Dustin I am a 60 something daughter that now cares for my her 90 plus parent full time on the farm. We have a zero-turn grasshopper with the 572 Kabota engine. He is going crazy trying to fix it. It runs for a bit then varies between slow and fast back an forth until it quits. Then he waits 45 minutes and starts to mow again and it works for a while and the problem starts again. Could you possibly give me some ideas as to what might be wrong? We are now thinking the carburetor and I don't know where to find one at a good price but will start to look into it. We have no internet and they are on a limited budget, but we mow over 5 acres. Any help is appreciated because I like you will probably inherit this machine although I'm thinking they may outlive me at this point. LOL Oh and the reason I'm asking you is that I have a primary immune deficiency, so we live quarantined for the most part. thank you for any help.

It sounds to me like a vacuum leak that changes based on temperature. I would check the intake manifold for cracks that might open up as it gets up to temp. Without internet I think you're pretty much stuck with calling a Kubota dealer... Wait, you couldn't have seen and responded to this without internet.

It turned out the issue was simply a vacuum leak at the throttle shaft. My dad has some parts tractors so I was able to swap carbs with one of them.

    Exhaust block maybe

Sorry, I should have posted what I finally found. It was simply a vacuum leak at the throttle shaft. Luckily my dad has some parts tractors so I swapped carbs with one of them.

Exactly what I'm on here trying to find a fix for. Mine started making me believe that it was overheating because it only did it once the engine was reaching operating temperature. Weeks later it now acts just like yours, I'm going to start poking at ignition parts possibly safety switches temperature sending unit (perhaps it thinks it's overheating)

Update it took three "other" coils but mine is running right again. After seeing you have a "change" with the intake hose my first thought was muffler could be plugged.

Mine ended up being a vacuum leak. My throttle shaft seal wasn't doing it's job anymore. I replaced the carb and all is good.

theres no ecu on these engines so the sensors more or less just operate indicator lights. They use a distributor and a mechanical centrifugal governor, which has its own access panel where the governor shaft enters the block and then connects to your distributor shaft. The small governor components are prone to failure but your issue sounds like a head gasket or a cracked block/head. Id run a compression test in all 3 cylinders before doing anything

Hello Dustin. I received an email with a reply to a comment I had made on Everyday Man's video regarding connecting a backup generator to the house. I don't know if he deleted your comment or what because it was not there when I tried to reply to you. In any case, I agree with your reply 100%. That's the way it is supposed to be done. I have an electrician coming to my house to discuss it and he was saying the same as you. My 100 amp breaker box is full so we have to do some rewiring to make room for that double-pole 30 amp breaker for the generator at the top of the panel. Thanks for your well thought out comment.

I'm glad you were able to see it. I thought I'd commented, but it wasn't there (I may have just not hit the post button) so I commented again. I hadn't looked to see if it was still there. If he did delete it he must have some substantial esteem issues to not be willing to be corrected, let's hope it was a glitch on RUclips's end. I'll try one more time to see what happens.

On second thought, comments were turned off on that video, maybe he had too many people correcting him and he couldn't handle it. I wasn't trying to be rude or put him down, just getting the correct info for safety out. I just checked and I didn't see your comment either.

Guys, this issue with your mowers missing under heavy load is usually corrected with a new set of spark plugs. I had to replace the plugs in my Cub Cadet tractor at 43 hours do to miss firing and rough idle. I was sure it was the carburetor and I removed it cleaned all of the jets. The float bowl was clean though and the fuel pump was good. Then I changed the plugs, even though they still looked fine. That fixed the problem and the tractor now has 116 hours on it without any more issues. I did start using ethanol free fuel though with Seafoam because I use the same fuel in my trimming mower and leaf blower.

In my case the issue was a vacuum leak, specifically the throttle shaft seal was leaking.

@leonardo migot : It was sucking air through the throttle shaft even with the air filter out.

@@troybigham2453 : Absolutely!! My dad bought the mower used when I was 15, I'm 40 now and he gave it to me several years ago when he upgraded. The engine (Kohler) in his upgrade blew and he found one with the Kubota diesel which he loves. I blew a head gasket once, and had this issue which turned out to be a vacuum leak at the throttle shaft, other than those it's been great.

check the governor bearing, soak the catalytic muffler in kerosene before blowing out with compressed air and compression test your cylinders
