  • Charlotte Mensah is an award-winning hairstylist who spends her days cutting and styling the hair of young black women and girls. But she fears that as many young black girls are wearing wigs and weaves, that hair care techniques for black hair will soon be lost. So she's taking action by passing her knowledge and skills down to the next generation.

    Cant wait this Corona virus is done so I can visit the salon! I desperately need a trim ...but white people cannot deal with my hair and majority of black salons around here are not suitable either😪😪😪 Miss Mensah was highly recommended...

    I wear wigs because I am a travel nurse and I dont like people that I am not familiar with in my hair. I dont like her position on why some choose wigs. Its not always because we dont like our hair!

      She's specifically talking about young people though. Adults wearing wigs vs teenagers and young adults is different

    I think people forget that wigs are also worn to protect the hair. I'm not going natural 24/7 as it can be damaging to my hair.

    • @rankingtrevor
      @rankingtrevor 4 года назад +27

      Protect LOL.🤣🤣 No other race protects their hair with another races hair over their head. "Protection" is an excuse. Wigs, weaves, chemical treatments are done by black females because of self hate and trying to fit in with asian/euro hair types...

    • @ns6095
      @ns6095 4 года назад +10

      rankingtrevor that's not true. Furthermore, not all wigs are made of other people's hair. I wouldn't comment on things you obviously don't know anything about. If you're going to give your opinion at least make sure you understand what you're talking about and don't generalize.

      @@rankingtrevor I 100% agree. Many of us black women have fully adopted and normalize wearing wigs/ weaves furthest from our natural hair type. Most of us are intellectual dishonest when it comes to this topic. Especially when the questioning or justification of wearing/ using them.

      @@puppyprincess2822 Appreciate the honesty! As a black British Male who has dealt with many BW who wear weave it's not only a turn off and physically damaging but mentally detrimental due to how normalised and pervasive it is, especially among young girls who feel like they cannot survive without it . Back in the 80s and before, fake hair was rare, now u can barely date a BW that's natural, and I truly believe that's when BW are most stunning. Imagine a situation where 80% of Chinese/Japanese ppl where having surgery to alter their unique eye shape at adolescence, that is how disturbing the massive global trend of BW hiding their natural hair is with euro/Asian hair. And this behaviour is not deemed "cultural appropriation", yet other races braiding their NATURAL hair is??🤣🤣 testiment to an inferiority complex and an issue that needs to be addressed. Most blk men dont like their women wearing weaves so that excuse also cannot be used.

      @@rankingtrevor Im from the states and I've gotten dragged online from my fellow black women for sharing my opinions on wigs/ weaves. At the same time, I 100% relate and understand where they're coming from.
      Not to ramble too much or share my whole life story, I big chopped my hair about (almost but not quite) 2 years ago. It literally changed my life. It was a game changer. Many black women, like myself, hair get straighten, permed, manipulated very young. My mom was the biggest hated. Prior to my big chop, I NEVER worn my hair naturally. My mom kept it straighten, in weaves, and within adult hood, I just threw on a wig.
      Now, I honestly feel sick seeing BW wear wigs/ weaves that aren't their natural type. I can't believe I, and many others are brainwashed into finding it acceptable.
      Omfg YES!! I got dragged online just yesterday cause BW were calling out a WW over blonde and straight hair. Black Women were claiming that we can have naturally blonde hair. Which is true, buts it's extremely rare (minus biracial and albinos) within us blacks. Yet, we want to call out appropriate for braids. It doesn't work that way.

    Um, people wear wigs because either you're to busy, want a certain style or color, but don't have the length and don't wanna damage your hair, to protect their hair, or because they just like wigs and want to wear them....what she said is stupid

      They are bad! Among BW they are a manifestation of self hate and proliferate low self esteem of BW, most of whom are ashamed to bare their natural hair in public.
