  • Both the Pixscan mat and the Print and cut feature are used to cut images in Silhouette Studio - but which one is better?? That honestly depends on a lot of variables, so let's walk through the pros and cons together.
I'm making custom hoodies to wear during the total eclipse! This was the perfect project to showcase both methods.
Print and cut's biggest downfall, in my opinion, is the size restriction. The registration marks take up a lot of space on the printed page. The Pixscan mat eliminates this restriction by placing the registration marks on the actual mat, freeing up all of the print area on your paper.
The Pixscan mat, however, adds a few extra steps and quite a bit of time to the project. You want to decide before you start your project which method is going to give you the best overall results.
    In this video, I used
    Gildan sweatshirts - amzn.to/43QZjyo
    Heat Transfer Paper - amzn.to/3xA7jrx
"Old Dusty" (my well-loved heat press) - amzn.to/4cXHAd4
    Epson Ecotank - amzn.to/4aohZZ3
    Cameo 5 - amzn.to/3J6Bucm

It’s always fantastic to see how you use the pixiscan mat step by step, that is so helpful and encourages me to get it out and use it, great video and the hoodies look fantastic 😀

So Im wondering, I like the idea of pixscan as it had more cutting area, do you need to do the long set up everytime or is it set up once then easy cuts thereafter ? TYI

You will only need to connect your scanner or calibrate your phone once, but the rest of the process does take a bit of time. It gets to be routine after awhile, though.

I’ve always wondered what that was for.

I like to use it with my small scraps of vinyl to get my cuts lined up just right, too.

Thanks for the head to head. Good info. Not a fan of the background music. Sorry 😢

I knew I'd get some backlash for it, but I thought it was funny, so I left it in. Honestly, I giggled at it the whole time I was editing. 😅 It won't be a consistent thing.
