It's honestly very difficult to tell who is a citizen or not just because of the diversity of people and ways they come. You can't obviously use race or ethnicity, because that means nothing for America. You can't rely on accent either because they could have been born in the US (making them a citizen) and then lived a significant part of their lives in another country. You can't use historical or in depth knowledge because a lot of Americans don't know that too. In fact, in my experience, if someone has a lot of in depth knowledge about American history and laws, it's likely they're not American yet but are trying to be. My strat would have been to just say yes to all. You'll at least get some.
