I think people are being dishonest about the purpose of fight scenes in Precure. It's not just violence, it was often a source of tension, a chance to show off teamwork, or an epic character moment.
My worry with the chases is that it's hard to deliver memorable moments with such a tame scenario.
I think episode 1 & 2 are great because they shows off Komugi and Iroha's personalities. However, much like some fight scenes before, I feel like the chase in episode 4 was pretty pointless.
It's possible for them to work, but they have big shoes to fill.
Thanks for discussing this so calmly

I will admit I’m missing the fight scenes and it’s part of the reason I stopped watching Precure during Kira Kira Precure A La Mode but there are two reasons I am okay with no fights. One is the fact they are going against actual animals so it makes sense they don’t want to throw punches at the animals and also the choreography of the chase scenes has been nice so far. The second fact is I’m watching it with my partner and this is his first season so he’s liking it. I’m excited for some magic purifications. That’s what’s missing to me.

I’m very neutral on this debate: I get both sides. I don’t see the problem with precure ditching fights and trying something new but at the same time the biggest concern I have is that the chase scenes are gonna get kinda repetitive. Outside of using their powers like twice they don’t really feel like magical girls in a way but imma have trust that the show has more up its sleeve. To me, something that could’ve satisfied both sides was to make the motw have powers and the girls powers be more about stopping destruction/humanely trapping the garugaru while also comforting them- that way there’s still action without beating up animals lol.
(I do think this debate is super funny bc I just watched some of fresh precure and the intro ep for cure pine is the team beating up a dog that got turned into a monster)

Fights in Precure can be fun because of how sparkly and eye catching they can be... but to be honest "fights" in general is always my LEAST favorite part of any show. As long as Precure still has fun and enjoyable dynamics in the interactions between the characters, it's good enough to keep me watching. Also... as someone who has enjoyed playing "pacifist runs" of normally violent games sometimes... it is fun to see Precure (so far) doing a "pacifist run" when it comes to the monsters of the week. ^_^

Pretty Cure was built on fighting, it’s crucial to the character development, watching a character grow both mentally and physically is the main reason I watch Precure and the main reason I do not like Wonderful, this feels like a season aimed toward an even younger demographic than before, but if people are enjoying it that’s awesome, I still have the seasons I truly love, to each their own.

I personally love Wonderful but I definitely understand how and why some people would dislike Wonderful and to an extent Kira Kira A La Mode because it has been a staple and for some, it’s been their favorite aspect throughout the #precure franchise.
Yet it can be important to a character’s development from a mental and physical perspective.
I am also very open to the chase action but I also want them to keep the legacy of innovative fighting to extent or at least be more experimental and diverse.
Precure is an anime that is targeted towards younger audiences but it’s also true that Toei Animation does acknowledge there are older audiences alike.
I genuinely get its not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s perfectly fine but I would appreciate if people would stop complaining every single week because it is a bit annoying to see.
Yet I wouldn’t mind seeing more videos or videos ideas/collaboration videos from #precure creators and I am surprised we haven’t done poll videos for the villains, songs and seasons in general.

Wonderful Precure is really cute and I'll keep watching! But the lack of physical fights or even fighting at all makes it feel like something is missing, I suppose? This is just my opinion though, and I love all kinds of magical girl shows, not just the ones with fighting! One of my favorite shows ever is Jewelpet Tinkle lol! But when it comes to Precure it's strange. I miss it.
However... seeing all the people angry that other people miss the fight scenes is just confusing lol. Why are people not allowed to miss that aspect all of a sudden? It's been there for 20 years (even in Kirakira there were still battles).

I completely agree with you! Not every Precure fight can be deemed as 'masterpiece'... In a typical episode, the monster often appears merely to fulfill the obligatory 'Precure portion,' even when its presence isn't necessary... Additionally, some final attacks lack the impressive impact and can become old fast. That being said, I wouldn't mind replacing those filler fights with something different... like chasing the animal monsters in Wonderfull precure.
I'm more worried about how they will handle the story and the villains

You can’t really use in-universe logic as a defence for a fictional work because, as is the same with the fictional work itself, that in-universe reason is also just a part of the fictional universe that can be changed. Like they could’ve just not written it like that. They could’ve made it so the garugarus weren’t just animals or like literally any other storyline that would make it ethical to have fight scenes. Thermian argument type thing going on here

So having a season based on kindness, compassion and communication is very refreshing. Hirogaru had some really intense emotional storyline, and so far this season I have cried multiple times because everything is so kind and nice and happy, and I love that.

