I'll be honest Goshiwon isn't that bad. I've lived in such a room inside Korea. It's a good way to save money especially if you gon' be outside for work 5 days a week and then on weekends you just need a place to crash and browse the internet.

I live in Korea and it wasn't so bad in terms of restrictions. We were basically able to do everything we wanted in small groups. There are some business hour restrictions but that's about it. Ah gyms and saunas were closed for a few weeks
when you live in the same place for 10 years you get attached to it.

I used to live in a goshiwon in Korea too and they’re a bit small but they’re cozy! The neighbors are always really quiet and respectful, and we also have a little area where we leave stuff for each other
Man looks great but the big fat con for me is the absence of Windows!!! I don't know if im claustrophobic or what but no window is scary

I feel like I might do well in a living space like this (+a window). We have something similar here in Sweden (studentkorridor) but you need to be a student to be able to rent this type of room. As soon as your studies are over you have to move out. There are a few differences tho like all rooms have windows (I think it’s required by law) and it’s not as quiet 😂
That actually seems like a rather cozy way to live, I don't think I would mind it too much. Not a huge fan of the shared kitchen and bathrooms but some compromises have to be made for cheaper living I suppose. But honestly, as long as the place stays clean and meets health standards I think this is an absolutely great solution to people that are a bit lower on money. Not sure I'd wanna live there for years upon years, but it's definitely a good option if you've recently moved and need a cheaper place to stay, or if you're a student and can't afford a larger living space.
I'm an American truck driver and for a few years I lived in a truck which has about the same area to live in it. I really ended up feeling cozy in an area and if you can organize well you can fit a lot of stuff. What I had the hardest part dealing with was public restrooms as I had a bit of a phobia of those places. But over time I got over it. However many truck drivers actually share this same amount of space between them and a co driver.
I don't think it'll be easy to live in such a small space. There are no windows, so it won't be easy to ventilate the air. I hope you don't lose your health under any circumstances.

@@chanelrosas8420 In fact, I lived in 고시원 for about three months before the college entrance exam. Fortunately, there was a window, but it was 30,000 won more expensive. However, when I opened the window, I could see the fence next door, so the scenery was not good.
And if you're the kind of person who pees a lot - like me, can you imagine going out of your room and trudge towards the bathroom everytime. And did you see how small the hall is? It's like one way only

I used to live in a goshiwon in Seoul too for a year. The big cons for me were the dirty laundry machine(some tenants were very incosiderable and they put shoes in the machine), the noise (u can literally hear everything). I had a décent side Window and a private bathroom so I paid the double of this guy's rent. I would still recommend it for a short stay and to look for a good one u need to see them in person cuz the pics they have online are so deceiving haha

I had experienced living in such small space so I can tell you that the key of comfort to hide all the stuff in room and wisely organize the space. It is important to hide stuff to avoid littering your mind of seeing this things around. Thanks for the video. I'm in Korea again.

I lived in a goshiwon for 3 days or so and I couldn’t even take a step in my room because of my luggages, I enjoyed eating for free and all but I wouldn’t stay in my room, I would go out in cafes or to university and everything but I only slept in the goshiwon, couldn’t stand being in such a closed space

There are similar apartments like this in Tokyo but it’s pretty expensive since Tokyo is an extremely crowded place so you’ll be lucky enough to rent a nice apartment to live in

I totally understand and agreed with his mindset about space. All my life up until I owned my house, I preferred to be in my room. It’s more relax and comfy to be in my room honestly.
Also, if we really think about space time, we don’t use the bathroom, living room, kitchen or any common area 24/7. It is inconvenient when we are in rush time but besides that, it’s like lives with siblings LOL 😂

This looks like an easy renting place if u have just moved to Korea and are still getting your financial stuff done and finish sorting everything out and a good place to stay until u can afford a regular apartment.

I love small places with few stuff to live in (pretty tiny houses, well-organized tiny apartments), I never imagined if I could live in a place like a goshiwon, although it can be uncomfortable sometimes, I think it can be an interesting experience if one day I travel there, save money on hotels, and be able to enjoy that money in improving the trip... awww I like the idea! (the only thing I don't like is having to share the bathroom with too many strangers lol)

Honestly my room is this size albeit just one of many in an apartment unit. I would definitely stay here, its like 1/4 of the rent I pay right now and hell I wouldn't need to go out and buy rice anymore lmao.

I'd try to live there (if it has an air conditioner). It's good bec i like enclosed space and i'm very much a minimalist. It's like being enclosed and alone without living in isolation completely.
The only big fat no for me with the goshiwon is no windows. I have to be reminded of living life outdoors haha other than that I would totally live on one!
I've lived in smaller places. As long as you can sleep, eat, and use the Internet, that's enough to live in for decades.
I love how positive and respectful he is and as someone who’s never been to Korea I wouldn’t mind considering staying in a goshiwon but I would add a window and a bathroom though rent in Korea can be very expensive I think for the price this is amazing and it’s great for those who want to save money.
230 usd is 12k php here in Philippines. You could rent a full 2 story house for that money.

Whoa. Its the same size where I lived when I was in college. We paid 8,000 pesos (195,276.05 KW) per month but the water & electricity bill was already included - and I do have aircon in there too - scheduled to open only at nightime. Internet connection bill was not included.

Not having a window or private bathroom would be a dealbreaker for me, but I think I could do okay in a slightly larger goshiwon with a window that opens for fresh air and my own bathroom if I had to.

In the city a HOUSE costs 500-700 dollars
wow a whole house for 700 dollars/month is „cheap“. in my village you get ~70m2 for that. houses cost 600.000€ now. we have 1.700 people living in my village (austria). everything is getting very expensive. if you are not inheriting from your family it‘s almost impossible to buy a house.

I have had experience living in these, if you have good neighbors it can be a great place to live (I lived with a chef so we had amazing meals every few weeks). However, if you live with assholes, the experience is the total opposite, In the last place I lived, someone kept spilling milk and refused to clean it which stunk the kitchen out, and I had to leave because of it.

Goshiwon looks like a common student housing in many Australian universities.
It doesn't seem that bad but if I lived in a goshiwon, I'd make sure to at least have a window in the room. It's not worth saving an extra $43 by not having it included in my opinion.

IMO, I think it depends on the person who lives in. No matter how small your room is as long as you're organized and clean, it will become livable. what's the use of having a messy huge room, you know waatam sayin?

I'm not in Korea, but the room that I rent in an apartment for $400 is the same length (door to opposite wall) but about 60% wider and has windows. It's the smallest room in the apartment, and in a normal home, this would be considered a small study room. I can afford to rent the entire apartment for $2500, but whatever for? I don't need the space. I guess I enjoyed maximising my small living space in the dormitories when I was in university. I've always been quite frugal, so living in a small space never bothered me at all. My small room is the equivalent of a living room, dining room and bedroom all packed into one. Suitable only for singles.
Maybe people don't make enough to rent bigger spaces but it's great that there are actually affordable goshiwons in Korea.
