My mom loved to hear her sing. I remember we search for this song by Ms Doris Sykes for a long time & we finally found her on a cassette tape. I wish my mom was still alive to view this video on RUclips. Just thought about her and pulled it right up on RUclips. Bring back sweet memories of my mom. What a blessing! Nothing like the name of Jesus!🙌🏽❤️
I love the spirited traditional gospel music that created the atmosphere for genuine praise and worship that brought in the holy spirit! The soloist and the pianist were exceptional as well as the other musicians.🙏
Her name is Elsa Harris...well-known in Chicago and overseas. She was a member of the Jessy Dixon Singers, Thompson Community Singers, and was also with Paul Simon. She played for various churches over the years, too.
I am blessed to have heard the voice of Doris Sykes. I was blessed also to lead this song with our choir at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, East ST. Louis, ILL Her legacy lives on.
i have so much respect for this singing gospel legend. Doris Sykes is one of a kind with an exceptional anointing. I remember the days when she along with Maceo and The choir would come to Detroit and kill us.

Feeling a special kind of way today. One year ago this week one if my favorite organist, no wait my favorite organist was called from labor to reward. Brother Robert Lamont Jones was a child prodigy that began playing the organ at the age of three my ear. Even though he tied to learn to read music, he could never quite get it. He would take music lessons, but once he heard the song once he could not only play it, but he could transform it. Lamont played for numerous choirs/groups in the DMV area. The name of Jesus was one of his favorite songs.
Ms. Sykes was a pro...she was teasing at that high "1" the whole time just to see because she wanted it bad...She was after that note like it had stole something from her!!! But she wasn't gon' throw that lasso after it until she knew it was in range. A pro. And the chase was AWESOME!!!
this is my first time hearing this anointed lady. She is just awesome. I don't remember any talk of her. can anyone tell me what choir she sang with. Lord she's awesome.
Doris Sykes was a long-time member of the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church (Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir), which is still pastored by Rev. Maceo Woods. She can be heard singing lead on just about every album the choir recorded. "The Name of Jesus" was her signature song.

Hi Rowoches, I'm performing a dance in a showcase in a few months and I know you have a VAST music collection. Do you know of any songs that are good at encompassing African American struggles, or a song about hope or faith or anything? Please let me know!!!
+Horace Griffin: Yes, the two are related. They're sister-in-laws. In this video, Doris Sykes is singing as a part of a tribute she was a part of. She's a member of Christian Tabernacle, where Rev. Maceo Woods is the pastor.

Hi Rowoches,
I'm performing a dance in a showcase in a few months and I know you have a VAST music collection. Do you know of any songs that are good at encompassing African American struggles, or a song about hope or faith or anything? Please let me know!!!
Good evening! I can think of a few songs. If you can, please send me an inbox message and we can definitely discuss it further. :-)
Check your inbox!
Thanks for the heads up. RUclips sent me a notification that I had a message. I will reply shortly.
How is she doing now?
Who are you referring to?
Whose the person that give doris the mic?
That's her sister-in-law, the late Delores "Honey" Sykes
I wonder who the 2 haters are...
Is this lady family to Dolores Honey Sykes.
Yes. They are sisters-in-law
did Doris married to Dolores brother or visa verse
Vice versa
Thank You, for the information.God bless you and your family
Is Delores "Honey" Sykes related to Doris Sykes? Since they both are powerful singers at Monumental, I suspect that they are relatives.
+Horace Griffin: Yes, the two are related. They're sister-in-laws. In this video, Doris Sykes is singing as a part of a tribute she was a part of. She's a member of Christian Tabernacle, where Rev. Maceo Woods is the pastor.
