    Man, just wanted to take a sec and say a huge thankyou. Having a resource like this really makes it possible for a newer racer to take home a A-main qual time... If your ever in Spokane drop me a line and we can run a lap or two :)

    I got to talk to Adam drake on the phone at the Horizon shootout in like 2009 or 2010 (my dad was there and I couldn't make it to the race) and he really is a stand up guy. He doesn't do it for the cameras. He encouraged me to keep racing and to keep working hard, exactly what he does.
    Mad respect for Adam and the way he does things!

      Yeah he definitely stands out from a lot of the other pro drivers. He doesn't mind sharing tips and tricks and he always takes time to reply to emails or messages about any questions. A class act for sure

I had just this very thing happen this past week although I didn't get first place I did happen to get 2nd in between 2 of our best driver's at our local track it was such a great feeling finishing ahead of a guy that usually sets track records and that has been racing since the 80's not trying to pay myself on the back but a great feeling none the less .. thanks for this timely video

    Great race tips! I am just getting into racing and am by no means a good racer lol! I do, however, practice a lot and have made improvements by leaps and bounds because of that. Again, great tips and kudos to Adam Drake for remaining humble and honest about himself! You don't see that a lot these days! Good stuff! Thanks!

    Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

    I feel like you misunderstood what Adam said. He did not say he is not as talented, he said he is not as naturally talented. Meaning he did not pick up a radio and start turning fast laps out of the gate, but more so it was learned after years of practice and hard work. I know Adam, he is very talented.To say otherwise is a little crazy if you ask me.

    I've been club racing since 1988! Every weekend or leading up to the pole position guys young and old literally strut around before the race like they have it in the bag yet they never win it. Racing in a pack is dangerous, people crash, run into etc. So much changes during a race too with the track. I now always come in the top 5 because I'm a careful consistent driver. I also run a 12 year old odonnell z01b sg and beat guys with brand new this year rigs. It's not the equipmwnt, it's not the fastest engine, it's driver skill, setup, tires and consistency that wins it. I'm very in tune with my deeply beloved odonnell too. Buddy of mine races 10th scale electric with a 8 year old x-ray 4wd and schools guys literally with 2019 2020 brand new 1000 plus usd rigs. The latest and greatest loving guys just can't swallow their pride and say, "Hey I need to practice and set up my car better". they always blame the equipment. Pro drivers are consistent and this makes them fast. Every top lever race is won by the guy or girl who crashes the least.

    SO True Jayson !! last weekend I sent 6 hr's at the track to tune my B5M better for Fridays club race was sick of winning the C main and B main I wanted to Be in the A main ! well the tuning for 3 hr's paind off !! chanced the shock piston , shock limiters oil, camber , ride height , shock rebound , toe ... and car was hooked ! so Friday came first heat I was battling it out for 1 st place with a good A main driver so I almost got the pass but wanted a clean pass not a dirty one ,, Respect I like to have , 2nd heat came I wanted a little more Forward bite used a different set of tires LOL NO good bad Run .. then the Mains where posted I did it !! made it to the A -Main starting in 4th on the grid ... it started off good I jumped right into 2 placed by having a Great hole shot and then got into a tangle with a driver on the table top broke free quick and still in 2nd the 3 rd car driver was on my tail I got the in side left turn he had the outside he lost control taken my back wheels out and caused a big crash I was SO MADD!!!! and could not keep my focus after that ended up in 4th place I just wanted to chuck my Radio after that race was over .. felt like I Failed I worked so hard to do good and failed ... but I made it to the A Main and did have a chance .. what I learned from this IF u do work hard and have a Good set up u can beat other Fast guys ... Its the guys who lose a wheel from a loose nut during a race, if you aren't checking your wheels nuts..imagine what else might be loose? Maintenance, practice, maintenance.. prep and race. I've seen guys win because their stuff was in better shape and didn't break down than the guys who are much faster, but never take the time to prep their car beforehand. I've raced against one of the top locals here..because he didn't bother testing his gearing setup, he lost. His motor burned up and I passed right by him. I didn't take first place, but I finished the race.

    I hear a whole bunch of people talk about "Talent" allot. Talent doesn't exist. Someone can have a nich for something and have beginners luck and that can be seen as "talent". But a professor once told me...
    Talent + Effort = Skill
    Skill + Effort = Achievement
    Anybody can improve their skills with hard work and determination, anything is possible. It's not "Talent" it's Effort.

  • @gatorage850
    @gatorage850 9 лет назад +1

    he said it!!! there is two thing that are #1 in racing... drive to your car lvl and driver to your lvl... no matter how good you are you can not drive faster than the car. this is why it is good to practice with 2wd (even if you drive 1/8 buggy) it will teach you how not to overdrive and if you do it will show it.

    • @brandonbentley8532
      @brandonbentley8532 3 года назад

      That's called cross training...try 12th scale pan cars then go back to 8th scale buggy, your 8th scale will feel like it's moving in slow motion.