"emotional excitement" that accompanies the "fighting excitement". cure moonlight's last fight against dark precure isn't memorable to me because it had great action, it was memorable to me because she gave the "Within our hearts lie countless emotions." speech again and it was SO COOL. so yeah, haven't seen wonderful precure, but as long as that emotional core is there i figure it'll be just as good as any other season. people just gotta give it time to cook

Honestly I’ve never really watched precure for the action. Of course I really love how much effort they put into it and it’s not like they haven’t become a huge part of the franchise. Though to me, precure is about characters first, and fights second. Was kirakira lacking in terms of physical combat? Yes, but it had some of the best character writing imo as it managed to put a decent amount of focus for all 6 of its main characters, when some seasons can’t even put decent focus on some cures in a 4 person team.
It really bugs me when people say that the fights are the only unique aspect about precure, and without them it’s just a bland magical girl series. There are so many things that have become staples of the franchise, like have you seen another anime with a new season and cast of characters each year with a brand new theme and universe to explore? And anime that’s been doing CGI dance sequences since the pre idol anime era? An anime with inter universe crossover movies every few years as more characters get added? An anime with transformation sequences that usually last over a minute yet seem to go by so fast because every frame catches your eye? Heck, even being a traditional magical girl anime airing in this day and age makes it unique. I mean, of course you can name an anime or show that fits one or two of these categories, but the combination of them make precure already very recognizable, and that’s excluding anything about fights.
To me, this season seems to be bringing a lot of spotlight to its characters (even including characters that aren’t cures for now) and I think this type of action that they’re going for is a good way to touch on topics like mistreatment of animals, so I wouldn’t complain about it just yet.
If you look at the most iconic precure seasons, the only one that really got popular because of its action was Go Princess. Futari Wa is popular because it’s the original. Heartcatch is a fan favorite because it develops its characters really nicely and adds a lot of emotion and darkness. Smile is popular because of its dub (whether that’s a good or a bad thing doesn’t matter for this discussion), and Hugtto is popular because it brings up more mature themes within the story. Basically what I’m trying to say is that there are many other reasons that people watch precure besides the action.
Though of course, if you watch precure for the action, that’s completely valid. I don’t think there should be a right or wrong reason to watch a show, just enjoy the content you like. Though if you’re skipping out on Wonderful this year because of that, some seasons I recommend that have great choreographed action in their best episodes (in my opinion, so take this with a grain of salt) are Futari Wa, Dokidoki, Happiness Charge, Go Princess, Hugtto, and Tropical Rouge! :D

  • @isabellamorris7902
    @isabellamorris7902 8 месяцев назад +2

I like good fight choreography and dynamic action -- there's a reason why Madoka is my favourite magical girl show. BUT that doesn't have to just come from fights with punches and kicks and stuff.
Really, the reason I love Madoka is because its stakes FEEL high during the fights/action scenes, and because the fights are designed around interesting uses of the girls' powers. (The Mami/Homura fight in Rebellion is a great example.) Because almost all stories need conflict, physical fights are a really good way to demonstrate the differences between characters' motivations and learn more about those characters when they're put under pressure.
As long as it's thrilling to watch, though, it doesn't have to be an actual fight. Narrative tension can come from anywhere. So yeah a magical girl show centered around chase scenes could totally work but the characters should be designed with that in mind, there should be real thought put into the way those scenes are written, and the chase scenes should conclude with a resolution that matched the theme of the show/episode and developed the characters.

