    It is so ironic how this was the very first video I watched on Saturday morning while drinking a hot cup of coffee!

    I really wish youtube recommended your more recent videos on this topic, instead of a 10 year old SolidWorks release haha. The fundamentals are the same though, still found it useful.

    Great video goengineer! I have a question thou, at 2:49 when you set convection coefficient, how do u determine what value to use as its 5-25 for air?

    Hi, thanks for sharing. I was wondering, is it there is a way to simulate the heat transfer between the liquid and the air without the lid?
    Thanks

    Hi. Actually, you could remove the liquid and place an assumed convection coefficient on the top surface of the liquid. However, we put on the lid in order to use the initial condition of inner walls - which only works on "fluid enclosed space" - so without the lid there would not be fluid-enclosed space.

    In a flow simulation of fluid flowing in a series of pipes, in a region of high turbulence in the pipe, how can I find the velocity of flow at a certain point in the high turbulent region over a period of time. Say for example, velocity at that point at 5 seconds, 10 sconds, 15 seconds, etc? Please I'd appreciate a response.
    Thank you!

    What material are you applying to the "lid" part? The convection/conduction mechanics in that part will influence the flow characteristics so I'm wondering how this was handled. I tried this simulation with one, modeled part with the lid as a feature and the natural convection paths are not coming out correct at all. Everything else including the boundary, initial, material, etc conditions are the exact same. Granted, my geometry is different, but natural convection flow should like natural convection regardless.
    Also, at what time step are you observing the flow? Since this is a transient analysis it takes time to develop and the initial seconds won't look as nice as what you show in the video.

    Hi M. Botting ... I really appreciate your video, but there is one particular simulation I would like to see and that I'm having trouble with ... Could you help? I would like to CFD the sun radiating on a surface, in my case, a cylindrical tube, so to read the inside wall temperature. How do I setup this simulation for it seems I can't get it right. Could you show us (Me)??? ... Thanks ... Luc (Faads)

    I tied to follow all the steps in this video, except that my model is different but i'm unable to set boundary conditions the way the video shows. i.e. my tree doesn't give me an option for "Initial Boundary Condition" as shown in the video. Please Advise.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Rohit,
      If you do not see the "Initial Condition" option in your flow tree then you would want to double check that the project's "General Settings" have "Time-dependent" enable. If it is enabled then you can always define an "Initial Condition" by going into 'Tools', 'Flow Simulation', 'Insert', "Initial Condition".

    Are there any sites or links that may have built up a database of fluids or solid material properties that may not be in the current pre-defined library but could be added to the user-defined area. I am looking for Lead (Pb) in liquid and solid state.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 года назад

      There are various material libraries like matweb available to characterize solid properties. For fluid properties especially involving problems about phase change, you might have some luck with looking through publications like Elsevier or google scholar. Thanks.

    Why the heat transfer coefficient is 25 W/m2K? How did you calculate it? Or is it just an assumption for the sake of the simulation demo?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 года назад

      It is an assumption for the sake of a speedy calculation. Flow Simulation could alternatively also have airflow outside the mug and calculate the heat transfer coefficient for us, and how it would vary across those mug faces.

    Can flow simulation back out convection coefficients or convective heat transfer?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад

      Hi Connor,
      Flow Simulation is able to both visualize (via "Surface Plots") and give numerical data (via "Surface Parameters") for "Heat Transfer Coefficient (W/m^2/K)" as well as "Surface Heat Flux (W/m^2)".

    not able locate initial condition on left side tree

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад

      The initial condition link needs to be added to the Flow Simulation tree. This can be done by right-clicking on the name of the project at the top of the Flow Simulation tree (right above the input data link) and selecting customize tree. The initial condition link can then be checked on in the list that appears. Thank you for watching.

    How to create the cover in the mug ??

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Ameer,
      The cover of the mug is created using an Extrude Boss command on a plane positioned at the top of the mug. The Extrude is made to merge onto the cup body to create a sealed interior space for the analysis. The process for this can be seen here (ruclips.net/video/zc_S013A6Gc/видео.html).
