Carlee Russell UPDATE - She has since admitted through her attorney that she was not kidnapped, she did not see a baby on the side of the road, and she did not have contact or help from anyone while she was "missing." She apologized through her attorney - to the community, police, her family, and all those that helped in the search for her.

As a black woman, and as someone who lives 5 minutes away from where she “disappeared,” I am grateful that you covered this case. It has left my city disgusted with her and her family. It is sickening to know that she faked this and has contributed to making things hard for girls and women who are actually missing! Unfortunately police don't take full action in most cases here in Alabama. A few days prior to this case a baby "went missing" when actually the car just rolled into some trees and plants. Had the police searching for a few hours. Police here are also completely hands full with shootings down in downtown Bham. It's awful down here and even though hoover is supposed to be "safer", night is still a place for people to shoot others. Hopefully the police take future cases serious, but it gets difficult with constant fake calls.

I don't believe they deserve jail time I believe they should be forced to have therapy and they should serve community service. The community service should be in a situation where they either serve at a battered women's shelter or for a homeless shelter so they can realize how good their life was. We were supposed to be married in 2020, but covid hit, then we had a fire which burned my partner 30% of his body (full thickness) and we lost absolutely everything.
We lost everything but our lives, and that is all that matters.
I lost my mum when I was 17 and lost everything but as I said we are alive.

I would not wish that on my worst enemy. Not to mention the aftercare, daily wrapping and painfully unwrapping the bandages. All I wanted to do was write to other burn victims and let them know that they’re not alone and it hurts so bad you wanna die but your skin grows back and your appearance is not a issue because you’ll be back to normal in no time. Only burn victims can understand the pain and suffering. And the trauma from candles or open flames or whatever it was that burned you. Just keep ointment on the bandages and your new skin will grow back even better than before. ❤❤❤

As a black woman i appreciate how this was presented. We need to do more for women of every color who go missing or unfortunately get murdered. I hope her actions are not a deterrent from that. Thank you for always being so kind and understanding to not only the victims but also the perpetrators in your videos. I am someone who has been through a lot and can often empathize with people who do bad things. I have never been a criminal but I can see how some people’s circumstances can lead them down a dark and unfortunate path because I could have easily been one of those people. I have a great support system in my mother so she keeps me grounded in reality but some people don’t have that and you never judge people’s actions too harshly which I appreciate because I truly love everyone. Most people are born good but life does sometimes to take that goodness away and you acknowledge that.

This is so scary because I was actually in this situation a few years ago. I walked to my brother's elementary school to pick him up, and on our way back home, there was one boy the same age as my brother (ome of the students) and he was looking lost. It was also raining heavily at this point and I asked him if he was lost. He said he just moved to the area with his family and he was using google maps to go home but his phone was wet in the rain and he couldnt use it anymore. I asked the boy the name of his apartment and he told and luckily it was just around the corner from my home. So i walked him to his home and tjen me and my brother went home. I got in so much trouble with my mom for doing this because I lived in a place where trafficking happened alot, but as an adult, I cant leave a child in the rain when he says hes lost. So thank god this was an actual situation but if It wasnt then Id defenetly fall for this trap.

He was only lk 5 houses away from his house and his sister ended up grabbing him not even a minute later. It’s crazy because I swear I have like zero motherly instinct lol. I was just doing what I think anyone would do but I was so scared after this happened. Even though nothing happened, it made me think twice before ever doing that again. You shouldn’t have to regret helping a child in need…

Should it ever happen again, do what was done in this video (even though it turned out to be fake): call 911 and keep the child in your sight but do not approach unless instructed to by the dispatcher. When it comes to a missing child, police will be there quick.

I live in the area, this case had me absolutely freaked out (at first) but then the day after finding out about it, I started realizing she was full of crap. Also aniah blanchards mother (whom I am friends with) helped look for carlee. Aniah was kidnapped and murdered in 2019 from a neighboring area to carlee and her family. The fact that she helped and went through all that trauma again all for a girl who was never missing...it hurts. I am close to aniahs case for a very personal reason and her mother contacted me in 2019 during the 2nd week she was missing and she is an AMAZING woman. Such a strong woman. I've been watching this case unfold in real time because it's in my area and got even more on top of it when I realized it was a hoax. Carlee deserves to be prosecuted. Hoover PD will NOT let this go. Can promise you that. Hoover PD does not play around with stuff like this, and they know she is lying...They're just trying to give her a chance to at least TRY to explain herself and her actions. She isn't going to cooperate though... this is much bigger than carlee now... she has dug herself into quick sand and she isn't getting out. I think she needs to be made an example of. People like this need to be held accountable for the damage their actions cause.

She wants notoriety? She’ll have notoriety for the rest of her life in the form of humiliation. Bravo!

The amount of work that goes into your videos is phenomenal, and it really shows. You're the best true crime channel I've stumbled upon, and quite frankly, also the inspiration for me to start a true crime channel. Not only that, but you make us all feel for the victims, with the empathy in your voice. Great work, keep it up!

I lived about 1 & 1/2 hours from where this happened, and I moved across the country a few months ago, but let me tell you- this case got BLOWN UP. Everyone was posting her moms FB post telling us too look for her. Snap stories, Instagram, FB, literally everyone was talking about this. I swear it was the only thing I saw for those couple of days.