The fights in precure are honestly a big draw for me, because I don't get too see much "girly" pieces of media that have well choreographed and animated fight scenes.. However, the fights aren't the *only* thing precure has to offer, and I feel like when people chalk up the quality of precure to only *one aspect*.. It just feels disingenuous.
I've seen a debate happen where one person mentioned that they tend to skip the transformations.. And others got on their case because "the transformations are such a big part of the magical girl genre!" And while I do agree with that statement, i just can't agree with the implication that magical girl genre has nothing else to offer outside of those transformation sequences. There's so much that goes into these series, the music, stories, characters, designs.. But to ignore all of that and just hyperfixate on *one* detail? Idk, it rubs me off the wrong way.
Anyway, awesome video as always 💕💕

Personally, I really like the combat parts of Precure. It's largely for the animation, but I also love it when they use their powers in creative ways and use different strategies with unique villains. (It does get a bit tiring to watch the fights when they are shoved into the middle of an episode that really didn't need it though,) One of my favorite Hirogaru Sky episodes was the one where they transformed in order to bring the lady to see her son before he left on the plane. I would love it if there were more episodes like that where their powers weren't just used for fighting and could be used to help solve other problems. Overall, I think a mix of fights and non-fights would make a season really fun to watch!
The non-fighting is a bit anticlimactic for me, but not a deal breaker. I am really enjoying the characters and their designs this season, and I am so excited to see more!

I don't mind the fighting being dropped in the slightest. While some Precure fights are great with stellar animation, most of them are very forgettable scenes only there to show off the stock animation. Chases are still action sequences and the ones we've had so far have been fun! I personally never came to Precure for the fights and the fandom's obsession with exclusively selling the show to others with the fight scenes both oversells the amount of dynamic action and undersells the other fun stuff about Precure. Precure doesn't NEED fight scenes to be Precure and I like seeing the formula get shaken up every once and awhile! I also agree with your take on the Kira Kira fights.

In my opinion, physical fights this season could still happen if they introduce a set of villain generals that aren't corrupted animals.
And also this coming episode they are getting their wands so maybe that can make for more creative chase scenes. Right now I'm in that camp of waiting to see if anything changes lol, but I hope the staff doesnt get lazy with the chase scenes, because that is equally as bad as a lot of the lazy fights we've been getting recently.
I think right now my greater concern with this season is so far Komugi doesn't feel like a lead cure to me (Iroha does), and that has potential for a great character arc. But I agree with you saying that we are still only at the beginning, anything can change from now. So I'm not gonna give up on this season and judge it so early

Thanks for your opinion. It's kinda even more loaded than I'd expected, partially that you allude by the end that while it IS a franchise targeting children, that it's also playing for a lot of older crowds. I'm honestly fine with a full season/year of difference since I've dipped my toes in the Tokusatsu genre, which flips between DARK EDGY VIOLENCE and Kid-friendly hi-jinx as well; even moreso this year with Sentai having a 2 parter epic kingdom story season right after a 50+ ep adult life drama.
It's kind of a Powerpuff Girls -or better yet a Brony- situation where a definitely kid show premise attracted an adult and/or male audience. Which winds up having a lot of deeper community rumblings tbh. I don't mind that Precure gets to be "for the kids" once in a while, even more so that it's conflicts have a chance to be dealt with Non-Violently (something a lot of the Actiony Toku Hero shows kinda aren't allowed to, Ultraman would've REALLY benefited from a peaceful climatic ending this year).
Still this also touches on an almost Sociological aspect that's been making waves of Action/Adult/Shounen themes creeping into SoL/Children/Shoujo cultural space and just recently re-ignited another Twitter discourse where parts of the Precure community are pretty resentful of "any" violent show and start equally treating stuff like Madoka or even Go Princess as "only popular for meatheads".
Not to throw more spilt tea in your direction but I do think PreCure walking the line winds up having two distinct, almost conflicting communities constantly come up (hopefully it's just a Twitter thing and not as bad anywhere else) but "Violent Content" beyond being a subject of preference ALSO becomes a cultural marker for some people of if "this show is FOR me" and such

It's a shame this has to be so controversial in the first place. You're right that we're only four episodes in, and perhaps we will see some more hand-to-hand techniques in later chases, but even if we don't get a single punch or kick, the heart of PreCure is still here. Wonderful has just as much to enjoy in its characters, humour and designs as previous seasons, and not giving it a chance because it lacks combat means that a lot of fans are going to miss out on what could be a really fun time. I totally get wanting to watch animation purely for the spectacle - I've done it myself with other shows - but please no chastising the writers for going in a different direction. Critique how combat could be implemented in better ways? Of course! Just keep it civil. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it :)

I do enjoy Precure's combat action sequences, but there's room for other options and I'm interested to see how this one works and potentially develops. There's still chance that there will be some combat and or fancy special move sequences.

