myself the spooks and get a bad vibe as if a lion is watching me -- when that happens I just start talking to myself very loud (in a deep voice which is key) to maintain a presence, and constantly checking in all directions. But 99% of the time you'll be okay brother, I had a bobcat sneak up behind me once but that was because I was crouched down watching a stink bug, so he thought I was small prey until I felt him looking at me and stood up. He didn't stalk off immediately until I began waving my arms over my head (I'm a tiny dude so it's hard to look big hahaha) 🐾

@Quail Fan Certainly, his path is far removed from the life of the hermit. If anything, he is reviving an ancient practice that still exists in some parts of the world, and has only died out recently in others. Once could say that while his lifestyle rejects a lot of modernity, socially he is still fully immersed.
The impression I get from him is that he has fully devoted himself to this lifestyle in the ascetic sense, he has his own youtube channel called 123homefree, and discusses there that while he wants to marry and start a family on the road, he will not compromise at all to do so.

Perhaps you could grow tobacco if you're so inclined! They're quite easy to grow and somewhat easy to process. might be tough to smoke at first because you'll have to air dry it for a time, but it's pretty all natural. Still.. smoking is bad for you, but it definitely could be a better alternative to highly processed cigs you buy at the store.

The liquid is "Perky Pet's Hummingbird Food" which is really just 100% sugar water with red dye added to attract nectar feeders! I _could_ just use my sugar to make my own, but I go through a ton of sugar in my tea and wine and jellies, so I always just grab some hummingbird food when I make it to a store. (There's a big debate about whether the dye is safe but so far there's no proof it's harmful, _still always better to opt for sugar if you can_ )

I used to the first year and a half or so! I used to buy big cheap cigars mainly to keep the black flies away but eventually I got used to them. I still have half a bag of Buglar I would roll cigarettes with, but that's gone awfully stale and just sits here behind my shelves now. Since that went stale I haven't smoked in a year. I still happily would though if I had a pack of smokes or fresh tobacco hahah 😂 Bad habit I know, but a real enjoyable bad habit!!
And the rabbit tobacco has zero nicotine! After I filmed that clip it actually hit me a little hard and my eyes got heavy which suprised me, because when I smoked it in the hills of my hometown it didn't do that. But back then I was a weedsmoker so maybe that's why I didn't get the full effect of the rabbit tobacco then! But it definitely knocks me down a bit now 😂

Writing down your recommendation so I have it for later! I'm an inferior monolingual haha so I will definitely search for a translation. One book I highly recommend is Warlock by Oakley Hall. I had been wanting to read it for a while, finally did and can honestly say it's everything I look for in a book 📚
And I finally got to Les Miserables because a friend recommended it to me and she hit the money with that one, It's another book that has certainly become one of my all time favorites.

man i had that same pain you're talking about. It was right around the time that I had a brief stint with ED that came and went suddenly and then had a very stiff lower back that stayed around for a while (basically felt like an old man getting up out of a chair). Strangely it all subsided and I just chalked it up to something they're spraying in the air during the covid bullshit
