As a JC120 owner and strat player, and also a Mesa Mark IV owner, I must say this is the greatest video I've ever seen on youtube. The JC120 is superior to all. Anyone who doesn't know that, just doesn't know yet.
It's also pretty awesome that they're floating in mid-air in front of that flowing purple satin. They just need some more hair and some leopard-print leotards. Watch this video again and picture them in leopard-print leotards.
Hidden in the right side of Johnny DeMarco's unbelievable hair is an awesome little wireless mic (a la Garth Brooks). Well done! Keepin' it professional at every corner.
Johnny DeMarco is really feeling the music inside Roland/BOSS products. Look at his facial expressions whenever he plays any product made from Roland/BOSS.
I love my JC-120. However, mine is an original from the 70's without the fx loop and the old school switches. I use mine solely for clean tones (with fx). Just to clarify, all of the distortion sounds they are getting are through pedals, and definitely not from the amp. When he says "turn on the distortion!" the distorted sound is that super weak slight gain boost overdrive (probably with the setting on 10), not the super saturated lead tone afterwards.
yeah, i meant the stereo return, which is part of the loop. By plugging your GT-8 in the l and r returns, you are utilizing the power section of the amp.
I've had the pleasure of working with Johnny DeMarco in the past - he is one of the nicest guys in the world, and a great guitarist. He's an extremely friendly and talented human. Insulting someone because you don't like their style is pretty ignorant. Look, I see the goofiness in the video's production, but don't get personal.
@Masterfighterx I have this amp and I love it to death. The cleans are amazing and with that metal zone you can get an amazing tone for any kind of music style. All I use is the metal zone. THATS IT. Its all I really need until I can get an Axe fx. As long as you find the tone you want from the amp you can use any pedal and have it sound amazing. Its loud as hell too!
@syzygywell i've realised they're so good at taking effects, after trying one out. adifferent sound to a tube amp but they let the voice of the pedal come through which is cool for distorted sound, so play what you like. this amp makes the case for solid states.
so true, i got a jc120 and i was sort of dissapointed because of the background noise.... and it accentuates when I set the vibrato on..... and there's a drop of volume when turning from clean - to chorus.....
@bosszeroboss That's Johnny DeMarco. A fantastic guitar player, but he's the eponymous 80's guy. You know... The guy who refuses to cut his hair and move on into the 21st century. For him, it will be 1985 forever. And yes... His facial expressions are everything I thought a colonoscopy would look like.
@gogg0 Yeah man, I said that long time ago, I was looking for that song, but I found nothing, did you find anything????, the compete song must be amaaaaaazing, I love that kind of atmospheres
@Masterfighterx There is no headphone possibility but you can run external cabs for the output on the back. The pedals can be run in front of the amp or through the effects loop in the back. I prefer to run in front just for preference. And btw, In my opinion this amp is great for metal because the clean tone can provide a great backing eq for the effects. There are better amps but for the money this gets the job done right.
Find a second hand one, they've been making them since the early 70's, it's pretty easy to get your hands on one. I have a JC160, the same as the 120, but it has 4x10" instead of the 2x12", they only had the 160s in production for one year (1976). I got mine off eBay for $500 AUS and it's fantastic!
I own a vintage Roland Jazz Chorus 120, bought in 1976, distributed out in Long Island. It is if you know how to get these sounds, so I will keep that a secret. It's not hard, if you know how to play and get the sound. That being said, thank you Roland Jazz Chorus
by internal speaker i mean the actual speakers. I asked just in case it was night time for you and you were playing through headphones to keep the noise down and therefor the Spring Reverb would not work anyway as it relies on the speakers to vibrate the springs :-)
Was this produced by Tim n Eric?
As a JC120 owner and strat player, and also a Mesa Mark IV owner, I must say this is the greatest video I've ever seen on youtube. The JC120 is superior to all. Anyone who doesn't know that, just doesn't know yet.
I love how that jazz session suddnely came like out of nowhere:p
DeMarco really feels the music. Just look at him enjoy every bit of his playing.
At least people can't complain that DeMarco has no feeling in his playing.
Never in my life have I ever heard a jc120 distort as much as it does at 5:48 when he hits the footswitch on
5:47...sorry, I don't know what they are pulling here, but that is NOT the distortion on the JC-120.
One of the best videos I've seen on RUclips ever.
Both guitarists are fantastic and so is the amp. btw...love the metal riffage at the intro!
IMO, the best solid state amp there is. Its been used by many of my absolute favourite players.
Uh...this amp is LEGENDARY!! It is used for all types of music and is in high demand among jazz to metal guitarists!
im so glad i randomly found this. i can't stop watching it man.
The single greatest review on youtube ever.
I dont know what was better, the background during the review.
Or ol' Johnny Demarco's facial expressions.
I thought this WAS the Tim and Eric Awesome Show.
...good job.
The JC 120 is simply the BEST transistor amp ever!!!
Yep, his main clean tone for 20 years. Still uses it live
You, my friend, have stumbled upon the genre of "demo music". Enjoy.
Its good to know that you can get a great sounding distortion with pedals through one of the cleanest amps there is.
It's also pretty awesome that they're floating in mid-air in front of that flowing purple satin. They just need some more hair and some leopard-print leotards. Watch this video again and picture them in leopard-print leotards.
almost pissed myself when he did the piano synthesiser haha:)
OMFG!!! the sweeps at 2:25...this man is GOD!
5:22
johnny de marco plays really well!
congratulations man!
from brazil!
Hidden in the right side of Johnny DeMarco's unbelievable hair is an awesome little wireless mic (a la Garth Brooks).

