Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news of Diana's passing. The world's heart seemed to stop beating for a moment. We all say, "There will never be another like her."...and sadly it's true. An earth angel filled with kindness and humanity...oh how she is missed...
I wasn't born yet!
I was, and honestly the whole world mourned. It was heart wrenching.
I was working and a coworker who I really didn’t like came back from his lunch break and told me (it was lunch time in Australia). I thought he was lying and just being awful as usual until the news came on the radio. Was so sad watching the news that night and then the funeral. Those boys walking behind her broke my heart.
My Mom died in December 1996...8 months prior to Diana. I was only 30 when I lost my Mom and thought I was pretty young to losing my Mom. Then when I heard about Diana's death, my heart went out to William and Harry losing their Mother at half my age at the time. Diana would have been such a wonderful Grandmother and would have such fun with the 5 of them!
I was 7 and I remember seeing it on the news all the way in Nairobi Kenya. But I came to understand her story much later as an adult and it still moved me.
Marble would have probably been a better medium. . . To match her elegance and innocence ❤️❤️❤️

I really like this statue - much more than I expected to! It's lovely and dignified, not sentimentalized or flashy, the way I thought it might be. They chose to depict her humanity, work and outstretched arms. Great choice. Seeing her sons unveil it was very touching.

A great artist captures a person and their essence but this is as if the sculptor never even really looked at her .
The unveiling of the statue of princess Diana was very nice and thoughtful of her son's to think of their mother and celebrate her 60th birthday. Hope things will be on the mend and to clear the air now and in the future. Best of luck to them and their families. A good milestone.

It made me cry too. I was thinking art is so subjective, you will never please everyone. I feel it captures her essence and warmth. She will always be in our hearts. Having her arms around her sons would have been ideal.
This was a great tribute but honestly the statue does not do her justice. Yes, she was the most kindhearted, humble, sweetest person but unfortunately the face of the statue looks very manly. I’m sorry I expected something more elaborate. This is somewhat disappointing in my opinion.

Seeing this beautiful statue of Princess Diana with two children being unveiled by her two sons, Prince William and his brother Harry is such a wonderful thing to watch, it has made me really happy to know that after all of these years, Princess Diana is forever there for everyone to go and see, it will help her to be remembered in the years to come and her memory will be told for generations. It is great to see the statue being unveiled by her two sons together despite their differences. Watching this, this morning has made me very happy, l knew that a statue was being made but l didn't realise it was being unveiled yesterday. What a lovely surprise. R.l.P Princess Diana, (England's Rose) l loved Princess Diana and l always will.
Diana had such a pure heart & she'll always be remembered for giving back to communities. It's so sad her life was cut short at such a young age. I always wonder what she would be doing now. Plus, she missed out on meeting her grand babies & see William & Harry grow up.

If you watch the whole 23 minutes or so there's an ocean between them in terms of space, with them separately walking the sort of receiving line and William can barely look at Harry. Every time they were briefly together (usually because Harry pushed into visual range of the camera) someone quickly stepped in to make the conversation general. William must still be incandescent with rage, and justifiably so, imo.
They are brothers in a difficult situation with eyes of world on them as per. Stop adding your dried up coochy fuel to your own incandescent rage. It won't burn any brighter. Just show you up for who and what you are. Hate monger.

@@vashaist Thanks Irina. I have googled Bernini, wonderful sculptures but alas marble is no longer used (far too expensive) and we don't have any Bernini's nowadays do we? The Alice in Wonderland sculpture is the nearest we have to great sculpture I should imagine. Will the Diana sculpture stand the test of time?
