    I recently finished part 1 and at first I did not like the unmercenary bloat, and stopped playing it. I picked it up again 2 years later and I really fell in love with the game and the silly side quests. It's a game that does not take itself too seriously and I love the often wacky humor. I'm looking forward to dive back into that world again.

    The worst part of Chadley is that he robs the party of any reason to explore or care about the planets history. Rather than being interested in the planet they want to save, they’re given the task of getting “data” for him. Would’ve been way better if the party wanted to explore, could even give extra lines to the party to flesh them out. Overall just feels like a chore rather than something you want to do. Yeah yeah it’s skippable, doesn’t mean it isn’t still bad.
    For the story my main gripe is that nothing really happens. We get a bit more character development and introduced to the Weapons but other than that we just kinda run around and eventually Sephiroth will appear. Remake really hooked me in because every story beat flowed into each other and by the time you restart the game for hard mode, you can really see how far you went and how much the characters changed. I also still have no idea what Sephiroth even wants to do besides “destroy the planet”. We also straight up beat him. In Remake it felt like he was sandbagging but this is the second time now and it feels like genuine defeat until he flies off.
    Zack is my goat but they make it impossible to give a shit about him because there’s like 4 different versions of him. Biggs’ arc of survivors guilt was great until his conclusion was *gets shot*. Should I really care if yet another version of Biggs shows up?

    I think Remake benefitted somewhat from the city walls. Not a fan of Remake's story direction, style, or even its Midgar, but it now feels like a much more focused game and tale. With Rebirth, I don't necessarily have a problem with lots of things to do, but the developers seemed to take the 'world map' job to mean burying the OG's sense of wonder and apprehension under noisy towns, phone calls, annoying NPCs, picture-perfect people, and unlimited games. Giving me the sense that I'm a passenger in an endless, busy theme park.

    I'd actually say that a lot of this remake's oddities aren't necessarily a Square Enix problem, but a Tetsuya Nomura problem. You know, the guy who made Kingdom Hearts, the convoluted mess of a series no one understands fully. The combat system in those games (which is fun but sure has its problems) was his idea, as was the gummi ship. If the gummi ship segments aren't bloat, then I don't know what they're supposed to be.

The content creator is 100% correct tetsuya is all about looking cool without logic to a story. Nah all the side content is awesome and well done. The game is a lot of fun, especially if you like open worlds. I don't think the main story experience is bloated either, but that really just comes down to if you like where the story is going or not, though I'd argue it's too early to really tell since we haven't seen the pay off. It seems you don't mind that it was expanded either you just don't like how some parts were told, like the Loveless play. The problem isn't that it was expanded upon it's just that it was nonsensical, it's one of the few moments in the game where the writing was really bad, but the idea to expand that section is not a bad one so I wouldn't call it "bloat".

      I get where you're coming from but nah.. for me there's just too many forced uneccessary fights, characters and gameplay events that ultimately serve no purpose of actually telling the story properly... and there's a lot of people that feel that way too. You honestly can't tell me you love the multiverse idea and you see the potential cuz with what we got i have to say it was incredibly draining. Maybe you like the premise of the idea but you can't tell me they executed it well. Not in Rebirth at least. It'll be especially hard to feel real emotion or care for the expanding story and incredibly large cast of characters when you yourself are questioning whether the events happening around you is even real, fake, or worth it in the first place.

A lot of those so-called "unnecessary" gameplay events serve to expand on our view of the world, people who inhabit it, their culture, their lifestyle, and main characters to boot. Go with the story with an open mind because the third part if done right is setting up to be one hell of a conclusion given that it will have to be choke full of main content to tie all the threads they have thrown out to conclusion and guess what? They are well deep into development of the third game, and it probably will be out by 2026, that should give you confidence the Dev team have actually thought it through and the game is made with love, not a money grab.