Is this a video for the JC-120 or BOSS?
So much for hearing some jazz on an archtop outta one of these...But then, I supposed you don't have to see that with these.
@Nimrod9458 Do not question products played by Blonde John Vince Petrucci Neil and Jim Angus Morrison Youngs.
That Johnny DeMarco guy makes me feel embarrassed.

this is an amp specialy maked for the clean channel , the perfect clean for effect and pedal board , rackmount and for play a beautiful clean chorused
Beautiful blues tone with the Strat before he hit the pedal.
johnny you still have an 80s perm
Ha, DeMarco looks like a dork, but he can play alright. I just love the way he pitches the stuff, he's so excited.
wow good sound good play
lol 1:55.. Johnny demarco has the moves to match his insanely cool image!
What the hell is going on at 4:36?
MAN.........I always thought of the JC120 as a JAZZ amp! I was pretty narrow minded,.
This thing cranks.
The Stratocaster of Johnny DeMarco has a Killer sound and its a very versatile guitar.
I like how every time i visit the Roland website, im greeted with the worst demo reviews ever. This demo is shit.
This Is one of the best reviews ever. They should do reviews with this kind of passion nowadays! LOL
Johnny's face while he plays
8V
wow these guys can play everything
could you imagine old grandpa checkin out a jazz amp on youtube and then shabow! metal!
Indeed it is. It's one of the coolest effects I've heard in a while. Feedback pedals are apparently very rare :(
I'm seeing that the jc120 can do it all...it's headroom to the max.
Agreed... I play strats through this amp. He definitely kicked on a distortion pedal and not the amp's distortion around 5:45.
hilarious video. That amp can do anything man. I like it!
freshly permed. i think these guys went to my high school
yeah, i meant the stereo return, which is part of the loop. By plugging your GT-8 in the l and r returns, you are utilizing the power section of the amp.
3:00 is a flanger/trembolo and 3:15 sounds like an harmonized note 2 octaves below
best demo ever!

I think these guys officially Wayne and Garth approved!
johnny demarco... is insane
Johnny DeMarco is so damn good.
goddamn Johnny DeMarco is sick!!
johnny really gets into his music :)
That's a part from a song called Faster. It's from a Cripple Need Cane album The Big Dance.
unless you want to get some nice breakup when you turn it up, go with the JC-120
Go play one, you'll be surprised. Nothing beats the JC-120's chorus. Yes I have one.
Metallica used this amp for their clean source on the black album.
i love johnny's face when he plays :D
@Masterfighterx I have this amp and I love it to death. The cleans are amazing and with that metal zone you can get an amazing tone for any kind of music style. All I use is the metal zone. THATS IT. Cleans are wicked
It's great for jazz too! =]
this is helarious
@syzygywell i've realised they're so good at taking effects, after trying one out. adifferent sound to a tube amp but they let the voice of the pedal come through which is cool for distorted sound, so play what you like. this amp makes the case for solid states.
It sounds really great for metal
that was the funniest whammy pullup ive ever heard at 2:32
this is sick!!!!
haha i almost peed my pants there are some hilarious guitar faces in there
this is the fucking greatest of all greatest things ever to ever exist ever
@RICKYSWANSON It's a commercial for various Roland products. Boss is Roland's brand for stompboxes.
so true, i got a jc120 and i was sort of dissapointed because of the background noise.... and it accentuates when I set the vibrato on..... and there's a drop of volume when turning from clean - to chorus.....
he's so over the top hilarious, but your right, the man can play a guitar.
An impressive effects demonstration. What about the amp?
@jorgepeterbarton Yeah actually it was the main amp used by Robert Smith early on in the cure. I had no idea....
That would be the Line 6 XT Live floor boards that you can see at the beginning of the video.
that roland gr-20 is cool!! :D
I wish they demo-ed more of the raw clean tone (with chorus), rather than just an arpeggio
Return is part of the loop.
The best Solidstate amp ever made. And the best Fender Rhodes amp ever made.
Lenaire's guitar is sick.
Johnny Demarco... More metal than you, and you even know.
@jerryteacup I hope, I love your Guitars.
@bosszeroboss

@gogg0

The jazz session around the 4th minute was so random :D
not a schecter, both white and cherry the right guy uses are discontinued :( Ibanez SZ series, amazing guitars. Great amp too!!!
hahaha i love this video!
yeah the cleans are great on this amp...
Between 3:25 and 3:49 is some pretty cool music.
Stereo MADNESS?????? THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
@Masterfighterx There is no headphone possibility but you can run external cabs for the output on the back. The pedals can be run in front of the amp or through the effects loop in the back. @Dinhuu2010 He's using a Roland gr-20 I believe. The new gr-55 will get those sounds plus so much more

Johnny is totally one of my favorite players, so much emotion into the songs, not to mention hes a master at playing pretty much every genre.
@ferretjka so fucking hilarious!!!! LOL
