Very true, not on VHS or Beta tapes like some later stuff, also not degraded as much as some earlier stuff. They must have had some pretty good lenses though because the concert is pretty dark, yet it's not overly grainy!
Check out his darker stories with the devil. The deal ;) He was given that talent from something out of this world. He was very open about it. Goes back to Robert Johnson.
At face value backing instruments like the guitar sound simple, but getting it this tight and making it groove so hard is just unreal. You can tell these guys practiced performing together so hard. Unreal talent! Also, not sure if it’s a myth or true, but I heard James would fine his backing musicians if they weren’t tight enough. In some videos, you can see him flash a number of fingers to the back line. This was apparently the amount in $ that would be deducted from their wages that week. He does it in multiple videos, which makes me think it’s probably true given that he had a reputation for being a hard taskmaster
If mj really followed him, he wouldn't fuckin lip sync 90 percent of the times and mj was not a bandleader whatsoever but I agree with Prince. He learned from James,Jimmy, sly etc and took it to the next level!
+lenny boy That's Bobby Bird. He discovered James in jail and brought him in his gospel group (later calling themselves the famous flames). He also did a lot of writing of James' biggest hits, though he never got credit for it. They parted ways in the 70s, and there was some bad blood between them. I think they pitched it up later in life though.
Yeah i found that out after i wrote that comment lol my bad! This must have been around the time that Bobby left James, cause he wasn't giving Bobby the credit he deserved and they didn't get along because of that.
The way James Brown came out and did that thing with the split and the microphone was absolutely jaw-dropping! Haven't seen an intro by a recording artist that can touch what Mr. Brown did in this intro to this day....
When he drops to a split, catches the mic stand on his shoulder and bounces back up in time to sing the next part. Only James Brown could do that. R.I.P Godfather of Soul you definitely left your mark in this world.
2:20 Yeah he stopped the mic falling with his back, grabbed it with his right, swung it to his left then swung it back his right all in seemingly one motion
Nick Merrick 97% sure it's from When We Were Kings, which I've not had any luck finding the soundtrack for in digital format. Great set from the Spinners in that one, too.
You know, I’m a metal singer. But THIS. IS. AWESOME. So, don’t make barriers. Don’t put ahead the prejudice. James Brown is one of the greatest of all time.
Video editing for the 70s and a band so in tune with the singer. And his stage presence coming in pulling those busts moves. As somebody said payed thr blueprint for Prince . MJ and others What a legend
I wish I was there that night in Zaire... so many great artists and performances!!! All genres of music and culture. This was for the Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman fight. Truly rumble in the jungle.
Zaire was coolest place to be in Africa in the mid 1970’s. Around that time Rumble in the Jungle took place there, Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman 👍🏾✊🏾✊🏾
The introduction, the entrance, the fashion, the musical arrangement. Pure genius. I have watched this over a hundred times and every single time I’m speechless. Imagine being in that crowd and seeing this wonder of a man perform. Thank you James Brown. I’m 34 and I’m so grateful I get to listen and dance to your music. Absolutely marvellous!

James Brown showing us what it means to be The Hardest Working Man in Show Business. He took performance to a whole new level. I saw him on stage in his later years, and even then, his energy and his command of the audience were through the roof. And don't forget the band, who were always the finest and unbelievably tight. He was a force of nature.
The greatest entrance in the history of music.

@@jamesjonhnson3731 the comment I was looking for!!
The quality of this video is unbelievable for it being filmed in the 70s.
Original film still preserved, and not locked in a vault behind bureaucracy and legal issues.
It was filmed on 35mm, that's why.
The same as a lot of The Beatles footage was in the 60's.
Very true, not on VHS or Beta tapes like some later stuff, also not degraded as much as some earlier stuff. They must have had some pretty good lenses though because the concert is pretty dark, yet it's not overly grainy!
Sound quality is amazing
i’m pretty sure it got remastered or something. if not than yes, it’s very good camera quality.
James Brown was a glitch in the matrix.