      levels are definitely not pointless omg have you even played the game? levels not only increase the attributes but also give you weapon points which are added to the manuscripts you find which in turn increases the weapon level which in turn increases the weapon skill slots, materia slots and weapon attributes, plus they unlock further offensive, defensive or supporting weapon skills, have you really played FF7 Rebirth?
      and what does it mean that materia has no meaning? are you serious? Materia are literally the central element in the design of your characters and offer tons of connection and combination possibilities, each materia is unique and has its use the only truly useless materia is the stealing materia
      story is excellent despite the fact that Rebirth is the middle part of a trilogy, it makes up for the relatively slow pacing with its outstanding characters and the numerous storylines it lays down for the third part so it's not a big deal, oh did I mention the characters? I think FFXVI does a lot better than FFVII Rebirth, the combat system isn't as hectic and overwhelming, the side quests aren't all connected to mini-games that you have to win, there are no Ubisoft towers that you have to activate and the game doesn't drag as much Length. If you compare the battle system of FFVII Rebirth with FFXVI, then FFVII Rebirth is pure button smashing, as you have to fill the bar quickly to be able to use spells or items, which is not the case with FFXVI. FFXVI is also button smashing, but there is no need to quickly hit the buttons to heal or use abilities. It's funny because while I largely have mostly positive things to say about Rebirth and can wax poetic on some of the directions they can take in Part 3, I largely felt the same as you in the middle of my first playthrough and immediately after beating it. I said it was like "maximalism on crack" and that this was the "Everything" game in that it had everything that could possibly be added to a game AND every narrative thread possible added as well. And I'm so glad you used the word "non-committal," since that's how I felt about the ending on first playthrough. It was like they opened every narrative door JUST in case they might need it in the future. I have other thoughts on that now, but won't bore you. It's too much.
    All that said, I was clapping at your breakdown of how Loveless worked. I do think there are more narrative reasons for it than you outline BUT I was also so thrown by the VR mechanics. They genuinely don't make any sense, even watching it multiple times, and I do like that version of just having all of it be a reflection of Cloud's wild imagination.
    Oh and funny thing about Chadley. I wondered at one point if they were using Chadley to help dimensionalize why Cloud would believe he were simply "created" by Hojo... the lie told to him by Sephiroth in the OG, which always felt a BIT outlandish and unbelievable. Hence, leading to Cloud thinking, "OMG so I'm just like that little shit that's been stalking me for 3 games. I'm not real." But they have already very effectively done the job of getting Cloud to believe he is doomed and just a puppet like the other robed men, especially with doubling down on degradation (the one Compilation addition to the lore that I quite like... even if it looks goofy in Crisis Core). Again, another potential example of stacking too many elements on top of each other.

    Thanks, confirms my decision to avoid it. I love the PS1 original, played through multiple times. Was excited for the remake, but they took a 6 hour section of the original game, and turned it into a bloated mess that took me 30 hours. Most of that time I was forcing myself to play, just wishing it would end. Sound like rebirth is the same. Guessing part three will be FFVII Remorse.

      I actually prefer Remake over Rebirth because it’s more straightforward. After they leave Midgar it gets a bit baggy. Not sure I’ve got the stamina for the third one.

      Personally, I think the experience should be largely tailored by the developer. Most of the mini games you’re typically forced to play once and only then is it up to you whether or not you want to play more. On a first play through how are you supposed to know what content to try and what to skip?

    @fbomb.0163 10 дней назад +4

    I agree with this video. This is coming from a player who has platinumed and 100% the entire game. I'm also a massive fan of the franchise. First off, let me just start off with the things I absolutely love about this game: the combat, MOST of the characters, the cinematography and overall flow of the game. All of that is brilliant imo but God I cannot be the only one that thinks the story and some of the events that take place is just way too dragged out lol. Like I get that it's a JRPG and it's supposed to feel like this super long never ending journey but my goodness it is completely soul draining. I mean think about it actually.... the whole point of the game is to find sephiroth and stop him from ending the world right??? Well... in my opinion you wouldn't actually know that with how the events that play out in the main story. A lot of the stuff that goes down in the story will give you that "wtf is happening" type reaction which just kills the soul purpose of actually trying to find and kill this sephiroth guy. Like think about it truly... Loads of the segments that happen in this game play absolutely ZERO part in the game's plot, and the game doubles down on this by using the black cloaked guys as an excuse as to why we're just gallavanting all over the damn place lmao. The game doesn't even tell you how or why these guys are leading us to sephiroth, or how they even get to parts of the world that we seemingly have to travel by godamn planes and stuff? Let me not even get started on how some of the characters were done in this game... Remember Vincent? The frickin dracula guy? Yeah, he does absolutely nothing the whole time we get introduced to him. RedXIII visiting his hometown? We learn a bit about the black materia and the Gi I guess... but then that whole event just gets left behind in tbe dust like it's absolutely nothing. Making our way to Gongaga just to get swallowed by a big fish?... going to costa del sol to...do what exactly? Fight Hojo for no reason? The only actual parts of the story that I can see served some purpose is maybe Barret's segment where we learn about his past and The party going to nibel. Everything else that happens is kind of just pointless, which square done on purpose because they want the story to be as long as possible whilst catering to a large cast of characters. The problem with that is we as the player get a lot of uneccassary gameplay strolls like fighting the turks over and over again with no real reward (though it was kinda fun towards the end I guess because it actually felt lile you whooped their as*es that time), fighting scarlet for no reason (she just flies away in the end), fighting Pamer, Hojo, all of these fights happen for no reason and we don't even get any sense of satisfaction for beating them, becaude they just run away. It can get frustrating. Now imagine when we finally get to the end of the game, we fight this selestial galactical version of sephiroth like 10 times whilst changing party members inbetween, giving you no choice at all- just for sephiroth to smile at you while he flies away and you just stand there like this 👁👄👁 trying to figure out wtf you just wasted your time on. I haven't even touched on the side content in this game... like jeez there's just way too much going on here