I will say I don't mind so much that we don't have combat this season as long as the action is good like we saw in episode 4. Aldough, I'm neutral on this topic I do think in the long run it will benefit this season. As a new pretty cure fan the most jaring things when I first entred the fandom was being bombarded by all of this characters, that all look kinda similar that punch and kick in the same way. But then there was Kira Kira who compared to the others has a very strong identity, not only with their theme but also in the way they fight. Not saying that every PC season should be like this, but I think that from time to time is good to have a season that breaks the mold and tries something diffrent

i think precure is like the only classic magical girl show left you know full transformation sequences magical items etc. but the lack of action is really sad that was the main appeal since the start and i think removing it is just dumb i hope this is like a kira kira situacion when they do a season with no action and after the backlash they back off and bunisness is back to normal i hope toei sees that the action is important (although the franchise has lower sales so i hope toei has something big to remedi that)

I can see why folks would be upset, given that this was originally meant to be an action show marketed for girls - even my gut reaction was "wait, it was a big deal for young girls to have this back in the day!" But then I recalled that this show has been running for 21 seasons, and I can imagine the creator wanting to take it in a new direction after so many years. The action-based episodes still exist, other media inspired by Precure exists, and doing a season focused more on empathy and petting cute animals honestly sounds like a good call these days. Why not try something different and soothing?

Guy here. The reason why i started watching precure was the character designs were interesting (that's why i love watching kids shows, the designs are unique and why splash star and fresh are last on my to watch list).
When i started watching I was surprised by the action and fighting scenes, and learned that cute girls that throw punches was the brand of precure.
That being said, and I have to admit i have yet to make time to watch wonderful, i dont mind it, if they are "fighting" animals in pain makes sense, its good to teach kids that, and to deescalate situations. On top that one girl is a dog? It would be too close to dog fights.
This also intrigues me for future crossovers, how they approach will fit with teams focused on flights.
Also, my favorite magical girl is Cardcaptor Sakura, and that has so little fighting, and I watching for the relationship and lore.

I will say that I used to think that the action didn't matter to me that much to me until I saw Kira Kira and its fight scenes. The problem with that show to me was not the whipped cream throwing and dessert attacks but the lack of impact in the combat. Whenever those characters returned in movies from what I've seen, especially in All Stars F, the attacks had an impact. They seemed like they were actually hurting the enemy, not just hitting them with fluffy stuff. I don't mind this show having chase scenes as long as they are imaginative. The difference between chasing and fighting is that if all you do is chase and don't add something to make it interesting, then having those scenes just won't matter. It's fine not to have punches and kicks but, if you don't you kinda have to be more creative. Now this isn't a knock-against
the show. I've only watched the first two episodes and have decided to wait a bit to catch up but I do think it's weird that the two animal-based shows in the franchise are the ones without the hand-to-hand combat. Them being animal-based would seem to me like they should focus MORE on combat due to all of the things you can do with that concept. Idk I just think it's strange. But besides that, I'm excited to see what this season has in store, it doesn't look like it's one for me BUT I am more than happy to keep an open mind and watch it unless I feel like I just really don't like it. I've enjoyed the episodes I've seen so far and will watch the other two later in the week. Hopefully, it can keep my attention.

