I'm glad you were able to point out the hurt on Glinda's face. I've seen so many people say she was happy to set the statue on fire and I'm always like... no no no, babygirl was struggling. lol.
He knows the story. He literally talks about how much he loves the play in the intro and how many times he’s seen it. He knows how Glinda is feeling in that moment
@ Yea, I was following. I was just saying i’m glad he made it a point to point it out because so many other people miss it when watching the movie. I didn’t mean him though.
@@Hey_Jamie I don't think you have to know the story tbf. I gotta give it to Ariana you can certainly see her feeling conflicted during the song. If I didn't know she felt sad over the death, I would have at least thought she seemed apprehensive about how they were celebrating her death. She looked disturbed when they brought out the tribute to burn.
@@Hey_Jamie Having never seen the stage show, and knowing very little about it, I immediately picked up how much she was struggling during No One Mourns the Wicked.
@@Hey_Jamie but it’s definitely the emotion on her face you can’t get that from a play up close and you can see her face when she’s looking away and she’s sad and then when she interacts with people that’s when she smiles it’s so obvious

One of the most amazing things about the movie is I know they added around an hour's worth of content but it didn't feel like it. I was worried it would feel bloated and overly stretched out but it just felt natural

That Ozdust dance scene with Glinda and Elphaba will always make me cry. It’s such a tender and beautiful moment between the girls that changed their relationship. As someone who hasn’t seen the broadway musical, this has to be one of my favorite films I saw in 2024.💚💗 thank you so much for watching! I love your reactions!🧹🫧
And Cynthia wasn’t supposed to cry initially Jon said in one of the rehearsals she started crying during the scene because she was so emotional about it and they never thought it’d happen again and when they actually went to film it for real she cried and Ariana saying it’s okay was not in the script
I'm glad the first thing you commented on is the acting. These are two talented actresses and singers, who have been obsessed with WICKED like all the other fans and have dug very deeply into these characters emotionally for two decades as fans. There are entire character arcs on their faces in a single shot-reverse-shot. It's very rare that we get this level of layered acting in film musicals.
51:51 That was Cynthia’s idea. She’s said in interviews that she looked up words in other languages that had to do with birds to come out with a longer and more impressive spell.
I noticed the "uncanny" lyric change after the birth scene, too - and I think the reason is because the original lyric is more judgmental, but in the movie they wanted Dulcibear to be more clearly on Elphaba's side from the start. Great reaction and discussion! :)
I have been obsessed with wicked since seeing it for the first time in the theater and have since watched everything I possibly could to deep dive even more into it. This is by far the best reaction video I’ve watched so far. YOU GET IT.

You had the best reaction and insight. You caught all the easter eggs and picked up on the most important nuances that most reactors miss. Love that. Wicked is a masterpiece and as an avid movie-goer, I do not say that lightly. Also, one thing many people may not know, someone on tiktok caught it but when she’s casting the spell to give the monkeys wings…. the words she’s saying…. I thought it was gibberish. It’s not! All the words translate (in different languages) to wing or flight 😱 such a small detail but idk why I love that so much. Saw an interview later where Cynthia said she didn’t want to chant random words so they rewrote the spell 👏
30:29 That's because talking animals is a regular thing in Oz. Not green skin. Besides, you already know that even they have trouble gaining acceptance if you listen to the Something Bad song.
OH MY GOODNESS! I have watched dozens of reactions (and loved them all) and I've seen the movie countless times now since it's been released for streaming. But... You are the first creator that pointed out the tapping/clicking of the "ruby slippers" in Popular and the reference to The Wizard of Oz... MY. MIND. IS BLOWN!!!! 😳🤯 And I think you are 100% correct about that!!!
Chu and Schwarz explained some of the lyric changes. The two that you pointed out: it's Dulcibear who gets the line in the movie, and because she's Animal and the only one who cares for Elpheba (something that is also added to the movie) they felt "atrocious" was too strong of a word. "Uncanny" is much softer. The change at the end from "get her" to "kill her" is that on the stage Elpheba still feel somewhat within reach, it's plausible at some point they will "get" her. In the movie, she's flying really high, and extremely fast so simply "getting" her feels out of scope. Killing her from a distance is reasonable, so that's why they changed that lyric.
Wonderful reaction. I was in tears along with you. Re the subtle clues to "future" characters... you mentioned boq leaning, and Fiyero thinking. I noticed another after Elphaba spurns Fiyero's offer of a ride ... she says "Get stuffed".
Also, in the library, Fiyero stands, arms stretched and one leg crossed over the other, watching Galinda coax Boq to ask Nessa out between the two pillars. He resembles a scarecrow.
I've watched quite a few Wicked reactions, and you're the first one I've seen who commented on the musical motif from 'For Good' during Elphie and Glinda's dance at the Ozdust. That always gets me in the feels as well.
