  • This was a small fun project, of how to make a Filament enclosure, from a cereal storage box, to keep your filaments dry.
    You can download the design from here: thangs.com/mar...
    For each individual Filament Bunker you need:
    - 1 x cereal container
    - 4 x bearings
    - 1 x about 50cm (20”) of PTFE tube
    - 1 x PTFE connector (for 4mm OD PTFE tube)
    - 50 grams (1/2 cup) of Silica beads
    - 3D Printed Parts (1 x Base, 1 x Silica Lid, 2 x Cylinders). No supports needed for printing.
    Cereal containers (good for 750 grams Spools), try getting the one below instead: geni.us/pSLAo
    I recommend to get the new containers instead (good for 1 Kg Spools): geni.us/nrcXpYG
    I will try to update soon the design to fit 1 KG Spools.
    The existing V2 design is still compatible with these new Spools (will just hold 750 grams Spools)
    The volume of both containers is 4 liters (16.9 Cups, 135.3oz), DO NOT GET the smaller version!
    Using regular 608 ZZ (or 2RS) skateboard bearings:
    - pack of 10: geni.us/uLMvbQ
    - or pack of 100: geni.us/OiChoH
    PTFE tube and connectors. I recommend 3mm ID / 4mm OD, but you can also use regular 2mm ID / 4mm OD
    (ID - Inner Diameter, OD - Outer Diameter)
    - 3mm ID / 4mm OD: geni.us/NIfXBG4
    - 2mm ID / 4mm OD: geni.us/4YjDen
    Silica Beads: geni.us/mRIfUM
    Or get them in 5g packages: geni.us/5Bfq

    You can add a small cloth mesh or membrane covering for silica to keep them intact. Or can find a similar pouch in the market. They do this for many products to save them from moisture.

    I tried with PLA and it breaks off very easily when trying to snap in the roller. PETG would work best.

    • @marsgizmo
      @marsgizmo  4 года назад +7

      Thanks for the feedback 🙌😁with some PLAs I agree, much safer with PETG. I will update the design, to shorter the "pins" and add some extra features 😎I will post an update in a few days after testing the new design.

      @@marsgizmo Is there any chance, you can increase the width to fit larger spools. I ordered the same cereal container and the width it 3.3" and the larger spool is 3" so they should fit. Have you tested large spools -> 1kg size. The rollers you designed are about 2.25" which I think you said on your insta page is for small spools.

    • @marsgizmo
      @marsgizmo  4 года назад +2

      @@timb3970 yes, I can do for sure :) This is indeed for small spools, this was the maximum width for the Cereal box which I found. They have wider zones but most have a carve inside and will limit the spool size. Do you have a I have a link to bigger boxes? :)

    • @marsgizmo
      @marsgizmo  3 года назад +1

      @@sparks-tech indeed, I'm using them since more than 2 years now 😊 but it's not very convenient when you have multiple filaments, printers as they always have paired together 2 spools and the box it a bit big.
      But definitely useful, especially when you have very wide spools. 🙂

    I use a food dehydrator on any filament that’s been sitting for more than a month. Overnight about 12 hours and at the top level. Works like a champ. Bonus is that I can make beef jerky with it too.

      @@simonharte7530 it's automatically levelling the bed before each print, to make sure you get a perfect first layer each time. What printer do you have? You can get the kit for your printer, which usually include the right cable length, connectors and mounting adapters. You can get it from Amazon or Banggood.