(Disclaimer: This comment was written before watching the video and I then realized you said a lot of the same things I said.)
Funny thing for me is, as someone who mostly watches the series for the character interactions and the comedy, with a particular fondness for silly art shifts...
I could take or leave the fights most of the time? Like, don't get me wrong, occasionally we will indeed get some pretty awesome action scenes, but I feel like more often than not, the fights are kinda there out of obligation and feel sort of disconnected from the plot of the episode? The back half of Hirogaru Sky was particularly guilty of this, with several episodes where Minoton or Skearhead would just come in *after* the plot had already been resolved, just so that we could have a fight scene. (With the "How did Mashiro and Ageha meet?" episode being the quintessential example, feeling almost like a *parody* of tacked-on fights.)
So far, the chase scenes in Wonderful have not really felt like a big step down to me. Like, we got a really well animated sequence in episode 1, followed by some more limited stuff in the following episodes and... to me that just feels like it's *always* the case in recent years, whether the action setpieces include fighting or just chasing rampaging monsters around?
...Point is, fights or no figths, Wonderful has been *fun.*

Much as I love precure and the designs/characters of the current season, I do watch it for the battles as much as the storyline and characters. I’m disheartened to hear this season is intentionally veering away from fighting. Why should I watch a series about legendary warriors who just play Chase/Tag?
Maybe it’s the season to bow out of the fandom. I feel like my wallet will be happy.

  • @p4riah

i consider precures traditions of hand to hand combat very important, because i think there should be media for girls that explore 'traditionally masculine' things like violence. girls should have media designed for them that shows both the ambiguity of violence, but also shows heroines that literally fight for what is right, and to use violence to protect others. boys arent the only ones who should have media that explores this. that said, im VERY ok with this season experimenting in this way. precure has a formula, but part of that formula is experimenting and trying new things.
i also enjoyed kira kira, but mostly for the characters rather than the fights. they did a good job of weaving character arcs into the fights most of the time so there was still a reason to watch them, but the fact that there was no combat plus the fact that everyone still had stock animation attacks we saw over and over again kinda did get old. still a decent season overall, IMO. wonderful has the chance to do something different, since theres no stock animation attacks to use over and over again, they have the chance to make each chase scene a bespoke action sequence with more sakuga and less stock animation. the animation for one or two of the chases were pretty good so far. if they spend the animation budget, these sequences could be quite fresh. we'll have to wait and see how this shakes out week to week, and if they run out of animation budget.
story wise, i think its an interesting idea. these precures are more like wildlife vets or forest rangers wrangling potentially dangerous wild animals for their own good. its an interesting angle and fits the themes well. it also occurs to me that once we find out where the garugaru are coming from, we might get a villain that they have to fight, which would be a different scenario for the precures since they havent learned how to do that yet. thats one other consequence of this choice, so far we havent had any villain generals to banter with our heroes. in many precure seasons entertaining, well written generals were sometimes the absolute highlight for me, so this season is missing out on that, and will have to put that energy elsewhere.
overall im definitely here for whatever theyre doing with this. its different and interesting, and we'll need to see where this goes. im a strong proponent of precure fighting and using violence for justice, but the ppl who are losing it over this need to chill out a bit and just see what happens. its not the end of the world to have a season or two that explores a different type of action, and im sure precures will be punching badguys in the face again soon enough.

Hello! New to your page, just watched a few videos and subscribed! I love your insight and opening the floor to discussion. I read many comments, but didn't see anyone make one point that is very near and dear to my heart about Precure. I apologize if I missed one of someone bringing this up already! ( For anyone reading - a trigger warning about abuse! ) .....
While I think the new direction is cute and sweet, unfortunately I feel like too much media targeted at little girls teaches them to forgive and love everyone, even those who have or are attempting to hurt them - and for me Precure was different. Even media I adore such as Cardcaptor gives abusers a free pass. Precure says it's OK to protect yourself, it's OK to protect your friends. It's ok to love your enemies even, but still defend yourself from them. Set boundaries, and if someone crosses it punch them! As someone who grew up with abuse, seeing something like Precure at a younger age would've helped me immensely... and I think it's an important message to retain in a day and age where adults blame children for fighting back / speaking out against their abusers and/or bullies. It is therapeutic for me to see magical girls - the role models of my childhood, known for being strong in heart - that can also be strong in body. Too often girls are made to feel that having muscles or being athletic is a bad thing - and Precure challenges those preconceptions.
Anyways, thank you to anyone who read my little rant! Precure is very dear to me, and I will show it to my future children so they can learn to be kind, loving and stand up for themselves just like the Cures. :)