      TLDR

    • @Biglongmchuge-ff9co
      @Biglongmchuge-ff9co 10 дней назад +4

      The Black Robe guys are pretty much part of Jenova and heading towards the reunion, Sephiroth hinted at this at the temple of the ancient where he said "his fragmented mother" and the whole world will be made whole again. Those are obviously plot setups that will be answered in the third game, without giving you any theory spoilers. Those black robe guys do not need to travel by plane either, they are everywhere, and not all of them will successfully make the journey, but all of em are head towards one place, so you are not seeing the same robed guys but what matters is the party is following those robe guys to their destination. What is so confusing about that?
      On Vincent, he have his own fricking game, so obviously his story will be fleshed out in the third chapter.
      On Red XIII and Cosmo Canyon, oh boy, just you wait for the third chapter along with Buganhagen, it will be one of the most pivotal plot point of the game that is coming up, and from what I imagine they will do with Aerith with this part it is going to be a big tear jerker.
      As for the Gongaga, well those big fish will play a significant role in the third game, and Tifa experiences through the lifestream *hint not her memories but of someone elese's memory will play a pivotal part in the third game, also hint at the end of the game, those giant materia within those big fishes glowed pure white at the ending, stay tune these are all deliberately set up for the third game and will get answers.
      Costa Del Sol was more like a fun location to get to know your party better, a well needed break, and was like a vacation spot as in the OG game, I don't mind it, but I will give you that.
      Ironically Barret story while sweet serves the least importance to the Overaching story of the entire game, though it was really sweet and you get to learn about Marlene, and realy touching, it have really little significance to the overal plot of the game, so funny you point out the least significant segment as the one that you love the most.
      Oh the end we had several battles going on, one in the physical space, and one within Cloud's head, because as you know Cloud has fragmented memories, one of them which is clearly seen with him in the wheelchair in Aerith's dream! How those come together are just theoretical but everything will be explained in the third game.
      Pretty much all the gripes you have about the plot holes will be resolved in the third game.

      @@Biglongmchuge-ff9co I'm glad you actually explained everything that this game confused me about😭🙏 I just feel that with a lot of stuff in this game it can get easy to lose track of what actually matters cuz there's just an abundance of different things going on. And the bad writing in some story parts doesn't help either. A lot of what you mentioned you said will be explained in the third game, which is fair enough I guess. I just can't help but feel as if square aren't even going to pull that off properly when I'm going off of how they done this game. I know there'll definitely be great story segments in the third game, but with how much stuff they gotta cover now idk to me it sounds like too much maybe with the whole split worlds, memory fragments and all of that... I could be wrong we'll just have to wait and see when the game comes out. I really hope you're right and they do answer all the questions raised

      No, the game is very good, but in my opinion it is presented better than it is because of the FFVII fan glasses, so the problems that FF7 Rebirth has are often ignored. If these Ubisoft towers had already existed in FFXVI then fans would have torn it apart and claimed "This has nothing to do with FF" but since it's FFVII it's weirdly fine xD
