  • The Supreme Court has struck down the use of affirmative action in college admissions.The Roberts Court, which would not look like the court it is today without affirmative action, decided in a pair of rulings that race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina violate equal protection under the Constitution. Young people close to this decision, and thought leader Michael Eric Dyson, join Joy Reid to discuss.

      If you understood that his education, and rise to power was facilitated by Affirmative Action, a reality that he refutes in his arrogance, and denial…you would see the hypocrisy of his ruling! His hypocrisy is comparable to burning a bridge that was built for people like him, only to have him burn the bridge after he got across! Thomas whole success story was predicated by the goal of Affirmative Action to create a more diverse society and work place, while stemming the historically discriminatory practice of denying blacks admission to elite colleges (qualified or not), as well as positions of power and influence! Since his acceptance as one of only a few black’s admitted under Affirmative Action to Holy Cross, his former college, and on to Yale Law School, also the result of Affirmative Action…Thomas has harbored resentment, and denial of the fact that he was the beneficiary of Affirmative Action! That, coupled with his traumatic childhood in which he unwittingly associates to those closest to him, including his grandfather, as opposed to recognizing the underlying factors that came with his childhood experience. Ultimately Clarence Thomas was the token black at every stage of his success, and it reflects in his misguided attempt’s to shed that reality in the form of self hatred, and hypocritical stances on Laws that he benefited from!

      Sustaining massive endowments and brand prestige are the reasons ivy league schools are so powerful and will continue to be for future generations. And speaking of brand, Justice Thomas, for instance, experienced severe cognitive dissonance after he graduated from Yale Law School. According to various sources, Thomas was very insecure about how people viewed his abilities and his credibility. He believed people didn't take him seriously because he got into a prestigious schools because of affirmative action...which he did. Even after obtaining an ivy league law degree, he couldn't find work. He blamed the color of his skin and the fact that people didn't take him seriously. Oddly, he used to be liberal. He used to care about the rights of African Americans. But that all vanished because of his rotten self-image and insecurity. So, as a coping mechanism to his cognitive dissonance, he decided to abandon his black rights crusade and replace it with black hatred and black denialism crusade. Again, all because Thomas didn't want to associate himself with a program, affirmative action, that quite literally gave him everything, every opportunity in his lifetime. Why? Because he didn't like how white elitist viewed his credibility. Deep down, beneath the superficial arrogance and defiance, Thomas hates himself.

Voting for the House of Representatives allows the possible impeachment of some of the supreme court judges such as those who claimed Roe was an established persistence and would not be overturned during their Senate confirmation and then voted to overturn Roe. I am no scholar like MED, but as one who was raised in a blended multi-racial family, I recognize malignant Black self-hatred when I see it. CT is an internally conflicted individual and I saw this in him long ago. I also saw it in a mixed race family member who spent their entire lives hating and running away from their Blackness, and doing everything they could to try to emphasize their perceived differences from other Black people. They thought they were better, although we were taught that we were all equal, no matter our race. It’s so sad that racism in society causes the type of self-hatred that destroys people from the inside out and causes them to hurt others. I watched the movie “Imitation of Life” on a classic movie station this weekend. It shows this Black self-hatred and how it destroys lives and relationships.

    Hate, fear, ignorance and hopelessness, these are always the tools that those with power use to separate us, to turn us into weak and isolated individuals, who will not challenge their ability to gain more wealth and power over us. People of color are being used as one of the first victims, so that, as the majority sees things getting worse, they can take solace in the fact that someone else is suffering more. It leads to a society that becomes stagnant, as people are allotted their place in a hierarchy and learn to live with it. They will seek to make everyone know their place, their spot in the pyramid. Women must make more babies, blacks need to work harder stop complaining about it, the poor are being punished by god for their sins. Pay appropriate respect to the leader or face the wrath of his army of collaborators. What you are allowed to do all depends on your rank, the color of your party card, and the latest whim of the great leader.
    It's an old story, but now it's really beginning to happen (again) and in the U.S. Who will save us. We have lectured the world, told them that we have figured it all out, if you copy our model you will succeed as well. China has shown that capitalism doesn't need democracy, Russia has shown that elections can be fully controlled, while many other countries have adopted, in their own unique ways, the old U.S. model of seeking to privatize everything, so that companies, resources and armies are monopolized by crime syndicates, mafias and tribal elites. Will anyone help us? For many we are just too big a problem. Many others believe we deserve it. Much like the Russian living far from Moscow, in a poor town. What did he do to bring about the war with Ukraine? Yet, we are right to hold them at least partly responsible, especially if he continues to have a portrait of Putin in his living room. So, it is with the U.S. We have caused a lot of misery in our past. Genocide of the indigenous people, slavery, coups all over Latin America, supporting South Africa, attacking Vietnam, Iraq,... Unlike the Russians, maybe many of us have learned that these were mistakes. But, unlike the Germans after WWII, we have not yet come to terms with our past, we may have stopped colonizing, but we have ignored our past rather than learning from it. The U.S. is a very important country, and it is going through growth pains. We are like troubled adolescents. We need to start learning from our mistakes, from our history, to become a happy, successful, responsible country, one which could be truly seen as a model world citizen. We have such potential. Will we get our act together?

