I've never got the digital hype.... what's more convenient than getting it from the shelve and putting the disc in the player?!!? No buffering no logging in no nothing. And don't even get me started on the quality difference and all. Physical media is king and that's a fact.

    • @MoviesAreRad

Don’t forget the scratches, smudges, poorly produced discs. Then there’s the players that breakdown or have missing features.
FWIW, I have a physical collection.

    • @MentalDeviant
      @MentalDeviant 3 месяца назад

@@robertt9342 I always check my discs so it's pretty rare that I have an issue with the desk. And my players pretty much work all the time. Plus if you're a gamer like me then each system is a Blu-ray player and now a 4K player these days. Actually one of the best 4K players for cheap is an Xbox One X with the remote. If you just want standard HDR.

I discarded my films library in 2013
I let go of some excellent flicker shows in that purge
I owned a variety of VHS that I didn't realize would be somewhat difficult to replace
At the time I thought I was done with movies
Maybe I thought it was something I should grow out of
    I was wrong
It turns out that owning and enjoying flicks is a wonderful life-long interest/pursuit
    After awhile
I came to remember the immense pleasure in introducing masterpiece films (that had somehow gone unseen) to the close people in my life
Truly a delightful thing to share with one another
Thus I have begun to rebuild
Now my concern is that hopefully the new herd won't get out of hand!
    Thank you
    Good show
    Great job!

*"Digital" is a plague that goes across so many facets,* not just media, you don't really own a car that can have featres disabld with an update, the same way movies disappear from your digital collection. Rentin software instead of buyin it, some speakers that stop workin when they disconnect it from the server for bein old - not even bluetooth.
    Say no to "digital" 👌🏽
You can browse someone's collection the same way we browsed at blockbuster, you are more likely to discover hidden gems or just spark a conversation about a movie and how it made you feel, what it made you think.

I hate those binders, as you pay for the DVD packaging and you just toss it out. Makes searching for them harder, damages them and it's just tacky. A shelf with cases makes a place into a home.
Another mistake is buying DVDs instead of blurays or 4K blurays when available.
I will say, unless you know you love it, just rent or stream it first. I only buy what I love.

I went with storage cases during my DVD days... so almost all my all of my 400 DVD's are in 4 Cases and I've been adding Blurays in as well - I do need the space. Now my rule is if the Bluray/DVD disc doesn't come in with a slip, box set, digibook etc. I rip it to my Plex system, then put them in the case (with the cover art). I'll probably start doing that w/ 4Ks that have no slips, etc... I need the space, no more room for shelves. When I got my 4K TV I started down the streaming/Digital path, fortunately not too far before I discovered the issues with compression - especially on the audio side.

I went all digital around 2013/2014 as well, Ultraviolet and the 5 friend slots thing got me. I only just came to my senses at the beginning of the year and have invested a bunch on physical media and a huge 8 bay NAS to back them all up onto. I did get one of those DVD carrier albums, but it was after much consideration, I will NOT get rid of the case, but it's more convenient for traveling, just to put a few of the movies I know I'll want to see in it, carry it with me on the trip, and return them to their proper cases when I get home. I don't want to break the cases by cramming them in my stuff, so the DVD carrier helps compress it, and since it's a small one (only like 25), it's not that floppy either.

Physical media only for me. I grew up in the 1970's (pre "woke" and "politically correct" ) back before there was even video tape or any type of home video format. I now have an extrensive collection of DVD, Blu Ray and UHD and I love it. I love the disc extras : commentaries, trailers, alternate cuts, etc, and I love having the artwork, inserts and booklets and all. I decide what and when I want to watch, not dependent on downloads or other outside providers. And my collection consists primarily of grade-B films and other world oddball movies, small label releases that the download companies would never access or consider making available.
Physical media forever. Just make sure to have extra, working disc players so it can all be used and enjoyed in the decades ahead even after we ourselves are gone.
