I love the way Skoda always seems to do far more with less, often outshining VW.
Unfortunately VW isn't a company that actually gives a damn about customers. They are just a means to an end.

The best thing about the Kamiq (apart from its price), is that it can be optioned up and still come with a manual transmission. Apart from the Mazda 3, it's starting to be impossible to find a manual car in 2020 that isn't a base model, sport-oriented or use for commercial use (like a dual cab ute).

After the Ford fiasco of what was the Focus Transmission problem, resulting in a massive class action, Ford could engineer and build ‘the car of the century’, I would never consider buying a Ford again. They will go down the same road as Holden in Australia, is my prediction. It would have already happened, if they didn’t have the Ford Ranger. It’s sad for the decent people working at the dealerships as it is the North American management that is the problem.

Skoda Kamiq, peugeot 2008,vw t cross,vw t roc these cars tick a lot boxes than puma does, those are incredible allrounders.you can't even comfortably sit in the rear seats of the puma, kamiq feels like it rivals kuga rather than puma and the way puma drives does not justify it's rear space or overall feeling inside the cabin. It is not a sports car nor an a segment, it does not drive as good as a hot hatch,it has a very niche position in the segment and no1 buys it here.

I think this car looks stunning. The Ford Puma looks shocking. Even my 19yo and 21yo children agree that the Puma is an ugly looking car. I used to be a big Ford fan, and have owned many Ford passenger cars, I'll never buy a Ford Puma. I'd buy a Skoda Kamiq any day. I'm just disappointed that a Kamiq 'Launch Edition' is priced the same as an outgoing VW Golf Highline, yet some of the Skoda parts are outdated - manual handbrake, additional cruise control stick, etc. My son's 2016 Golf Trendline had electric handbrake and cruise controls on the steering wheel, and VW still include cruise control on the steering wheel as well as virtual cockpits. For Skoda (VW) Australia to launch this new Kamiq in late 2020 with such old VW parts is not good enough. I also wish the top of the range 'Launch Edition' had higher profile tyres for ride comfort and leave the low profile tyres for the supposed to be sporty 'Monte Carlo' edition.

The smaller the car, the harder it is to package bulky features like a multi-link independent rear suspension - my understanding is that simply does not fit in the A0 platform rear end at all. Mechanical handbrake vs EPB not so much - I'm guessing that's a cost thing, so they can do a base Polo at $17K as they often do

@@chasingcars fair comment. Volvo certainly buck the trend though as do Lexus.

Hi Tom, please, respect the Czech nation, go again to to the backside of a car and read again the car brend name. Thank you. At the end you are a car journalist, at least you should know how to pronounce the name Skoda.

By “brend” name did you mean “brand” name? Looks like Tom isn’t the only one who makes the odd mistake 😜. PS - I’m guessing English isn’t your first language, and I don’t speak more than one, so I don’t mean this too harshly.

Is the turn signal stalk on the right? No! That is unforgivable .
If Toyota did the same in Europe (not put stalks on left) they wouldn't sell a car.... Why do Aussie car journos not even mention it? ...... But they go on about other small crap you only touch once in a blue moon.
Don't say "you get used to it".... because you could put the radio controls in the boot and say the same thing, it's an ergonomic shocker.

      You get used to it..
Fairly quickly. I have owned a large number of cars, the majority of which have the indicator on the hrs. But I currently drive 3 cars regularly, one with it on the hrs and two with it on the left. I have no real problem swapping between them. Only occasionally will I get it wrong if I haven't driven a car with it on the other side for some time.
I have also bought many cars for non enthusiast friends over the years and not one has complained about the stalk being on the other side from their previous car. "You soon get used to it" they say if asked.
So reviewers don't comment about it, probably because it isn't a problem to actual car buyers.

Ever actually driven one for some distance or owned one? I doubt.
As a car nut for over 40years and owned plenty of interesting cars, plus driven over 1.5m kms in all conditions plus raced, my two Skodas have been among the best for a variety of reasons. Some of my performance cars have been more exciting of course, and my sports bike is much faster and more thrilling, but for everday enjoyable and practical use my Skodas are hard to beat. That is why Skoda owners are among the most satisfied owners after several years of ownership, not just in Australia but many countries.