Personally, I’m fine with “chase action” over punching and kicking. My only problem is for me, the chases have been boring so far - just a lot of running and not much else. Cure Wonderful’s first chase was fine, but you’d expect that from the premiere episode.
But chases CAN be interesting if done well. There’s a reason chase scenes are so iconic in cinema, they gave birth to the phrase “cut to the chase”, meaning “skip to the best (or most important) part”. Sure, most movie chase scenes are in cars, but there have also been some on foot.
Regardless, the key to a good chase scene is incorporating elements like bystanders, eye-catching scenery (that may or may not be destroyed), and attacks from the pursued (usually gunfire, but we can replace that with magic beams). A few episodes of Wonderful have included these, but not all of them at once. If Toei put those elements together in each episode (or most of them), I think “chase action” can be a good replacement for fights.

One of precure's draws to me has been it's dynamic animation and sakuga, so I think they can make the action exciting even if the cures never actually fight.

  • @elipsis7651

In theory, it could be fun to have chase sequences instead of battles. However, so far, all the girls do is run around until the Garugaru tires itself out/suddenly feels bad, it's like the precure themselves have no agency or impact on the conflict, nothing to do. They could just stand to the side and wait until the Garugaru stops, which isn't a good thing.
The latest episode actually does do something interesting though. Not only is the Garugaru not a big, hulking monster, but the precure have to stop and think about how they will approach it instead of running around like normal. They also jump into action to save the Garugaru from a car, which is probably the most the precure have done in these chase sequences so far.

as someone who recently started watching Precure (only Tropical Rouge, am watching KiraKira and Wanderful), and big tokusatsu fan, I'm really enjoying Wonderful.
I Know it`s not really gonna have much fights, and honestly I'm here because of how fun it is to watch all this characters interact. Sure, I do enjoy having a great batlle sequence (that's what I really love Kamen Rider for, and something that really turned me down from Shin Kamen Rider was how little practical fight scenes there were), but I'm not gonna sit here and say that Manatsu having a breakdown on the last episode didn't make me cry, or how Cure Parfait is a character I'm really liking because of her interactions with her brother and Vibri, how most of the connecting tissue and probably my favourite part of Precure is how cute and happy it all is.
Second of all, I watch Super Sentai and Kamen Rider weekly with a friend of mine, and I wanted to start watching precure too (after all, they all release around the same time every week), and he's not been the most thrilled. Sure, he likes the funny aspects, but he's not the biggest fan of it, he once said it feels like the least interesting of the three, but one thing we agreed on is how sure, people might not like the "resolution by talking over and becoming friends", might look lame, but when the villain is a victim of something that makes them like that, it works really well.
Also, while it might be moving away from fights, it doesn't mean that the series won't have. There was something that transformed all the cute marketable animals into monsters, and that attacked Nico Garden, and my guess is that we might really have some fight scenes with the big bad of the season.
Also, something about making so many series like how Precure, Sentai or Kamen Rider does, is how they can experiment with different things, see how it works, see how they can make it better, and it doesn't ever mean it'll stay. Avataro Sentai Donbrothers experimented with having CGI Rangers in the main cast, and it threw a lot of people off, to the point that they didn't watch it, but it still turned out as one of the best there is (I really recommend it). Wonderful might still be really great, we just have to wait and see what they do with it.

Its heartwarming and adorable! I love the idea of them not hurting the animals and instead soothing them. I also love the theme of bonding and friendship between animals and humans and one of main themes of Precure is friendship. Full disclosure that Hirogaru is the only season I've watched fully before this, but I've sampled some of the earlier seasons and I genuinely love and have made it a point to highlight how... well, wonderful it is that the plot of the week is solved not through punching the bad thing till it stops moving but displays of empathy, reassurance, and understanding. These are real, transferable skills that kids and adults can take with them when resolving conflict in their daily lives and for my money, I find it a refreshing and beautiful change to the status quo. I'd much rather we increase shows advocating for deescalation through thoughtful, patient displays of care throughout every demographic than model shows for young girls after the more popular, more profitable vehicle of shounen punch-outs. (I understand there's a case to be made for combat as catharsis, especially for women and young girls, this is just my preference!)

