Ya too bad it took felonious assaults to get there. But I bet you he only gets a few years.

    Mental note:
    Never use the phrase,
"My grandfather was in me!" while attempting to reduce my bond requirements.

Love Judge Simpson.....you have to be a real lousy human being to contest his fairness, goodwill, and approach to both life and being a jurist. The prosecutor is ok but still too lenient, this person is truly troubled, needs to be committed.

He should have helped counsel keep defendant under control imo

Judge Simpson has to be the most decent, chill, and humorous judge I've ever seen.

I just realized that the differential conviction rates between public defenders and private counsel may have less to do with skill and resources and more due to having clients like this that are not only guilty but hellbent on proving it

I'd imagine this happens more frequently with a public defender also because it's free for the dam criminals. Unfortunately the victims pay the price heavily with any crimes. Once its committed its all about the criminals rights etc. Makes me sick

You can try to lead a horse to water, but... Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I see a psych eval in this defendant's future, but I imagine he'll pass.
Prosecutor was very good in this clip. Warned the defendant and made clear and concise arguments.

Great argument from Prosecutor Hughes!!! Watching all the other day's defendants just being blown away by how ignorant and disgusting this guy is made the outcome even sweeter.

Considering his prior history, and the severity of the poor woman's injuries, he should not be released for any amount of bond. In some cases (Like this one) I think there is no excuse and no defense for this type of behavior.

I worked in the system for 30 years. This is a clear example of how the judicial system fails to even recognize mental illness. I would have given the defendant similar advice but I also would be trying to make it INCREDIBLY clear that he is unfit to understand the proceeding. Then I'd file a written motion.