Clarence Thomas is a pristine example of such a person who is already dead inside. Even Joy Reid knows not to question the system as much and as deeply as Chris Hedges does. I will agree with that. I am interracial. I was a raised within white vs black. As someone who looks Native American, I was invisible. Too light, not dark enough. In the end, I did get a Filipino American Scholarship because I was an A student. But none of the aid that aided Black People were offered. I grew up in a very black vs white racist town. But being neither, I was beaten up by first black gangs of boys in kindergarten. Because we lived in the Dark side of town. When we moved. I was beaten up by white hands of boys. That was second grade. The SCOTUS could have cleaned up issues that existed but instead, they have given racism a legal standing. That is not Constitutional. My Mayflower Pilgrim, Colonial English, Scots Irish and Cherokee ancestors created a government that may not have been equal but was aimed to become more equal. Even then, though Black People were slaves, they were counted. Native Americans were not counted, When they took young Native Americans to Europe to show them in zoo like strings, they were like pets. Native Americans from Noth to South have either been forced to slavery, forced to work with and for or murdered en masse by genocide. Being an invisible race in our own Native Continents is the Original sin. When we cannot even count our ancestors, we will be er be treated fair. Yes, I am Scots Irish Trail of Tears Cherokee, Ilocano, English, French and Swedish. But being darker than what is considered white, being obviously Native American, Black People need,ysr keep reaching out to us all. All those immigrants from the Native Americans all have the same Colonial Slave/Genocide ancestry. My Quaker and Mayflower ancestors are rolling in their graves. Whites are ridiculously under represented in Ivy leagues, Between legacy admissions and Jewish nepotism and affirmative action working/middle class whites who are by far the majority of America's most capable students are completely shut out from elite institutions. How can people think that affirmative action is not racist

    • @johnmcguire1734
      @johnmcguire1734 Год назад

      You can tell that you have no idea how the admissions process works. Affirmative action was not meant for giving some unqualified an admission. It was meant to level the playing field by making sure that the admissions process was fair and had representation of minorities . All the students who make are qualified. It basically took the human bias and guess work out of the decisions . The reason it was created in the first place was because of systemic racism that saw disproportionate representation of minorities some of which had far better grades and still weren’t able to get into the higher learning institutions of their choosing. If you think that people will not be biased after this ruling you are living in a dream land .

    I agree wholeheartedly with Professor Dyson. We can't work on the roof when we have neglected the foundation. Almost everything in this country that effects us is directly related to how we vote, or unfortunately, how we fail to vote. Donald Trump, in a thousand different ways, should never have been elected President. Nonetheless, the failure of so many people to vote was the reason he was elected. Their failure to vote will now effect them for the next 30 years.

      Who do you think has been running the public schools in our inner cities? Liberal Democrats - and you have been voting them in for over 50 years, to diminishing results year over year. They are the one who are failing our children. Society has allowed a generation of functional illiterates to pass through our school systems and this ruling is getting every one up in arms? The problem is not the percentage of African-Americans admitted into Harvard, the problem is that 23 schools in Baltimore report that NONE of their student are proficient at grade level math. At one Baltimore high school, 77% tested at elementary school level, some at kindergarten level. That is just one city of many. Where is the uproar over this? Who's fighting for these children?