This was SUCH a good reaction. You made me feel like I was watching it for the first time. You're also the only reactor I've seen who picked up on so many of the musical references and Wizard of Oz Easter eggs.
I've watched a lot of reaction videos to Wicked, and this might be one of the best. Most people NEVER pick up on the subtle hints that John M. Chu put into the film. The hanky Glinda puts under Boq's vest close to his heart. Or why Fiyero doesn't pass out like the others when the poppies fly. Well done!
Omg I loved your reaction. I've watched several reaction videos and many didn't know what Wicked was about, or even what The Wizard of Oz was about. I loved your insight into The Wizard of Oz easter eggs and your commentary comparing the musical to the movie. The fact that you know the musical so well highlighted how amazingly well done the movie was and how even experts are pleasantly surprised at some added elements. So glad I watched your reaction. I’ve watched about a dozen so far and yours is my favorite by far. Your love for the source material and your attention to detail. Chef’s kiss.
Something just dawned on me when you mentioned that Glinda is solely responsible for Elphaba’s iconic look. She made her popular (at least in the audience’s eye) and such a beloved character.
This is the only reaction video I have watched more than once. I love how you know all of the source material. And your experience with theater and music is so satisfying. And the fact that you have seen the musical so many times. This is so very on point.
To answer your question about hopping around on heels, if you’re used to wearing them (dancing and such) it’s not that difficult to hop around in them. And Cynthia was given a chunkier heel, which makes it much more stable. I used to to musical theater, as well as just wear heels thru college, so I was pretty comfortable in them until I developed some problems due to the lack of arch support.
If it wasn't noted before (I apologize because I haven't been able to get through the whole vid *yet*), Kristen C. made it known that the higher Glinda sings, the more dishonest she's being. Knowing that and rewatching the movie pput another level of understanding for songs like No One Mourns the Wicked and such.
16:22 i’d say my biggest concern would probably be how most high heeled shoes don’t have much traction on bottom so i’d worry hopping back and forth from slippery rocks like that i’d fall on my ass 😂
I’ve never seen anyone explain anything the way that you just did this story. I can see that you’re a writer. I have to give you an automatic subscription.
that was my exact reaction after the movie finished... I cried my eyes out the whole Defying Gravity, and then I need to remain seated for two minutes paralised to process all that I just saw... the Oz Dust scene, I never cried so hard in my life... and Cynthia... OH MY GOD... how is this woman an human being? her power in acting and singing is not from this world... Ariana also was great... the other actors too... the costumes, the sets, the direction... THIS MOVIE IS A MASTERPIECE
Hi, highest of heel wearers here. So Elphaba is not wearing high heels... those are more chunky mid-heeled boots. And it totally depends on the person. I could hop across dry rocks in 4in stilettos without much issue... but for others that could be a one way ticket to a stream bath.
I sat in my seat in the theatre for 10 minutes weeping… and I was not alone.I was blown away by the orchestrations, the acting, the authenticity, the costumes, the sets, the chorus- which was integral not accessory to the music being so powerful. The moment at Ozfest ball …powerful,I wept as well and when Glinda puts the pink flower behind Elpheba’s ear and says, why Elpheba you are beautiful…took my breath away. I am addicted to the soundtrack,to reactions and we all need the message inherent …that good will conquer evil, that we all need and deserve love and respect and that you cannot judge a book by its cover.
Theatre kid, Bookworm, Music lover, and Film Buff here.... Thank you for your thorough reaction, it was quite lovely and insightful. Catching all the easter eggs is so fun! I saw this 7 times in theaters. Huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked. I've seen Wicked on the stage 4 times and have read the book. I have all the albums too. I agree with you that this is one of the best stage to screen adaptation EVER. They took their time and it was well worth the wait. They were able to communicate those emotions. It definitely does pay the best homage to The Wizard of Oz (1939), not just in story but also film production on this scale. I read an article that Judy Garland's daughters attended the premiere as well and highly approved of it. Anyway i could go on forever! Thank you for a wonderful reaction.
Jeff does know a lot of close up magic. He actually did more for that scene but it got cut. If you look close when it cuts to the three of them after the coin trick Elphaba is holding a piece of rope, instead of a coin, from a rope trick that was cut.
I love that you noticed the interpretations of the original soundtracks interspersed into the scenes, like "What Is This Feeling?" during the hat exchange. I just noticed on a rewatch that the rephrase for Thank Goodness ("couldn't be happier") plays as Glinda gets on the train to the Emerald City... as if that decision to join Elphaba sealed her fate as well.
I have seen so many reviews for this movie. And by far, you have one of the best reactions. You have found a new subscriber in me. I pray that all is well.❤
My fave detail about that (on top of the single camera shot following him) was that they had to do it within 4 takes max bc the stunt/dancer person could only do it 4 times without risking injury 😂 just amazing!!
