  • LAKE FOREST, CALIFORNIA - Units from CAL FIRE and Angeles National Forestry called in some water dropping helicopters as well as a few hand crews to help stop a line of fire that was quickly spreading towards homes in the Portola Parkway area near Alton Parkway. Precisional drops mitigated the fires spread and crews are working non stop to help protect the public's homes.

Having now been through the third fire in the Foothill Ranch area, it's clear that there was great coordination between all of the agencies involved. And the equipment used was impressive, from the planes dropping retardant right on the margins of the homes to the larger helicopters that were available to provide 3,000 gallons of water right on a target.

Wth? What was that substance??? Within one minute the flames begin roiling up with a noxious black cloud? Grass fires do not suddenly smoke black like that!

I wonder, too! Also, have on my picks with this vid, is a picture of multiple car crash in la Mirada (Ca) which shows black smoke coming from the collision, which we would expect to see due to fuel/gas involvement. I'm going to pay more attention to these films.

Indeed it does! Brush like chemise and chapparal burn just as you see. I know these canyons and the fuel well.
In the shot, I see some nice dozer line in the foreground. Spots with this heavy brush are a real pickle. If there was time to clear that region, for example in a prescribed burn, we'd dig out that pocket near the edge of the line.
An other option is to fire that area out from the outer (upper) edge. A descending fire widens the break more slowly, working down into that fuel.
A fire coming up from below heats the concentrated fuel, and it burns en masse, with the heavy smoke as you see here.

this is what the LORD says, cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depend on flesh for his strength and whose HEART turns away from the LORD, he will be like a Bush in the wastelands, but blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, he does not fear when Heat comes, it has no worries in the year of Drought. This is awful. Not this one in particular, but the fact that It feels like you cant go a minute without multiple parts of california being on fire, threatening and destroying thousands of acres of land, animals, people and property. I feel like we are focusing so much on the wrong things, though the election is important, and we should be trying to locate and move in as many fire, forestry, national guard troops that can be trained, etc to help take care of these fires quickly and safely, before things get horribly out of hand. I live jn the hot ass desert, we havent been out of a drought in the 30 years ive lived here, and I am terrified of fires, and it scares me that an area that gets so much better temps, more rainfall and snow, etc than our tinderbox of a desert does, can just go up in flames and be decimated so easily. To alot of us here, the areas from the paradise fire look like "forest".....the only green anything here is human planted and cared for. If you go up north , we have beautiful scenery and forests and sedona, flagstaff, but still very little rainfall. I pray for everyone in Cali and here as well.