  • @LadyRegalli
    @LadyRegalli 9 месяцев назад

Something that occurred to me lately with the Garugarus is that it's not just "we don't want to promote animal abuse" but also a way to minimize the chances of KIDS potentially getting hurt as well. Messing with an animal who you don't KNOW to be extremely gentle (especially the way young kids can hurt an animal without really realizing what they're doing) can be dangerous. If two kids get into a fight playing Precure or something, they're both going to get in trouble for it and told not to... but they're not as likely to need a trip to the HOSPITAL as a kid who tries to fight even a fairly small dog and gets bitten for it.
By comparison, the "let's hug the poor hurt animal" idea is still... not entirely without danger, if you don't know the animal well, but we've seen Iroha be cautious with new and injured animals who aren't Garugaru (Komugi being the most notable in the flashbacks,) and given Yuki was named because they met on a snowy day, I think we might see the same thing with her and Mayu. So they're modeling that behavior under normal, non-superpowered circumstances, and routinely addressing the idea that the Garugaru is hurt and scared and they should try to be gentle even though they're chasing the animal down so everyone else is safe.
In other words, I think once this season was going to be about pets and animals as the primary focus, and ESPECIALLY once the monster of the week designs were animals as well, downplaying the action sequences and cutting the fight aspect became a safety issue. And I definitely enjoy the fight scenes when they're used creatively or done well - I actually really enjoyed Tropical Rouge's goofy ones, and while I'm still pretty early in Heartcatch, I've liked the fights I've seen from it so far. Watching Tokyo Mew Mew New was weird realizing that the Mews NEVER directly attack the monsters in any way, even using smaller forms of their powers or something - it's always ENTIRELY evasion or the attacks with their weapons - and going "Yeah, I guess that would be faithful to the original, because that WAS something Precure generally added to the genre."
But I don't mind them taking a break for a season after two back-to-back leads with punches for their finishers, and I think under the circumstances this was the best move in terms of "this is in fact a kids' show with this specific theming." I definitely hope the chases are well-choreographed as the season goes on, but I'm enjoying things so far. And I think it's WAY too early to say anything about the season's quality as a whole for a show that'll run all year. (By comparison: I'm on episode 13 of Heartcatch, so almost twice as far as there are episodes of Wonderful THIS WEEK. And by Episode 12, yeah, we've met Dark Precure and know Yuri's Cure Moonlight, but I'm only JUST NOW starting to hit the things I know make Heartcatch special. If I didn't know spoilers, I'd think it was a perfectly fine season but wouldn't necessarily expect it to knock my socks off. The first ten or so episodes are SO EARLY.)

I've been considering watching Precure exactly because I heard it was less violent/high stakes/edgy than other magical girl anime, so this is great for me. 😂

As far as it was going.... Wonderful PreCure IS SO CUTE I FORGET THE FIGHTS... Can we just appreciate animals... CAN EE JUST APPRECIATE HOW CUTE KUMOGI IS? LIKE SHE'S A DOG BARKING WAN WAN
Edit: This season is so warm and comforting so far, sometimes it really feels like a warm hug

I come after the "battle", and i know doreimani won't see this message, but for me no fight is a big "faux pas" from wonderful precure. For two reasons, the frist is because in the long term all the chase sequence seem the same, we can also say that for battle scene, but in my taste, we can play more with battle scene in term of staging.
The second reason is... well because is the ADN of precure. Futari wa precure was the mahou shojo who energize the all genre and make a so big impression than we can say today, it one of the big franchise of mahou shojo with sailor moon and magical doremi. It like if they make a kamen rider series without battle or the kick final move, it wierd, it can work but have a low chance.