Finally someone who knows what he's talking about!!! What a thrill. I saw hundreds of reactions and by far this is the best. Congratulations!!! Kisses from Argentina!!! 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷

From what I heard, all the ensemble singers were former cast members of Wicked onstage. Oh, and Jeff Goldblum DOES do close-up magic and that's why they put it in the movie.
I remember when the part of popular when Glinda clicked the red heels 3 times and threw them into Elphaba’s hands I turned to my friend and said “looks like the wicked witch finally got the ruby slippers” haha
Thanks for your insights. I was worried when I heard the movie project announced that we could get another abomination like "Into the Woods" that managed to take the heart and humor from musical. When I heard John Chu was directing and that he cast Cynthia Erivo, I was relieved. I'm old so I didnt know Ariana Grande's music well. It's so interesting that so many reactors don't realize that songs in musicals are not entertaining distractions but reveal the emotional lives of the characters and move the plot. I think that we as a country have lost the ability to pay deep attention. The success of this movie brings me some hope. I don't know if you've seen the movie, Tick Tick Boom, but if you haven't, I think it was written for young creative guys like you in mind.
I've seen it at least 7x already (twice in theater and now on "streaming" 😉) and I cry my eyes out every time. Wicked is my favorite book>musical adaptation and now >movie! Spoilers: I would love to see what Stephen Schwartz can do with Son of a Witch, because Liir needs some stage time too! I bet that boy can sing and dance since his parents are Elphaba and Fiyero 😂they got the moves! Also, did y'all know "Winkie" is actually a slur in Oz. Fiyero is from a country called Vinkus, and he is married already before he even meets Galinda and Elphaba. The musical took a lot of liberties with the story, and the book is so much darker. I love both versions though! Elphaba is a lot more emotional in the musical, and in the book she is more reserved and cold which I think was my only gripe with Gregory Maguire's characterization of her.
When you said the huge Wizard face scared you i was forecefully reminded of the first time I saw the show. They come in to the audience chamber and the huge face with glowing eyes and smoke coming out of it's mouth booms "Be not afraid!" and then I hear this 5 year old kid behind me go "but i aaaaam 😭" they were not back for act 2 🥺😅
It’s what I saw too! Glad you’re another person I’ve come across who also noticed JB playing Fieryo really good, with his movements cause they were very fluid like the Scarecrow! The mains did an incredible job at bringing the characters to life.
I'm glad you remarked on the musical Easter eggs. But I still haven't heard anyone acknowledge that the tune playing by the balloon delivering Elphaba's letter is "Wonderful" from act 2.
It’s always funny to me when people watch a fantasy storyline and still use our real world as reference. 1.) Discrimination in Oz: Talking Animals - common. Green skin - uncommon. 2.) Fiyero looking “older”: Are we sure that universities in Oz work like they do on Earth?
Why do all the theater kids apologize in their reactions for trying to not sing. I'm over here like SING! SING! 😂😂 I am obsessed with this movie lol. Also, I have watched no less than 50 wicked reactions on YT since it came out and I think yours has been, hands down, my absolute favorite. This is my first time coming across your channel and instant follow. I had the exact same reaction to this movie and have no one in my life to talk about it with 😢
Amazed - I’m GenX musical nerd and in HS was a Sondheim / William Finn freak. I was also a reader and Wizard of Oz fan so when Wicked (the book) came out in 95 I devoured it and when I heard it was going to be a musical I was all in. I was also a Rent head and so excited but have to admit the cast recording kind of bored me. I was underwhelmed by the simplified story and what I deemed a safe paint by numbers show. Years later I took my friend’s daughter to the touring show because she was obsessed and that helped me get over my shit a bit and enjoy it through her teen eyes but even the staging felt kind of lifeless to me. I’ve spent 20 years kind of terminally disappointed in this show I wanted to love. THAT SAID I didn’t rush to the theater for this but did stream it because of all the buzz and am amazed that this movie seems to have done what the stage show could not do emotionally (for me). So much so that I finally am humming the tunes and find myself watching reactions. Who would ever have thunk it?

The dance fiyero did on the table was actually the exact same dance the scarecrow does on the wizard of oz!
I appreciate your beautiful commentary! ❤
That's dance scene hit me like a ton of bricks too. In the theater I turned my eyes over to my friend and silent tears were going down his face.
Something just dawned on me when you mentioned that Glinda is solely responsible for Elphaba’s iconic look. She made her popular (at least in the audience’s eye) and such a beloved character.
The more I watch, the more I think Glinda burned it because she wanted to get rid of that hideous rendition of her friend.
Don't you mean hideodious?
i was about to say this! @@shinyy5184
One of the best reactions I've watched! It makes such a difference to have someone familiar with the source material ❤
Wow, what a nice guy! Smart and emotionally intelligent.. easy sub!
