    I’ve had a Platinum card for well over 30 years, and I treat it like insurance. 25 yrs ago my wife was in Vegas with her sister when she was hospitalized with a seizure. Her sis frantically called me at 2 AM at home in California, and in desperation I called Platinum card services. They told to just get to the airport and they’d make all the arrangements. By the time I got there I had a flight, a hotel and car in Vegas, the assurance that if my wife needed a different hospital they would move her, and to call them when I got there so they could follow my progress. THAT is why I will always have an AmEx Platinum card.

    As a person who works at the hotel, I can tell that Centurion holders are always guaranteed to get a room in participating hotels (most of the major chains), no matter if hotel is fully booker or even overbooked. Also, you will get free upgrade whenever you check-in.
    Basically, if you have last minute travel without any reservations in advance, you can travel with peace of mind that you are GUARANTEED to have a room to stay and even upgrade.

People look at you differently when you ask "do you accept American express" (I have to ask at a lot of places I'm unfamiliar with as most small businesses don't for the reason they charge more). I think my favorite thing about the card isn't the rewards or the status of it, but now that I have the thing, it pre approves me for most of their other cards, platinum included. The high limit is great for large business expenses I can't put on my small discover card, and they have a really solid rewards program.

      @jayrose6312 2 года назад +2

      Exactly! There’s no better card for day-to-day spending than the Gold and none better for travel than the Platinum! The rewards can get a bit tricky, so you must read everything as you may miss the $120 Uber credit or the separate $120 dining credit; and then there’s the Premium Rental Vehicle Protection that will save you a ton on insurance, especially when renting for days or even weeks at a time as it’s a flat fee (the I believe the premium level here in NJ is $24.95, for up to 42 days)! When you figure in up to 4% back for groceries and dining, and all the other amazing features such as FedEx Next Day card replacement pretty much anywhere internationally if ever lost or stolen, it’s well worth the hefty fee - provided that you actually use it and take advantage of the offers! Sure, if you don’t travel much, the Platinum is likely an overkill, but damn near everybody could take advantage of the Gold! As I don’t travel a lot, the Gold is my card of choice, but I keep an AMEX Delta SkyMiles Gold Card to rack up miles for when I will eventually need them as they don’t expire! Well worth it!

    I got the Platinum card as my first American Express card and at first I wasn’t sure if that was the right choice; but after 6 months of ownership, I have absolutely no complaints/regrets. I have been traveling a bit this year so I’m glad I got to put the card to use such as going to a Centurion Lounge in CLT, it was really nice and had free food and beverages (that were actually good). I don’t even have to mention the 24/7 customer service. Safe to say I’m here to stay.

    The American Express platinum card is basically you've proven to them that your fiscal responsibility is so beyond reproach that AE can basically give you a monthly blank check. The difference with that and the Centurion card is just a silly status thing as the additional benefits are slight and the cost is far higher to hold it.

    I have the platinum card and have for years. To me it's more than worth it! One example is that it covers insurance on rental cars internationally (where my US car insurance is not valid). Last year I was on a film shoot in a foreign country and needed to rent several 4x4 trucks. The county in question was undergoing some civic issues and was in a state of open conflict with the government. The insurance costs alone would have been north of eight grand, I paid zero. That card saved me over 8000 last year alone. If you are a person who travels for business this card is fantastic and the perks make it worth every penny. I also get $20 per month credit on my cell phone bill that is billed to the card and another $20 monthly credit for streaming services (Netflix) so that right there is $40/month or $480 savings per year that I would otherwise be spending. Club access in airports, savings on events, hilton and marriot gold access, it's a long list of perks.

If I had the time, I would actually explain the higher fees they would charge businesses to accept them. Customers would still not be happy because it didn't affect them. In the end, UK consumers just accept they are not accepted in most shops here. It just doesn't have the prestige over here, mainly because it has the word 'American' in it. That's Visa changed their name.

    I disagree with this video. The reason why AMEX is so successful is because of the customer service. Filing a dispute is the easiest ever. They do not question you. In a way they believe you, their customer, over the businesses that you used your card. If you claim you were scammed, VISA/Mastercard/banks might get back to you in a week. For AMEX the dispute is handled within 24 hours. This is very important to me when I make $500+ businesses expenditures and sometimes the orders are not made correctly.

For those who haven't read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, basically a guy who travels the galaxy to write the intergalactic equivalent of Wikipedia carries an American Express card with him. He does this because one of the rules of the galaxy is if a HitchHiker tries to legitimately attempt to pay for something like a meal and the form of exchange is not valid they'll take the HitchHiker up on good faith. The expense is worth it if you regularly use your card - especially if you use it regularly for daily services; travel, airlines, and other high-end services; and/or for high-end purchases. Their member benefits are unmatched by any of the other credit card companies, and you get a ton of perks and opportunities to recoup costs and get discounts, including special rates, special access, free replacement/coverage of damaged goods, and more. Also, I've never been irritated from interaction with their customer service reps - which is something I cannot say about the other credit card companies I use. They are very professional.
    Anyway, totally worth it and easily my favorite card.

At one of our newsstands near Mountain Brook (Birmingham suburb that's the wealthiest city in Alabama), the owner of the company often came in for coffee in the morning, making sure to use his black Amex. Great video!
    While waiting on hold for 6 hrs with my bank when they locked my VISA card, I filled out an AMEX form. Got approved in a minute and up to this day, I haven’t had a single issue. On the contrary, I want to stay with them for the rest of my life. Customer service actually treat you like a person and help you out very quickly! Meanwhile other banks just treat you like an annoyance, are needlessly rude, disrespect your time with ridiculously long queues, ask the same info over and over, are locked via phone only, it’s a mess. But AMEX? Oh no, Amex even has CHAT and they have 24/7 service. When I was filling out my phone wallet, AMEX gave me the code in a minute. I’m still waiting for my bank to give me one-it’s been a month. Unbeatable service that can be recommended without a second thought. So happy to see other people have had this same experience.

      Basically the tl;dr story is that Costco Amex cardholders made up about 20-25% of total Amex cardholders. Amex lost a quarter of its customers to Citigroup in a few months. They recovered from this by taking Citigroup’s half of Hilton’s cardholders to become the sole card issuer of Hilton, and they started to push their Delta cards more to the point where Delta Amex cardholders make up 20% of the total Amex portfolio.

      Roberto Bonano It’s more market share than anything else. Citi gave Costco more benefits than Amex did, and they have suffered via lower profit margins for it.
