From what I can tell, this is a well composed timeline. The videos on this channel are overall very high quality, especially considering how much information has to be worked with. This video features a lot of World War II since that's when tank doctrine was undergoing rapid evolution, especially on the Eastern front. You can see especially interesting developments after 1941, when the Germans underwent an, "anti-tank crisis", mainly due to the arrival of heavily armored Russian tanks in large numbers. The Germans responded by placing focus on tanks that could destroy tanks, Jagdpanzer, tank hunters. Long story short, their success was very limited in this area and it led to some peculiar, hasty designs. This included the infamously nose-heavy Jagdpanzer IV, a tank which had significant problems in rough terrain. The American thesis "Building Guderian's Duck" is an interesting read if you're interested in that area. For a more complete history of World War II German armored warfare recommend Thomas L. I am actually quite suprised at the amount of Panther tanks produced. I did not think it would be around 6k, considering how limited the germany´s ressources were by that point in the war and the production span of 2 years. Instead I would have estimated that around 4000 were made... Just crazy
That’s a myth,Germans had shit ton of steel and still were able to import Swedish iron ores until late 1944,only 10% of the military expenditures were went into tanks and other armored vehicles. Most people tend to underestimate size of German economy and industry during WW2. For me it’s quite opposite. It’s incredible how many tanks Soviets were able to produce despite having much lesser resources than Germans besides oil and rare minerals.

@@LughtMon Not that much, it was just a long list of minor upgrades to the tank. Ferdinand is already a very problematic tank from the start. Few patches right and there wont fix it.
It's crazy to think that the Germans weren't even stronger because Hitler underestimated the enemy. Heavy tank research was already available in 1936 (VK 30.01 (H)), but the Tiger 1 didn't arrive until 1942. Imagine invading the USSR in 1941 with Tiger and Panther?
PzKpfw 38 was czechoslovak, not german. Its first name was LT-38 (Lehký Tank - Light Tank). Fun fact: It's considered to be the best light tank of the WW2.
@@bs2202 Due to the limitations of requirements and resources, the tank was a functional failure. By using a large tractor as a base, and bolting on a hastily designed and poorly constructed tank superstructure, the resultant tanks were inadequately armored, extremely heavy (20-25 ton), unstable, restricted by tractor gearing to slow speeds, and had to stop to change gears. Furthermore, due to the shape of the underlying tractor and undue vibrations, shooting from the tank was both difficult and inevitably inaccurate.[8] All of these limitations have often caused the Bob Semple Tank to be regarded as "the worst tank ever built". - Wikipedia. PzKpfw 35, PzKpfw 38 and Hetzer are from Czechoslovakia. Other interesting Czechoslovak tanks from WW2 are T32 ŠID, T21, Vz33, AH-IV and LT40.
The interwar vechicles are missing. LK II, Grosstraktor, Kleintraktor, Neubaufahrzeug...
@@AFT_05Gyeah, Germans were doing pretty good in terms of raw materials and still had a fairly effective industry. Steel quality wasn’t great though since they ran out of manganese, nickel and chromium and instead had to use vanadium.
... how limited the German* ressources / how limited Germany's* ressources were ...
The Panther was A LOT cheaper and easier to make than a Panzer 4

K T same tank, the Elefant is just a modified Ferdinand which was the plan for most of them
Elefant is just a modified version of the Ferdinand tank destroyer. It was upgraded with fixed machine guns and other minor upgrades including increasing the overall frontal armour thickness.

Best light tank was Bob Semple you idiot. Please educate yourself

Germans weren't allowed to research nor field armored vehicles due to the Treaty of Versailles.

@@umbertospinelli6285 in 1940, the Italians in Africa had more powerfull tanks than the british, the only tank that's stopped italian tanks was the matilda, thr QF with 40mm was outdated for the A13 and the crusader tanks, but the industry of Italy like many countries can't make some very good tanks, we will await for the m15/42, that's it can penetrate 60mm of armor to 500 metres, that was good for a 47mm gun, the progetto P=heavy was not good, that's the Italians consider a shitty tank with 26 tonnes is a heavy tank, must look to the tiger, it has over 50 tonnes.