I totally respect your opinion and it’s very true I guess for me it’s just that the series was so cool because it was one of the few magical girl shows that wasn’t too bloody or overly done but the fight scenes made it badass. Like pretty girls in awesome costumes who can still fight crime. So idk it def is weird. I don’t mind switching the formula up like they did in sky in terms of team building or even adding boys but it just feels weird to me. I do hope this is the only season this happens lol and not something that happens every season because if so, it might not be for me I guess but it doesn’t change the seasons I love because, truthfully, even Kira Kira had amazing scenes or animation with jumping dodging and even using their weapons but if the way to save the day is just going to be a hug, I don’t know if it’s for me lol and I grew up watching magical girl anime too and I just always liked pretty cure because it was different. In that regard. I’m not going to hate on the show, but I also won’t force myself to watch the season. I know I probably won’t enjoy as much because to be honest I didn’t care for the costumes that much anyway.

some people dont want to admit they watch cartoons for little girls just they say they watch it for the action or because its actually really serious, people already think cartoons are dumb and even the people who really likes cartoon also thinks cartoon for children are dumb :((

Honestly I've always found most fight scenes boring, when i was a kid i skipped them in books. Its why i find older majokko series fun because the conflicts are solved in other ways. I also like mixtures like Princess Tutu but that was dancing which i generally find interesting

I honestly don't like their approach, and the "chase actions" aren't even that good either. Teaching kids that "hugging it out" isn't always going to work especially when they're dealing with dangerous animals, unless if they're professionals. Besides, previous Precure seasons have fought agsinst animals before with their fists. Why did they suddenly became so soft here? I skipped watching this season and just watch the review instead.

Wonderful Precure is disappointing because of the no hand to hand fighting (excluding the decent acrobatic dodging…) but I also think the characters are fun, quirky and i like their pet/owner dynamic.

I have to admit it...I did not finished Tropical Rouge because it was too silly (me being too silly myself lol) BUT not everything is for everybody and tap out of a season is still an option, there's always a new season the next year. Also we have seen some changes in precure that are one-offs unfortunately for some cases (like only 1 dark skinned precure and 1 boy in 20 years) so the whole debacle is a lil much for both ends knowing next year will be different. That being said it did took me a minute to accept that there's no fighting action in this season but knowing they're literally *curing* little scared and cruelly cursed animals, I could not bare the idea of hurting them. So far I've been having a lot of fun with this season and actually having just hard days and in the globe so many awful things happening, watching a show portraying compassion and communication is in fact healing in my case. PS. we're still 3 episodes in everybody, let's chill. We will definitely have purification scenes with their magical items and maybe idk we'll get a human general who's in charge of this curse so the precures can fight them off? We literally have a whole year to go lol

Some people were complaining about how most Precure fights in recent seasons were pretty lackster (*cough* *cough* Azenzone), so I'm okay with this season not doing fights. Precure is so much more than its action, and I dislike people looking down at certain seasons due to a lack of violence. Honestly, I don't know why the fandom is having this debate yet again. It's a bit silly

This season is getting boring and lame. I wouldn't mind the hugging-comforting corrupted animal thing if only they threw a couple of fights in it.

I was never shocked that the cures punches monsters and villains. It's not wrong, thoses characters were evil so punching and kicking them was the right thing to do. It's cool to see the differents magic the cures uses; thier weapons or elements; Peace thunder, Flora's rose tourbillon, Happyness hurricane, Beauty blizzard etc.
If the message is don't hurt animals; it's a good lesson BUT not well done to me. The garugaru's are attacking Wonderful who is a dog. So... humans attacking animals is wrong but animals attacking a dog is fine? That's weird 🤨

I started watching Pretty Cure more regularly when I was 12 and drew me in was seeing girls around my age kicking @$$ in high heels and skirts giving DBZ a run for its money.I think the last great hand-to-hand combat season was Princess Go Precure. The message to me when I was a tween was that you could look pretty while being a bad @$$.If I want to watch people running that's what the gym is for.I've mostly aged out of Precure though.I'll still watch the transformations but the writing is on the wall for me.

Honestly. The lack of fight scenes in this season isn't the main reason I'm gonna skip this season. I understand why it's not a thing here. I just didn't found this season's theming and messages interesting.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure most of people will enjoy this season, maybe even more than others. I just have low interest in cats and dogs and the theme of friendship... It didn't hooked me.

I honestly feel burned out watching all these newer Precure seasons. I feel like Precure has lost what made it special in the first place. Sure, if the chase scenes are done right, I won’t be bothered, but I just feel so bored. I don’t JUST want to watch cute puppies and kittens, that’s not why I’m watching this season, I like Precure because if it’s uniqueness.
Now, it just feels off. I’m sorry.
