- D'Urville Island has to be the best Blue Cod fisheries in New Zealand, and given blue cod are one of the tastiest fish in New Zealand waters, we are looking for a few big blue beauties to take home with us for dinner. After staying the night in the beautiful Okiwi Bay, we spend a long day on the water targeting blue cod. Not only do we catch and release 50+ blue cod, but we also have a few other species on our lines - tarakihi, perch, barracuda and a huge ray! D'Urville Island is a wild area with strong tides, big swells and strong winds for most of the year, but in all our years fishing this location, this trip provided a best conditions we've had on the water here. Our fourth episode of our Big Island Boat Tour focuses on our time in Okiwi Bay and D'Urville Island, but you can watch the earlier episodes of our Big Island Boat Tour on The Angler's Logbook RUclips channel - we have a whole playlist dedicated to the tour. Next week we drive to the Tasman Bay in pursuit of snapper!
Our BIG ISLAND BOAT TOUR will cover the majority of the South Island, and we will be visiting picturesque fishing towns and filming our experiences to share with you over the next few episodes. We're so excited to bring you this awesome footage, so do us a favour and subscribe to our channel so you don't miss any of the action!
We drop new videos every week exploring different parts of New Zealand as we go fishing, hunting, travelling and making the most of any other adventure we find along the way.

I've been to Okiwi and D'Urvlle and it's amazing!
It's an incredible place, can't wait to head back there soon!
Definitely travel to bluff and go to stewart island and go fishing on stewart island. Amazing blue cod that is much bigger than what you're catching and way more abundant
Planning to go there and check it out in the near future 🤙🏼 Can’t wait!
Nice day, you were very close to a spot that produces BIG snapper (and stingrays by the looks)
Good to know! Looking forward to getting back there soon 🤙🏼
Beautiful spot, what sound track did you use for this video its good?
It’s one of my favourite places to go fishing! Sorry not sure what the songs were - it’s been a minute since we made this one
Nice footage bro, love the time lapses
Thanks 🙏🏼
Great video great camera footage
Thank you for the support!
@@theanglerslogbook your so welcome
I think fiordland, and stewart island would not agree lol
What an awesome country we live in where we can debate such great fisheries! Looking forward to testing out the cod fishing in those spots in the coming years - they’re 2 spots I haven’t fished yet 🤙🏼
@@theanglerslogbook bucket list, you are right
Cod you are only allowed two due to over fishing on one side other side is closed to cod part of year same reason
You’re spot on! We kept six between the three of us fishing. It’s great to see the fishery is as good as when we used to fish here 15 years ago before the reduced catch limit.
You obviously haven't been further south.
I dont know, i reckon stewart island ones are better
Durvil Island is bloody long way short of the best blue cod fishing in NZ!
It's some of the worst in the South Island.
🤣 it can’t be that bad when you’re watching 10-15 large cod fighting over your bait as soon as it drops to 3 metres in 5 metres of water, and we had multiple instances this day where we had 2 cod on one hook. We’ve fished for cod all around the South Island over the last couple of decades, and it’s definitely in the top 3 locations if isn’t the best.
Spot on. It wouldn’t rate in the top 50 places in the SI. I fish it dozens of times a year.
BS it's a great spot
@@samrix2734 maybe you need to travel a bit.