I’m not a theater kid, but I’m a woman who can attest that the chunkier the heel, the more stable the shoe.
I have seen so many Wicked movie reactions but yours moved me! I smiled with you, cried with you - and this is my 6th time watching it ❤
Thank you so much!! Welcome to the community🎹
Your reaction was Epic!
I could hop across dry rocks in 4in stilettos without much issue... but for others that could be a one way ticket to a stream bath.
you made me realize some things about the movie that I had never noticed before, the little details they put in it, ty so much! love ur reaction❤
53:53 the jump scare is one of my favorite parts of reaction videos.😂😂
If this is how much we are crying now…….damn. We’re gonna need Costco sized boxes of tissues in November!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Your donation will go to helping those displaced by the wildfires, humans and animals alike!
hey I’m Ryan I have a movie request Austin powers international man of mystery and if you can please wear ladies long leather gloves for the movie
Your reaction was so nuanced and insightful! I’d love to see more from you! Definitely subscribed!
I pray that all is well.❤
28:02 they actually did that in a single shot which is insane to me. No cut, just amazing choreography and cinematography!
Also Cynthia crying during the ball scene was not in the script that was her emotional reaction to the scene
This might be my fave Wicked reaction everrrr…. And I’ve already watched a lot!!!
One of my fav reactions. We loved to see you sharing all peoples here love for wicked and the movie, thank you so muchh, i had fun
At 28:00 that wasn't a cut, it was one shot, the guy actually did that, it's mentioned in the Director's Commentary.
I love your reactions and getting all the nuances.
I have watched almost 20 of these reactions. Yours is the most satisfying and enjoyable. Thank you so much.
✨THIS REACTION WAS SO PERFECT! 👠👠You laughed at the funny parts, you felt the emotions, you UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT 🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚
The shot in Dancing Through Life when the dancer jumps out of the tornado bookshelf wasn't a cut. Filmed all in one take!
I really like the inclusion of Chenoweth's wand not working as a nod to Galinda.
32:50 you understood so well what makes Cynthia’s acting so good.
It's different (and better) to watch someone who actually knows the musical reacting. Loved It 😊
Thanks for your insights.
I just...wept ...openly, steadily, for 3 hours seeing this in the theater for the first time
I've seen it at least 7x already (twice in theater and now on "streaming" 😉) and I cry my eyes out every time. Wicked is my favorite book>musical adaptation and now >movie!
Spoilers:
I would love to see what Stephen Schwartz can do with Son of a Witch, because Liir needs some stage time too!
This was definitely my favorite reaction to the movie
I love the look on Ariana's face when Galinda is first leading everyone out into the courtyard during What is This Feeling.
Great review! Thanks for your insights and unique point of view
Thank you so much, @JorgeAhdz! Your charity is much appreciated, and welcome to the artistic community 😊
It’s what I saw too! Glad you’re another person I’ve come across who also noticed JB playing Fieryo really good, with his movements cause they were very fluid like the Scarecrow! The mains did an incredible job at bringing the characters to life.
thank godness a reaction taht can see the entire essence of the movie by someone who can truly appreciate it so thank you so much
I'm glad you remarked on the musical Easter eggs. But I still haven't heard anyone acknowledge that the tune playing by the balloon delivering Elphaba's letter is "Wonderful" from act 2.
Give me my leg and I’m coming-are add libs by Arianna apparently. The poor witch is actually the kindest of Oz.I loved the message in this.😊
Bro… I’ve watched 30 reactions so far, and yours was the best one by far!!
I love the way you break down everything! Best reaction!
The movie part hasnt started yet and Im already loving ur reaction 🥰
I love the nod to the cowardly lion. so clever.
It’s always funny to me when people watch a fantasy storyline and still use our real world as reference.
1.) Discrimination in Oz: Talking Animals - common. Green skin - uncommon.
2.) Fiyero looking “older”: Are we sure that universities in Oz work like they do on Earth?
Great review!! Wicked was my fav musical of all time too.
I had the exact same reaction to this movie and have no one in my life to talk about it with 😢
Welcome to the artistic community on this channel, where artsy conversations are ALWAYS welcome 😊
@WriterReactsChannel thank you new friend! Can't wait to dive into your back catalog and see what you have covered already 😅
THAT SAID
I didn’t rush to the theater for this but did stream it because of all the buzz and am amazed that this movie seems to have done what the stage show could not do emotionally (for me).
So much so that I finally am humming the tunes and find myself watching reactions.
Who would ever have thunk it?
what a great reaction! love how u appreciated all the subtle artistic choices that they put in the movie like the camera work and the music and how it all added ti the story; the details that most people didnt/wouldnt notice! i love how u went into this with such thoughtfulness 💚🩷
